If a game is running in PS4 or Pro mode it means there was nothing to improve because the resolution and frame rate are locked. Works the same way on Xbox. Even though supposedly BC games there have access to full clocks at all times, it does nothing for games with locked frame rates. Just like PS5.
But say a Pro game already has an unlock frame rate or variable without a patch, it’ll run in PS5 mode regardless. Those patches you are referring to are to do exactly that.
PS4 non pro enhanced game locked resolution and frame rate- PS4 legacy mode-18cu 800mhz
PS4 Pro enhanced game locked resolution and frame rate- Pro legacy mode-36cu 911mhz
PS4 game unlocked/variable frame rate- access to PS5 clocks
PS4 Pro enhanced game unlocked/variable frame rate- access to PS5 clocks.
PS5 native mode/Game Boost- 36cu 3.5ghz/2.2ghz.
Meaning-Pro enhanced games- dynamic resolution- uncapped frame rate- variable frame rate- full access to GPU/CPU clock speed to increase resolutions and frame rate.
The 120hz limitation, if true, is only because, as you said, PS5 uses hardware to emulate PS4 BC and PS4 doesn’t support that. But that doesn’t mean BC games are locked to PS4 clocks at all times.

THERE IS NOTHING LIKE IN HERE. I have PC plugged in (well it's a laptop, but with RTX2080) and still it's way too colorfull. I am comparing this to the LG 34WL85C-B, which is calibrated. SEND H-E-L-P or something, holy shit. God fucking dammit, I feel like total retard in this sense, I can program Neural Netorks from scratch, but this fucking TV is not cooperative with what I want at all. Probably going to have to hooked up my Osciloscope to the main PCB, B R B : DI go with Sony because I use my TV as a monitor, so I need that color accuracy for photo/video editing. And turn off all BS and noise reduction and stuff when using PC mode. It has a dedicated mode called "Graphics" mode for PC and productivity which is the most accurate between all modes:

Nah I would get killed by GF, who really loves this TV, so I am fine you know. But it's different type of technology. Maybe it's a good way to finnaly motivate me to clean the basement of this house, make it comfortable and there I would have my ultimate man cave : D

Two words: convinience and comfort. One less thing on your head, one less wire annoying you. Also, with standard speekers developers can fine tune the audio to them.
I doubt it would cost Sony more than 10 dollars to implement, but if it does, then I agree with you that a low entry price should be priority.
I do have to say seeing all the unboxing videos, I'm rather disappointed in Sony and the PS5 egg carton packaging effort.
At least Microsoft gave the XSX a premium feel with its packaging.

Yeah few months from now it'll get the best firmware update and all fixes needed, so you'll get it even much cheaper than now if you can still spare some. I'm now being totally fucked by Sony a7S III ($3,500) and around 3-4 lenses for at least $7,000 plan! This could fuck up even buying XH90 as at the end it won't make me money.

Because I am well known idiot I own Canon EOS 5D Mark IV + Canon EF 85 mm f/1,2 L II USM which is like, umm 125K CZK ~5.500USD. I love that camera and I love 85mm glass. However I do not take any high profile picture so my spending is not really warranted. Well I own like a 50k USD musical equipment so...and I am not really some well known star. But I have friend in Barandov atliers where a shitton of Holywood movies are taken. So yeah I sometimes strike something which could be sold and shit. nah cause Last Guardian disc version (unpatched) hits 60 FPS on PS5 because it uses higher clocks.
If it used PS4 Pro clocks, it wouldn't hit 60 FPS unpatched.

Yup, that camera could seriously pay me quickly. Man, I made good money with only Osmo Pocket and DJI Phantom 4 Pro.
Anyway, for productivity I can guarantee you that you should only stick with Sony. I had a headache with my other 4K LCD LG and still crushes details and never managed to get the colors right. You can always choose tiny monitors but I've went with TV's+PC combo since 2007 and never looked back.

But there are no Sony monitors, which they should do, because back then, when i was in High-school, we have some CRT and also LCD monitors which were even level above industry standard which are EIZO monitors. We used that in graphic class, which was led by the guy who did animation in Machinarium, Samorost, Botanicula, Chuchel...I hope at least you know one of that game. He is good men and he introduced me to Danial Vávra...you know internet well-known NAZI : D So yeah, Sony excels in TV division no arguing that, however they should step up their game in monitors. I know that you are using TV, but I sadly loss clarity of my sight last year, so I need sothing where I could be close, which even with 4k TV is not really optimal.

Also if you would not have problem sharing where you get money from pictures/videos? I mean seems like a dream for a lot of people. It hits 60fps because the IPC gains not the clocks.
It is running at original clocks.
PS5 has 3 BC modes:
PS4 BC: PS4 clocks for games games that doesn’t have a Pro option
PS4 Pro BC: PS4 Pro clocks for games that have a Pro option
These two options works for all games without need patch and their beneficies from the IPC from Zen>Jaguar and RDNA2>GCN2/4.
PS5 BC: full PS5 clocks for games patched to use it or releases after July 8th.
There is no other option for BC.

Firstly, as if the PS5 version looks that much better than the XSX version, what a joke. They are identical basically, without any zoom or so, no one could tell a difference.
Anyway, that also would explain why XSX has the full RDNA 2.0 feature set, what I’ve heard from rumors that PS5 was scheduled for a release in 2019, obviously the tools are more advance, but in a year or so, when XSX tools are final, the games will look and perform much better.
This is not a big issue anyway, since launch games are not really optimized and lazy ports mostly. Launch games never take full advantage of the hardware.
And since the console are going to last 7 years or so, the first year doesn’t really matter.

Like Sony already proved in previous gems PSDevKits keep the same from launch to the end of generation.
So now the narrative is that, everytime XSX performs worse it's because ''Devs haven't learnt to unlock the hidden power yet, the tools aren't good'' and everytime it performs better it's ''Well duh, it's the more powerful console like we always said''. It's a win win situation!
