Man lots of little nuggets dropping today. Bugsnax for free, I can finally order the damn camera adapter and AMD crushed that show today. I definitely think I'll be building a new AMD only PC beginning of next year.

Also nice to see Xbox confirm they're using full RDNA 2, although I'm pretty sure we already knew that so I'm not sure why some folks are doing cartwheels and victory laps? or I guess because the playstation has different custom features? Odd folks. Both will be great as we've already seen so don't worry playstation die hards!

I am curious now if Sony will do a deeper dive into their own custom architecture for us tech heads or if they feel they even need to at this point. Otherwise we'll just have to wait for a die shot and developers to spill the beans.

Ok back to work. Believe it or not I'm sitting in on a meeting discussing next years updated carbon neutral and reusable product packaging :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Is this true? I've checked all the slides in the hot chips presentation and can't find any mention on ROPs, neither on the slides nor in the live coverage done by anandtech and similar websites.

Series S is not a 4K console. The XSX and PS5 are. High bandwidth is needed for higher resolutions. 3070 is not comparable, that thing is a monster with lots of extra silicon. Edit: and also features 512GB/s as per Nvidia, not 448.
No 3070 is 448 GB/s. Check again.

And the Xbox has the shittier bandwidth because its split. 560x(10/16)+336x(6/16)=476 GB/s on average.

Unified bandwidth is the only way to get max performance from an APU.

Because it looks like Xbox Series X chip doesn't have it.

So what MS is trying to say with "full RDNA 2 integration" if it misses some hardware features?
It doesn't say "full RDNA2 integration" but "Full AMD RDNA 2 Architecture" that's obviously talking about hardware. That means that either they have that (which I don't think so) or that's not a RDNA2 feature
 
Do they actually wanna put more fire on the ongoing console war ? This shit is embarrassing, coming officially from Xbox. We already knew that Series X/S is closer to standard RDNA 2, while PS5 will use a custom RDNA 2 with unique added tech into it by Sony. We don't even know what Sony has added into it.

I predict multi-platforms to work oh-so-slightly better on Series X too. Granted, this may take Digital Foundry to point out, and even then you have to ask if it's worth it. For many people that's all it takes. Which is fine. It will be interesting if any multi-platform game takes unique advantage of PS5 SSD and I/O. If so, there could potentially be a visual difference. More than likely not, though.
UE5 is built to take advantage of the PS5. Last I checked it's the default engine of most developers. The new Nvidia cards are focused on I/O improvements...I think this statement will not age well.

So we learnt Ps5 has RDNA2 compute units, with per CU clock level gating to achive 2.23 Ghz. So Ps5 has RDNA2 CU, I dont think Xbox has this at 1.8 Ghz - XSX is also 20 waves per Simd, so thats RDNA1 waves.

So whats next, API, yes DX12 will be common, Ps5 has GNM

Right, onto features, Ray tracing, VRS, Mesh shaders in Geometry engine.

Ps5 likely to have all but mesh shaders as Sony have their own version called simply GE.

So what do you not get ?

The big take away is RDNA2 CU needs everything seen in the slide to get 2.2 GHz which is a key RDNA2 feature. MS skipped that bit it seems.

Everything else RDNA2 feature wise is same, except Geometry vs mesh shader engine. Also we knew this 2 weeks ago, but for your reference - now you can understand it.



Totally agree.

I think people have not found out that AMD has introduced RDNA2 with infinity cache and high frequencies.

Which seems to me the essence of what was achieved in UE5. And what we are seeing on the console.

I think that the two things not included in RDNA2 and that if they have they are precisely those that have resulted from the collaboration of Sony + AMD.

Yeah, I’d not consider this to be a slam dunk “Big L” for PlayStation....Xbox fans (I like Xbox) are gonna have some fun though. This actually might not be a loss at all once Sony is transparent about what their customized solution is. But they just need to this if they want to end to the speculation. But they really might not care enough to do it....or, could be that there solution is clearly inferior to what Microsoft did. If that’s the case I’d remain quiet too. I suspect Sony engineers have done their work well and I want to see it.

Aww, let them have their day in the sun. But i think this may backfire badly! Sony didn't customise their chip for no good reason

They have the same feature set in terms of rendering, but missing some hardware features like infinity cache.

Great presentation by AMD - but lack of detail kills me. Should come more in the coming days/weeks though.

We basically learned zero about the PS5 today unfortunately. As to the tweet that people are making a big thing about I am not sure why? It could mean two things - and both means zero with regard to the ongoing console comparison. Either they refer to DirectX or they refer to VRS that I could see Sony choose not to have (by choice) since they have tested and validated checker-board rendering themselves since the PS4Pro (checkerboard and VRS does the same thing).

Mods need to be accountable for what happened in this thread. Implying that the leaks of lower clocks and not full RDNA 2 for PS5 got people banned.

No. The mods banned people but offered them to come back if they could back up their claims.

None succeeded.

As far as I can see, nothing coming from today is “evidence” the PS5 is a less tflop or less rdna 2 machine than it was before.

Perhps if you have new evidence you should post it or risk .... a ban!

It isn't split, developers see it as one pool, stop the FUD. The system reserve and CPU will use the 6gb slower bandwidth( which is still higher than a X1X) and the GPU will use the 10gb high bandwidth that it needs, with a higher bit interface too.

This has been detailed several times.

I think it's more likely they don't count the inifinty cache as a feature. Let's see first if all 6000 series GPU have it

They doesn't say full hardware RDNA 2 but instead full RDNA 2 integration and/or RDNA 2 capabilities.
Please, read the article instead of just the tweet if you want to comment on what they say and what they don't.
