Then @dark10x is in the wrong line of work if he got upset over the way I asked a question.

Funny how some sites want to throw their hands up in the air saying we hate console wars yet their very lively hood depends on the clicks they get and most are via console wars.

Edit - I didn't attack him the way people have and asked a legit question and wanted to see his response.

I asked John because he does in fact respond to fans more then most people.

I wanted to legit know if they afforded the same courtesy here as they did for the Devs over Dirt
I agree with you here. John is just lashing out at the constant hate. When it comes to their comparisons, I don't believe there's something malicious going on, but they catch plenty of shit if they don't do their proper due diligence. I also think John tries to be as neutral as possible. Problem being, you can easily look at Digital Foundry as an arms dealer getting upset when they find themselves caught in the crossfire. You try and be neutral as much as you wish but you're playing to a hardcore base and they need your ammunition. Accepting their place in all of that should mean coming up with ways to cool the blowback.

I have not bought TLOU2 yet, waiting for the ps5 edition before I jump in. I have a big backlog, I can wait.
Its only $30 (50% off) on the PS4/5 digital store and most physical shops. Great time to buy it for later.

Not sure the £ pricing equivalent.

no. the performance award the critics gave to Kamala Khan

I have no idea about that one award but the majority of the awards are fan voted.

"Known as the ‘People’s Gaming Awards’, the 2019 edition saw millions of votes cast by gaming fans from all over the world, with Capcom's Resident Evil 2 claiming the coveted ‘Ultimate Game of the Year’ prize. It's your support that make the Golden Joystick Awards so special, as millions give something back to the creators and teams they love."

"Before voting begins, the Golden Joystick Award shortlists are (fiercely) debated by a panel of journalists from brands including gamesradar.com, pcgamer.com, Edge magazine, Retro Gamer, and OPM, plus our trusted network of freelance writers. Everyone nominates their favorite games of the last 12 months across 21 public-voted categories, which are assessed and debated until we settle on a final shortlist, with a maximum of 8 games per category. For the first time this year, we invited publishers and developers to nominate their games for consideration by the judging panel. This isn't a guarantee of inclusion, but does guarantee the publisher-nominated game will be considered by the judging panel, eliminating the 'blind spots' that can occur when judging the hundreds, if not thousands, of new game releases each year.

With the shortlists in place, the judges take a back seat, and public voting begins. Your vote can really make the difference, and it's worth noting that some of last year's most keenly-contested categories were won by 20 to 30 votes, which is fine margins when you consider the millions of votes cast each year."

The judges pick nominees, but the winners of most awards are publicly voted. Idk about that 1 award you're talking about.

Maybe he should just make the videos and stay off social media for a week or 2, things will die down and its only like this for a few weeks every 6 years or so. Take a social break.

I don't understand John Linneman.

This has happening for a while now, but he keeps on engaging on twitter. Why? Hoping that people will change. Good luck with that.

I mentioned it before, but he should concentrate on posting facts, and never respond to negativity, and avoid reading it. He's just one guy, and it will wear him down.

Look at Richard. He does not engage, and he's doing fine.

Too much crap on twitter, that I don't check it anymore.

LG and Sony make the best OLEDs, with LG being the absolute best for gaming.

Sony X900/X800 and the Samsung Q90/Q80 QLEDs are great LCD options if you want to avoid any burn in risk / spend less.

OK I give up on this thing, I am not going to debate someone's psychological situation, I am not a psychologist or similar.

Sorry HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 was not my intention to say was your fault.

I can appreciate John's mental health situation, but you cannot put this on HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 or anyone else when considering a public forum like Twitter, especially when HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 's response in question was totally innocent and benign.

As an adult, responsible for his own mental health and wellbeing, John himself should be measuring his own activity on twitter. He's not forced to be active on the platform and many many other people wo recognize their own personal limitations understand that it's better for them to avoid it, rather than put themselves out there and run the risk of becoming embroiled in the toxicity that often eventuates.

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 from one adult to another, I understand what you tried to do and that it was
not malicious but we must be careful with John, he has certain problems with of depression
or similar (sorry if I'm wrong, it is not my intention).

