Didn’t Microsoft start the no used games, assigned to your console only, check in 24/7 and DRM fiasco which caused a massive backlash?

Actually, it was Sony that introduced the online pass to limit the used games market during the PS3 era, even though lots of people seems to conveniently have forgotten this.

The page for buying them is even still online...

They had the same controller with a black backside.
I guess it makes sense seeing how the XSS is white and a lot of casual gamers will certainly get additional controllers for that one.

And only idiots call other people idiots just because they value their own opinion.
Oh, and they lose discussions by default.

this is hypocrite at best.
developer know people support them if sales stay good between games.they don't care which plastic box and which theylogo you play them on
so why did it matter ? some loyalty to what ?
be honest with yourself for god sake....

I am. And I don't need people like you who can't even read, are unwilling to understand a thing I'm writing and have to act like they could look into my soul to tell me anything.
My point stands. When your sales were great since the PS1 era, taking your game away from the PS community would be a dick move, while bringing it to even more platforms would be the best course.

If this is true the salt in this forum will be legendary. Bethesda, ID Software, Tango Gameworks, Arkane & more on Monday & then Sega and all their studios & IP's on Wesnesday. PS fanboys will be put suicide watch. Stay safe guys, it's only games!

That being said I think this rumor is bs. I can't see 2 huge acquisitions back to back like that. The tech world doesn't really work like that. But hey, what do I know.

Question: Do we know who that guy is? Tried finding his name or the video this came from, but couldn't find it.

My thoughts on why the controller isn't connected to anything Sega related:
- It's not the Sega logo blue. Neither Sonic's blue.
- The German Twitter account posted the same tweeted and didn't put any hint to Sonic in there.

It's definitely a bullshit rumor but I hope they consider and make it real at some point because it's so much fun to watch the chaos unfold. lol

So how would this work exactly? MS buys Sega for like 3 billion and then infuses another couple billion into the company spread amongst developers to start bringing back beloved franchises from the dead? Virtua Fighter/Golden Axe/Burning Rangers/Daytona/Panzer Dragoon/Jet Set Radio/Phantasy Star/Skies of Arcadia/Etc?

They could probably start by digging the Saturn and DC catalog and making them available online thorugh gamepass or selling them stand alone.

Well, while as I already stated before, I don't think this will happen, there were already rumours of MS acquiring a japanese studio.

This would be insane.

MS and Sega, for whatever reason, have been buddy buddy going back to the original Xbox.
The original Xbox was basically a Dreamcast 2 with many of its DC titles seeing continuations there. Not to mention the timeless Panzer Dragoon Orta.
Then for the 360 - MS scooped up obscure, but legendary, titles like Radiant Silvergun and Virtual On Oratorio Tangram - which are still playable on the XB1.

Basically someone high up in Microsoft has been a big Sega fan for a long time.

after yesterday all gamer count suddenly !
the monopoly / anti consumer fud some of you are pushing could credible with a different post history.

i can give you 3 more realistic reasons :
  • pit's PR and they are talking about the competition
  • they can't do it
  • they need higher profit margin from this activity
Since you have so much time, go check my previous posts on buying exclusives.

Bye

SMT or Persona exclusive of Xbox?

Reasons to get a Xbox in Japan.
Nope. They will just shrug and buy something else.
I didn't work with Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean 4.
Not gonna work especially Xbox is doing MUCH worse than the 360 days in Japan.

Fat Frog

I advertised for Google Stadia
When Phil Spencer visited Sega back then, I highly doubt he was just interested by a temporary deal for PSO New Genesis and Yakuza 7.

My bet is that he saw 5 or 10 projects at Sega and said: Cool, i want them all, how much ?
It could be a new Sakura, Yakuza, Monkey Ball, Re Fantasy, Skies of Arcadia... anything but i highly doubt he came for 2 titles, it was just the starters.

I would die and go to heaven... i used to have a huge dreamcast game collection and loaned it to a friend when i moved out of state temporarily. Came back like a year later and he admitted he sold it all to make a truck payment. :(

Some people have the dumbest reasons to dislike the deal. I mean not thought out arguments but literally wish studios would die because they dont share the same love of sony? Seriously?

