Of course, and obviously there is some discussion to be had about which features and systems people prefer and whatnot, but I'm so tired of the playground mentality this game engenders from it's player base. I don't know what sort of discussion you were expecting by waltzing into a thread about what SF4 did for reviving the scene and shitting out "it sucked". An opinion you might hold and be justified in believing personally, but like, why drag the thread into that tired, tired ass shit once more.

What did SF4 do differently as a fighting game again? Outside the hype behind the name brand itself?

It's not about what it did differently. It's about how instrumental it was in reviving the scene, it's pretty undeniable that it jolted the genre out of a flatline. That's enough for a nod in the books IMO.

But I would say it was the first one with real, half decent online play. It was the first one I went online with. We can argue about the ups and downs of this, but it was groundbreaking, and was a massive success. It had a monstrous roster and felt like a love letter to classic SF, not a pretentious evolution.

The name brand helped more than anything. But at the end of the day LAUNCH SF4 was extremely vanilla and it wasn't until the last revision that it become decent. The online part is true though, I never had any trouble finding or having a playable match.

Of course the name was a big deal, I don't think anyone would deny that, people who played the shit out of SF2 were just excited to have another modern entry in the series they could enjoy again. It felt like 3 was made exclusively for Japanese tastes/pro skill levels, I don't recall any of my friends owning 3 or even casually playing it, and we were all SF2 fans.

The decline of arcades didn't help. To date I've only seen 3 or 4 SF3 arcades in my area. Most of the people that eventually played the game did so on the Xbox, Ps2 or on a emulator. Did 3 even have any ads?

I have the week off for bereavement purposes, and I lost power past night. Took it upon myself to grab some paint from Sherwin William's and get the gear needed to finally scrape off this ugly wallpaper in the entry way to my home. Gonna paint it Dynamic Blue to bounce off the Flamingo Pink I chose previously. Gonna do an accent wall in the same style. I like color.

I think theyll play well together. The room was already "too pink" and kinda lowering my T count just spending so much time in here (it's where my PS2 and 360 and CRTs are). Wanted something that would really pop against the pink. This seems about right.

Wallpaper is a motherfucker to get off but warm water and vinegar does wonders as a solution. My grandmother lived in this house before me and she had a large portion coated in this crap then proceeded to tar it up with cigarettes. Way to go granny

I just saw some guy at the bank taking out $1000, tells the banker "I just want to get one of these ps5s for my kid for Christmas", not sure if he knows something I don't or if he's buying from a scalper.
Bringing my buddy along for muscle to pick mine up in half hour, shipment came in early. I don't trust the people where I live, don't want to get mobbed for this thing in the parking lot.

That Alanah Pearce thread is rough. I don't know enough about her to have an opinion. I can't say that any of her critics are off base but man...there is a need for some tact when lobbing a criticism at someone. Make sure you have good data and do so in a non-demeaning way. You won't convince anyone if you just go with a cliche.

From what I gather and going off brep. A former IGN person. She me two'd a guy without evidence. People dogpilled on him and the beta basically said "ok maybe I did something wrong or inappropriate. So she left, later become a videogame streamer but the one that would know everything about her is teezzy teezzy I believe. No idea if she has actual experience as a writer either.

Ah, interesting. That would be relevant information to include. Most of the replies are just asserting she got a job because she is a woman.

I can't say its an entirely unheard of career leap from journalism to developer in the industry either. Mixed results though.

I don't have an issue with people who dislike her. Just want context/understanding. I think it is valid to question somebody's credentials but there are tactful ways to do it. Shouting down because she is a woman doesn't do anything to change an opinion. Not accusing you of that, your issue seems to be with her material/resume and thats fair.

I have no idea if she has any actual experience writing anything outside IGN though. Or what the process is for hiring people over at video game studios is. Maybe people are missing something or maybe those incels are right.

My rule of thumb is be kind, be reasonable, be accurate, and be honest. Don't hold back when criticism is due and show up with tactfully presented data.

The only video game personality I actively watch on a regular basis would be Aris / Avoiding the Puddle who I discovered a while back just learning Tekken combos



I'm not really into that scene. Most of those online personalities never seem like someone I'd interact with in real life. Giant Bomb and old AVGN would probably be the other exception. Alanah too, I guess.

Too often those people do annoying voices and crap. Quick jump cuts, etc. I dislike it.