I am sure you are good guy but even when this whole console discussion is entertaining,
we shouldn't put too much pressure on someone with John's situation.
HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 asked a perfectly reasonable question and it was phrased politely. Some days are like that.

I have nothing to add but just wanted to tag HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 since everyone is doing it

For the price its a great TV with current gen gaming in mind having HDMI 2.1

If you have the budget, just wait it out for a CX. Check Bestbuy, they have them cheapest.

LG and Sony make the best OLEDs, with LG being the absolute best for gaming.

Sony X900/X800 and the Samsung Q90/Q80 QLEDs are great LCD options if you want to avoid any burn in risk / spend less.

Thanks a lot but now I’m more confused lol .. should I wait for LG CX or should I go for Sony.. I really don’t know is it that big difference? I mean if I took the X900H do I lose much if i didn’t buy LG CX?

I mean Sony‘a TV is ready for PS5 with all nextgen features..

No reason to. They are showing ps4 version on PS5 via backwards compatibility. If anything there'll be better resolution and textures and that's it.
With the youtube stream at 1080p with very low Bitrate and only 30fps, no one would be able to see a noticeable difference between PS4 Pro and PS5 via BC anyway I am afraid.

I have a 77" C9 and the 65" X900H and without a doubt the OLED is a nicer picture and we use it often for watching movies and such.

I know burn in doesnt happen near as easy as it used to but burn in scares me and this Sony lets me leave static images on as much as I want and is a very nice gaming TV.

I cannot believe I have a PSv5....anyone else name their console? Been naming mine for years since the PS3 🍻.

One of the first things that I noticed is the sound. Perhaps it’s the 3D setting but my same headset and headphones are louder, more treble, bass and just clear....I literally went from PS4 one day, to PS5 the next and omg.....

I still can’t believe I’m playing this console. I remember March, hanging out here...UE5 Demo...June, all like it was yesterday for such a crazy year. My genuine hope is that those of you who truly want a PS5, will get one sooner than later 😔. It is an incredible console and they took great care to ensure us gamers have an experience worthy to be called “nextgen”.

Also, apologies if posted already (chances are you fools were already on it lol) but great read 🔥:

I have been thinking that lately because of what is happening graphically with SX and PS5.

In general to my understanding there are in SX real problems being able to use 12-14 CU per shader array and Shared Memory problems. Due to bandwidth problems, cache hits and I don't think it's a question of the dev kit. Something could be solved but in general I think it will be complicated and we will have to optimize case by case.

However, I also think that these additional CUs will work for mathematical calculations without exporting textures on SX.

In other words, graphically we are observing SX: 40 CU x 64 shaders x 2 OPS x 1825 MHz = 9,344 TF of graphic power and 12 CU x 64 shaders x 2 OPS x 1825 MHz = 2,803 TF FP32 or 5,606 TF FP16 to execute the DLSS AI (not dev yet). They could also be used to execute RT but only ray calculation they do not have bandwidth to store textures and make HIT in the caches, that is, they do not serve for RT reflection only GI with temporal ray count.

I think SX is developing its DLSS and sony has opted for temporary injection. The two ways to achieve this are impressive and I can't tell who will win. Since MS will have to rescale from a lower resolution to 4k with its DLSS and the other will do it from a higher resolution with temporary injection. Not to mention that MS DLSS should be quite in its infancy even and by the time they can include it it will be too late.

Bottom line: MS is a good machine but the stupid MS have done terrible marketing and haven't finished one of their main design functions for launch, which coupled with the stupid marketing has ended up by simply trashing their own console themselves.

Who runs MS marketing? I already remember the same people who have carried out the campaign so toxic this generation. Umm, I'm not surprised.

What do you think geordiemp geordiemp ????
I read this yesterday and found it consistent with thoughts I was having about where the final maturity of development will end on both systems and how they'll compare.

Like you, I was thinking that the CU count they've got in the XsX isn't going to be a linear gain, no matter how well they parallelize the workload situation with advance software tooling.

