lol not a Dawn fan - eh?

I actually didn't mind Dawn and that arc, it's just that's when I originally stopped watching the show. I went into high school when season 4 was airing and that's the last one I watched semi regularly on TV. I wouldn't even say I love it exactly just that's where my knowledge extends to. I think the first 3 seasons are awesome and I have a lot of nostalgia for that, but with season 4 they started bringing in the lesbians and something changed in the shift to college, it felt really girly all of a sudden and I didn't care. The Initiative stuff felt lame to me, Riley was an incredibly poor and bad acting Angel substitute.

Rewatching it I think Dawn was fine, but I'm still not really a fan of those last several seasons. None of the later "big bads" ever felt as good as The Master, Angel, Spike, or The Mayor. The show Angel grows nicely and finishes much stronger, despite being cut off too short at the end. It was so good in season 5 with Angel & Spike back in the forefront and brooding ladies far away in another canceled show.

#Phonepunk# #Phonepunk# you are the absolute worst person on this board for responding to posts, often directly conversing with people, without quoting the post you are responding to. For whatever reason, that comes across as condescending and flippant a lot of the time. It feels like proper forum etiquette to quote the post you are responding to. You're not giving the other person a heads up to respond and the impression is you don't care if they do or not. It's a small thing but when it happens to me if feels unnecessarily disrespectful, not hard to quote someone when responding to something you just read. Keeps the original post around for posterity to even if it's edited/deleted.

I dont think anyone likes Riley

The worst was the slayer hopefuls, that final season is garbage.

Did you ever see Forever Knight? Anyone from Canada is probably fairly familiar with it but I'm not sure if it ever aired outside the country. It was essentially Angel. Several hundred year old vampire turns good and becomes a detective investigating crimes in 90's Toronto to atone for his centuries of sin. His evil arch nemesis vampire buddy had platinum blonde hair too.

Haha, sure looks like lower budget Canadian Angel alright.

That's awesome. I won't watch it now, there's too much on my plate (including a Buffy re-watch: Season 3 currently.. the best)

I'm just glad to know it exists. Kinda like that Friday the 13th Show:

The first two seasons are prime Buffy to me. Just completely fun, funny, and telling surprisingly great stories (for the time, I suppose).

It’s the third season where things start to fall apart for me. All her friends become unlikable, sanctimonious screechers because she dared take some time off after some of the most awful things that could happen to a human being. The quality drops. I can’t even remember what it was about.

The fourth just is really bad. All I can remember of that is the setting being neat, and the episode where they couldn’t talk, which was awesome. Also, soldiers. Lots of generic soldiers/military.

The fifth I enjoyed. Kind of a return to form. It’s not as good as classic Buffy, but it was a fun season. And it ends in the most epic way.

Burn the rest. Lol. Idk. It’s not all terrible, but it’s a classic example of a show running out of gas.

Which is weird because Angel picked up the torch and showed that there was a ton more you could do in that universe, and they barely even scratched the surface on that show. It makes me mad that Buffy was garbage for as long as it was, but as soon as Angel was tearing it up they canceled it.

I really think it has to do with staff. It’s not a coincidence that when Whedon came back for one episode (the musical), it was one of the best episodes in the series’ history.

So many beloved shows get passed off to writers that have no business guiding them, and go through their final years as a slog that brings more misery to people than joy. It’s really a tragedy. Finding/building a strong successor should be a must before a creator exits a show, or maybe the show itself should just simultaneously end.

I always end up watching both Buffy and Angel concurrently, so I can experience it as close to the original viewing order as I can. It genuinely makes the shows kinda hard to separate in my head as a result and I just view it as 'the Buffyverse'

Season 1 of Buffy is very monster of the weekish and just sorta the concept at its base level

Season 2 is lean and mean. I could see why it would be someone's favorite

Season 3 is where the budget got a lot bigger and we started seeing the writers play in the universe more the same way they did on Angel. All the grief and conflict with The Watcher's Council etc. Also Faith and The Mayor. Maybe the most fun season.

As the show carries on, I love the initiative stuff, Buffy literally fighting a god, them introducing Dawn as a play on the sudden appearance and disappearance of siblings within TV shows and then strongly implementing that into the plotline with her being the key, it was super clever meta shit. Like kudos on that one, hot damn. Or like Buffy getting pulled out of heaven and stuff. Warren andrew and jonathan . Like them making jonathan a 'villain' was so amusing. That part ruled. Tara, all the stuff involving Anya and Xander's wedding
Then on Angel you see Cordellia become a total boss. Spike's arc is super compelling also with his face turn. Dudes I love that show lol

One little thing that bothered me about the "Buffyverse" is that they very frequently make references to Hell, literal, actual Hell. Vampires can't touch crosses, holy water, etc. Buffy is pulled out of "Heaven", yet there's an episode late in the series where a character asks her if there's a God, and she's like "jury's still out" - what? It seems like a really sloppily built universe and theology.
