If you compare him to the greatest of the 90', 00's, even 10's, he wouldn't hold a candle to them. But times have changed, especially the music industry, and what records radio stations play. Get a good beat, and you can improvise everything else now a days...

Why do i smell some racism in this thread? The guy is probably one of the most accomplished artists at the time and somehow people think he is "talentless".

I get the feeling if this commercial had everything exactly the same except instead of Travis, its some white guy, people would have less issues with it.

sure, it doesn't mean he isn't talented though. i disagree about artists being propped up because of a good beat though. maybe someone could be a 1 hit wonder and get lucky off a beat without a lot of lyrical talent, but travis isn't a one hit wonder by any means

I don't think it has anything to do with the time... he will be talented even if in 90', 00', or 10'.
Others being talented doesn't make him talentless.

I think your nostalgia is playing a big role here.

I don't much care for his music, although there are a couple of his songs in my library. However, I don't think that's the important thing. I think the 34M followers on Instagram is what Sony is looking for. 20M with Robert Lewandowski, if he also got one. US and Europe right there. They got popular Japanese YTers as well. I think they just want to hit the hot spots with some of the non-gaming people. Most of the gaming community probably don't follow places like DF, GameInformer, and so on. It's just marketing. Pretty clever too, IMO.

They don’t hold a candle at him rn. He is the biggest rapper in the world, and biggest influencer. Its not only been Sony, McDonalds. This dude releases shoes with Nike that go on to the resell market with ridiculous high values. Everything he touches turns into gold.

They are doing actual marketing and choosing the right guys to the job.

For exemple... Europe... you can argue about Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo but the last two years Lewandowski is eating both at breakfast.... he is the shinning start in the team that is winning everything in the football world.

You will have way more chances to see Lewandowski on a Champions League finals than Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo (well Ronaldo is a mid-tier team now).

Can some people not understand that some people have different music tastes? I don't know why people are hating. He used to (don't know if he still does) produce his own beats and write his own songs that sounds pretty talented to me. Since the average person can't do what he does he's talented by default. Someone who you don't like can be talented too, they're not two mutually exclusive events

They have even to design a Jordan XXXIII Travis Scott shoes.

I know him because of the stuff he did with Post Malone and I have nothing against him, never really followed him but I don't really have anything against mumble rappers. They're actually helping a sort of rock resurgence happen right now because many of them are doing interesting crossover stuff, so it's cool in my old school eyes :messenger_beaming:

Also, he's wearing an Ozzfest t-shirt which makes him even cooler.

I grew up in the 80's when rap music was great. I pity today's youth that has to put up with what ever goes for rap these days. Give me some Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, De La Soul, A tribe called quest, NWA, Ice Cube or even 2 Live Crew. Not this modern crap.

Lol this got me laughing hard on the people actually caring about the musician. It's an ad. Essentially he is a prop.

Edit: I liked how they have engineers and designers front and center. Great ad imo.

I don´t get the general hate Travis Scott gets. No one has to like his music, but you gotta give him the credit for what he made out of his Style of music which was a small cloudrapniché at first and turned into this trapbehemoth his name and his brand are. Also he´s pretty dope live, saw him 2015 at splash! festival, it was a nice fun hour.