Cache availability per shader array seems to be less per CU in the XsX, even if they are limiting the arrays to 9 active CUs to match the PS5 setup in these early games - just at a clockspeed of almost 400mhz less.
Looking at the faceoff data so far it does feel like a comparison of a 36CU GPU at 1.8GHz versus a 36CU GPU at 2.2Ghz with cache scrubbers - where reducing the frame-time, by upping the frame-rate, pushes too hard on the GPU with less cache bandwidth per frame, and less clock ticks per frame, that then results in needing to reduce LODs and resolution to stay within the data & processing bandwidth as seen in that headlight comparison picture on Dirt5 in performance mode.

Putting aside the major changes that we might expect to see from more use of async and Cerny's geometry engine on the PS5, I'm at a loss as to how the XsX can effectively utilise all of the CUs to its advantage with ICE team level solutions to get to PS5 level day 1 performance/fidelity without XsX needing to target a lower resolution that offsets its deficiency in rasterization disproportionally beyond the clockspeed to freeup cache bandwidth for the extra CUs to contribute evenly with a fully parallelized workload.

I've seen comparison comments about the PS3 and XsX situation and how it will improve, but where the PS3 SPUs are self contained with embedded memory local stores - and could DMA individually or any workgroup combination independent of the PPU once setup and kicked off - the extra XsX CUs within an array will contend for shared cache on every read and write, and won't even have the half-way-house situation of the Tempest Engine.

Like you said, a DLSS solution is probably the intended use case, although I wonder if tessellation could also save cache bandwidth to make up the current difference., even if the DLSS/tessellation might need to be more aggressive coming from lower LOD levels and lower native resolution for high frame-rate modes I expect the XsX with fully advance tool options to exceed the IQ of the Dirt5 120hz mode on the PS5.

Your comment seemed like good food for thought, anyway and even had me wondering if the tools narratives could both be true. Xbox tools to port games are ahead of schedule and not coming in hot, but still far away from the ICE team level solutions they need to match PS5 day1 results with Sony's tools that are coming in hot.

Another great thread from LeviathanGamer on next-gen advancements, these according to him will be one of the biggest leaps we've seen in 3D graphics. I highly recommend giving it a read although there is some really technical stuff in there, he also used the Playstation as an example and how these technologies are going to evolve with the PS5. Here are some tweets worth sharing.

EDIT: converted the thread into a single page for an easy read, here you go.

Do you know the difference between OLED TVs and LED LCD TVs? They have different strengths and weaknesses.

Many prefer OLEDs as they generally have the best picture contrast. But they're expensive and can suffer burn in, and can't get as bright as some LCDs.

LCDs (like Sony X900H and Samsung QLEDs) can't have any burn in issues, but don't have as true blacks, as good contrast ratios, or as good viewing angles from side, etc. But some get very bright which is great for HDR. And most LCDs are cheaper.

Rest mode on the front USB-A works fine for me when charging. Are you using the type c or the type a connector?

You can set the duration that the USB will charge. I have mine set to 3 hours so after 3 hours it turns off the charging USB port
I use the cable provided in the box usbA - usb C cable and all settings are good but for no avail

Appreciate the info and yes I know there are differences between oled and LCD but Sony has that Full Array LED tech as I read about it I figured that this one close the gap as possible as they can with OLED but still OLED is top notch.

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 and icerock icerock thank you all for replying and helping ..after lots of thought I decided to just wait a little more maybe something ahead will come and put these features in a great use with a lot of understanding from previous models.

I agree
C9 is still what I think the best TV on the market even ahead of the CX

if x2hr sounds much better, then the sound stage is a factor. i don't like using open back... the sound leakage is too much. i'd rather use my pair of speakers. lol

I think the X2hr sound better because they are better. It’s not a fair comparison. I was just referring to my setup. The pulses are really good for what they are. You brought up premium so I was just giving you an example of non premium headphones I use that sound great with tempest. But it’s wired into the controller and the pulse is wireless so it a fair comparison again. It’s a tough time for headphones and headsets. The optical port being left out of both consoles screwed things up big time.
