John from DF: No raytracing on XSX at launch (Update: “Oh, maybe it will then...”)

Sure thing

And here's SonyGAF favourite NXGamer confirming it's RT

At least in that GIF there's nothing confirming RT. The reflections in the puddles could just as easily be SSR.

Oh heavens no. What will my xbot fan boy ass ever doooooo. Please help me Sony bots...... who fucking cares lol? Is Ray tracing puddles really gonna make a huge difference. Probably not

I remember Xbox fanboys spreading FUD all summer, months and months of BS on how PS5 won't have ray tracing, on how the SX superior CU count would make it look solo much better...and yet it's the Series X that doesn't have it at all at launch...hell, no next gen games are running on it.

The irony of the situation is just delicious. :)

Its really crazy at the moment isnt it. You feel like some users heads are about to explode. I have never known console warring as intense and tribal as its been the last 6 months or so. Not with 360/ps3, Snes/genesis, PS1/Saturn, etc.
I suppose the rise of social media over the current gen has something to do with that.

I don’t mind most of it, it’s piss take trolling and most of us are no strangers to that so it’s no biggie.

All humour aside, I want both consoles to bring it particularly after the year we are all having , it’s in our interest they are both and Nintendo nailing it isn’t it? And to be honest with you I’m someone who’s been pretty disappointed at the Xbox division for a while and criticise them a lot. when I read the stories , gossip , the dominant talk of backwards compatibility I think oh here we go again LOL

Well good thing I wasn’t one of them

oh the horror.

I'm honestly kind of shocked how many PS5 games have RT, I didn't think it was something Sony would focus on tbh.

Even the impressive looking NBA 2K21 game, is this ray tracing on the floor:

giphy.gif

That’s pretty nice ! The lighting in particular is lovely! 2k should put a demo on PS5 store launch week.

No he said he is not sure about WD legion. That's all

He said he forgot about it. As in, Ubisoft says it will launch with RT on Xbox Series and Microsoft have shown it playing on Series S with RT, but he "forgot"

This is not someone speaking in an official capacity, he's bullshitting.

Yeah this looks fucking alright for running on a budget console. Need more information, NOW.

1. What resolution is it running at ?
2. What are the framerates ?
3. What graphical features is it missing vs Series X ?

I need fucking MORE !!!!

This is the video, they show Gears in 120fps and a bunch of next gen games like AC Valhalla, Watch Dogs and others at 1440p. I suspect some at least are 30 fps, though they say the target is 1440p/60fps just before showing the gameplay.

The 1440p is confirmed by pixel count, sadly on Ree. The FPS is a bit harder to eyeball.

It has RT, auto-HDR, it's not really missing much from Series X other than raw power, a BD drive and different BC style.

Also wouldn’t this be a developers issue not Microsoft’s lol.

Thanks. I didn't see this video until today. 1440p is ok by me. Watch Dogs actually looks really good in these videos.

This should then be alright as a console until PS5 and Series X units become readily available.

They already did in the wired article published October 5th

Phil Spencer :

"When I think about games where ray tracing has had a dramatic impact on my experience as a player, it’s kind of spotty"
“Ray tracing has failed to deliver on its promise.” Few if any games have significantly benefited from the tech

Now we know why uncle Phil started downplaying RT. Xsx will have spotty implementation, if at all.

My guess is RT will be patched later for xsx but it will be inferior to the PS5.

A source, before anyone doubts.

I don't understand why they are so behind with launch titles, I thought they were saving their load for next gen launch after a quiet couple years for Series X (an understatement).
I dunno there is still a ton of games to play at launch. Regardless if there “first party” or not. Halo was suppose to be there but I won’t speak to much about that because I’m sure I’ll get shamed for doing so.

I guess it's a bit of a blow. As a purchaser of either, I would find out the reason a Yakuza: Like a Dragon has a next gen version on Xbox Series at launch and not on PS5 until next year.

I mean, something about their engine must need serious rework to hit a modest 4K 30 on the slower machine.

It is ms issue. Ms decided to talk about these for 2 years and when it came time to show it , it all fell apart as it was all hollow pr talk as per usual
Ok they talked about Ray tracing because it’ll eventually come. But all the games coming out are all third party so Microsoft has no control over that lol? If Halo actually was coming out and didn’t have Ray Tracing at launch then I’d see how your argument makes sense and I dunno if it’s possible with back comp. But the RT games coming to PS5 are Sony games. With fancy puddles or what ever. Sooo explain how it’s still Microsoft’s fault that third party games don’t have RT

Is Ray Tracing really such a big deal? In fast paced games like COD, are you going to be more worried about real time reflections or just being competitive?

No some multiplaform games getting ps5 raytracing with a patch later on for xsx like dmc5 se. Not just sony games . So it has to do with ms dev kits and api

I was playing Alien Isolation earlier, and the part where you go into the alien hive, well its water reflections look better than any ray tracing i have seen so far.
Imo ray tracing should of been kept for PS6/Xbox 5, or atleast for any potential mid gen pro consoles, RT would of been a nice hook for the pro consoles actually.

Nobody really cares about Ray tracing. Let's be honest. It's just something gamers are latching to this gen because there ain't much else.

It's good for a " let's look into a puddle" or a glass window moment.

No we need to focus on performance. And new interesting game styles, better AI etc.

I hate that this is the direction games are going in.

I mean did ye guys check out Alex from Digital Foundry's latest 40 minute video on Ray Tracing? 40 minutes of looking into puddles.

I just... Don't get the excitement on Ray Tracing.

No, its honestly not worth it considering how much it impacts performance. But hey what do i know, i have a pc with a 480 not really woried about graphics.

In some games I get it for the visual appeal.. but when they showed it off for Devil May Cry 5 SE, I thought cool but it doesn't do anything for me?
The fast paced gameplay is why I love that game. Not look into a mirror admiring Nero for a few minutes... It benefits more from stable FPS

I dont trust DF or anything they say.
Shill who chat nothing but FUD, id rather here what Cherno has to say about this than these crooks.
Obviously they have been paid off and will say anything that shines a good light Microso.................ohh.

On Topic.
Isnt WatchDogs a launch title? I coulda sworn WD:L was a launch title.
I think he is talking about first party titles specifically.....of which MS has err none so makes sense that of those none none of them have Raytracing.
But titles for the console as a whole WatchDogs has RT.

Hardware on point but nothing that says buy me now!
This is actually the first generation where no title is begging me to buy it at launch.
Im legit most looking forward to enjoying previous gen games at 4K60HDR more than any one title from either company.
Im not a Demon Souls fan, and Spiderman doesnt sell me the console, The Series X literally has no exclusives and everything else doesnt look anywhere near as attractive as to make me want to shell out for a console.

Thank god Nvidia didnt do a price hike on their GPUs gen on gen.
AMD where you at, show me dem shits! Bring dat heat at an even lower pricepoint.