Did anyone here write "If that deal is true, all of Sega's studios shall die"?
Honest question, because I didn't read anything like that.

This is NOT happening (yet). If they will be acquired it wouldn't be announced at TGS because the fact they would be teasing this on twitter would scream unprofessionalism and a headache for stockholders.

And if this does happen further down the line, that's a coffin for Sony. Sega has played a tremendous role on PlayStation platforms and has that identity. That would be such a huge lose for Sony I don't think they could do anything realistically that would make up for this. Thus, Sony must've not allow this to happen.

In fact, Sony themselves should probably purchase sega as japanese people would at least respect it, they don't respect companies like microsoft xbox.

But I fear that whenever Sony sticks there nose now will be met with a bidding war that they clearly can't win. So either way, Sony is fucked.

They need to get at least Kojima and Bluepoint. Publishers are honestly out of the question. The end is nigh

I think they'd have a good chance with From Software and Capcom, maybe even Bandai Namco.

It's all about trying to strong arm the industry into MS vision of a subscription gaming future....

No choice is consumer friendly now. Once they buy a few more companies they think everyone will HAVE TO get on board.

Your whole argument is built on the False premise that MS is trying to take ownership away with subscription services.

The opposite is true.
Every game available on Game Pass is available for full retail purchase and you even get a discount if you buy it digitally.

For now.
When that option goes away, guess what? The prices go up!

Exactly. I think Sega's IP's are more interesting than Bethesda's to be honest.

I think it was EA, they wanted extra for Online service and wanted to block used games sales. I think everyone else like UbiSoft, SONY... etc rolled with it.

I don't see how buying SEGA would help them, sonic games don't sell like they use to.....

No, but I'd like someone to do something with Sega's older IP's. I mean, Sega is ignoring them, so maybe new ownership that's not so worried about money would encourage them to take some risks again.

We've seen this rumor before, and I have no expectation of it being true. I'm just saying, I'd like to see those franchises come back from the dead someday.

Plays with kids toys, in the adult gaming world
The people acting like 4chan didn't leak the Wii U and countless other things

The people acting like SEGA is some two bit company and doesn't have a GOLDMINE of IP that outsold the fucking Super Nintendo at one point

The people acting like XBOX having ATLUS, SONIC, Virtua Fighter etc. wouldn't be a big deal right now

The amount of forced downplaying in this thread is insane

SEGA not being a major force in the industry has always really felt wrong I quit console gaming for 5 years after the dreamcast failed

Microsoft needs SEGA and SEGA needs Microsoft this should have happened 19 years ago with the Sega Chihiro being based off the Original XBOX this is like the most obvious thing that NEEDS to happen since forever I really hope this is true console gaming is in a huge rut right now this would make things really interesting again

That's a strange comment. You're saying two things here:

1. That nothing Microsoft will ever do in Japan will be good enough. That's stupid. If they bought Nintendo tomorrow, people would still keep buying Nintendo products. It's not impossible for Microsoft to get into the Japanese market, but it's not easy when your biggest sellers are Halo and Gears of War.
2. That Persona available on mobile phones for cheaper than on console would be a failure because they wouldn't buy into the service.

As opposed to releasing it on the biggest console ever - big consoles being something Japanese consumers have repeatedly avoided - at nearly 40 times the price. ($499+70/$15)

Microsoft needs Asian games to break into the Asian market, but they also need a model that appeals to Asian gamers. That's a two-pronged problem that Xcloud is already solving in places like Korea, and Persona and other Sega titles would go far towards that too.

Not that this is happening. I just think you're wrong with what you're saying.

I think rather than opening new doors, any purchase by Microsoft of a Japanese game company would just exacerbate the decline of the J-game industry in Japan. I guess this doesn't matter to the average America Joe with his Gamepass subscription. but the repercussions would be felt here beyond a few titles becoming exclusive.
