Sony cant even do basic cloud saves? What an embarrassment.
No Spider-Man:MM you can transfer saves from the PS4 version to PS5 so I don't know what the problem is.It's weird those save games can't transfer. Is this for all games?
Ooof, crazy how the turn tables here on GAF in the past 2 weeks.

Doesn't this game release after the next gen consoles? Not a big issue then is it.
When did Xbox get:Why are people shocked at stuff like this from Sony. They’re laughably behind MS in software and services. We finally got name changes in 2019 because PSN is shit.

Now you know why Sony has shut their mouths about BC.
Because if they go into details, more people will chime in asking about BC save states. Dirt is an example of no cross gen saves. Yakuza is another one. It took a random dude on Twitter to get that info about it.
Expect more to come.
It's in the OP.
Releases on Series X launch day, and late 2020 for PS5.
You can play the PS4 version on your PS5, but it'll obviously not be optimised and you won't be able to transfer your save to the PS5 version if/when that materialises.
It's a pretty big deal, especially as it's the third game unable transfer crossgen saves on PS, and could be a big headache down the line if say...Cyberpunk 2077 saves don't transfer, or FF7R.
But some games allow transfer of saves. So clearly the devs have this option.
Fuck. Nobody would have ever guessed save states would generations too. They do believe in generations. That’s why they don’t want you to play on the old console. It’s all becoming true now.
When did Xbox get:
- suspend / resume
- remote play
- cloud gaming
- Twitch streaming
?
Probably loads of other things Sony did first, those are just the ones off the top of my head.
There must be some weird shit going on between PS4/PS5 OS, architecture or something making it a pain. On the other hand Xbox and PC can do cross gen saves across different hardware and OS.First party games, from what I've seen, so far?
It's definitely unusual.
What's up with saves not transferring?! This isn't the first game. Yakuza too.

XO and PS4 both had suspend resume at launch, not sure how that's a win?
Is having cloud gaming first to be applauded over having a much better approach?
Signing twitch to an exclusive deal is nice, but it isn't really a sony first thing.
Our friend Panjev claims smart delivery is just a marketing term. Sony can do the same thing.
Well, what his view on this?

Nice. They actually DO believe in generations.
Thanks, Sony!

My gut tells me this is due to somehow PlayStation save game data is written and the differences between PS4 and PS5 games. I does not seem like the PS5 has a built in feature to transfer the saves. However, I am assuming that Xbox does, because it does not seem like any game does not support cross gen saves. In the grand scheme of things, it only affects cross-gen games for the next year or so, but it is an annoyance for those with a PS4 and PS5.
The cross save issue is likely just a developer issue, i.e. who is putting in work to support it and who is not. It might be easier to do on the MS side depending on API/SDK design. It should be completely doable in theory on PS5 unless there is some kind of wall between PS4 and PS5 data on the Sony "cloud" side, but if Spiderman MM is doing it, it's possible. Everything is just data when it comes down to it, and data can be transferred as well as transformed to necessary formats.
Pretty sure that’s a lieDefinitely not Sony's problem. Miles Morales will allow save transfers
Xbox saves can sync across PC/Xbox/Series X.
Where is the lie?Pretty sure that’s a lie

Your saves working from ps4 to Ps5. Thought that was confirmed to not be the case.Where is the lie?

Only the remaster doesn’t. Miles morales does.Your saves working from ps4 to Ps5. Thought that was confirmed to not be the case.
True. Cross-save through the cloud had been a "thing" on Sony systems at least as far back as 2012, several years before either Microsoft or Nintendo cared to offer any such luxuries themselves. I wrote the following in this post two days ago:
There are lots of games (big and small) that supported cross-save between PS3, PS4, and PS Vita. Sony promoted this feature pretty heavily at a time when their two chief competitors turned a blind eye to it.
Cross-save is accomplished by saving data to the cloud. I'm not talking about PS Plus cloud saves (like you would use to back up saved data for personal use), but cloud saves within the games themselves, maintained by the game's publisher. Some games required the user to manually sync the saves, while others accomplish this automatically without any user intervention--it was all up to the developer's implementation.
If little games like Sound Shapes, CounterSpy, Shovel Knight, Another World, Velocity 2X, and several NeoGeo emulations could pull off cross-save cleanly without a hitch, then there's no excuse for a major commercial release to restrict it.
Heck, I remember that Grand Theft Auto V for PS4 went as far as allowing you to import save data from the Xbox 360 version of the game.
It's up to the game's publisher and/or developer to get this sorted out. If they are having difficulty, then they should seek assistance from Sony and/or any of the developers of the games mentioned above.
They are probably regarded as different games on PS5 which is pretty stupid tbh.
Ok fairOnly the remaster doesn’t. Miles morales does.
Oooh k. Fair fair.MM has cross save. SMR does not.

If the developers are having issues with it, that shows that the support is not built in as easily into the SDK as it is for Xbox. That blame still goes onto Sony for not making a system that is streamlined and easy for this type of transition to work.
Using you GTA example, GTA was able to do that because it started to save your information in its own cloud network, not PSNs or the other system. They created their own system that could save the game in the cloud and then convert the data for another platform so it could be imported. Not every developer is going to spend the time and resources to do that.
For Xbox, it really looks like Microsoft spent time to make the tools easy and accessible for developers to use, which would be why we are seeing that saves will be supported. They have already been doing it with a lot of their games that are on both PC and Xbox with their cross saves. Even games not made by Mircosoft, like Final Fantasy XV, support Xbox to PC saves.
This really seems like to be a case where Microsoft has developed easy tools for the developers to use where Sony has not.

The amount of stupid in this post is amazing. It’s beyond ridiculous at this point. Good job Jim Ryan, I wonder if he’s a double agent for Microsoft because he’s doing everything he can to tear down everything Yoshida, House and Layden built.
