The Game Awards Reveal Expectations

So TGA is coming very soon and Geoff hasn't really hyped it like he usuay does. He usually tweets how many world premiers are coming. So I have a feeling this year will be very quiet in terms of announcements especially due to covid delays for game studios. Although I could be wrong Geoff did say he has a hype video dropping sometime this week so he could end up hyping up world premiers from this week.

But I think it would be a missed opportunity for Sony not to have a few things lined up especially if we go by their ad that's states Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet and Clank, Returnal and Destruction All-stars are coming firs half of 2021. I do think Gran Turismo 7 definitely not gonna make first half even if they stated that. So I reckon we may get a new Ratchet and Clank trailer with a release date as well as a new Returnal trailer with a release date. In terms of new game announcement I reckon if Last of Us 2 wins GotY Naughty Dog will show off Factions after their acceptance speech.

As for Microsoft I don't see them being ready to show off their first party games yet as their games are far off. Perhaps they will show of time exclusive games of some of their AA game partnerships.

Nintendo it's hard to say maybe they will show Bayonetta 2, Zelda and etc but I don't know if they will hold off and do a gams blow out reveal with their rumoured Switch Pro announcement next year.

I don't really have a sense of what to expect.

On the one hand, the Game Awards reveals have tended to be smaller titles, more niche things, more footage of things already revealed as bigger reveals tend to come at E3 or Nintendo Directs, Sony State of Plays etc.

On the other hand, there was no E3 this year so this is the biggest event if for publishers to show off their big 2021 (or at least first half of 2021) games. But then again it's the year of Covid so a lot of big game development may be behind and first half of 2021 is likely to be slow so they may wait until E3 for any heavy hitters they hope to launch in fall/winter 2021.

I kind of expect that and that's part of why I decided to grab an XSX to go with my PS5 as there's a bunch of stuff on Gamepass I want to play and that can fill the droughts between big 2021 new releases. I have no idea what my next new release purchase will be after Cyberpunk. Maybe Ratchet and Clank as that seems like a March/April release to me.

if sony doesn't make much appearances, then that is fucking sad. they have a slew of games needing released dates and even revealed soon. like where tf is naughty dog tlou2 remastered and factions? come on. maybe since kratos is in fortnite, Ragnarok will get a trailer

Could only show one trailer in game awards from Sony and then they can just do a State of Play in January-March

With all the rumors coming about I'm hoping to at least see ONE thing I'm moderately excited about. But other than that I'm doing my best to reserve my expectations and excitement.

Keighley will start the show off with a strip tease down to the full monty and perform acts with a banana to the donkey kong soundtrack. At least that's how I picture it in my mind.

The only good thing about these borefests are the Orchestra. I noticed that's true even for the games I would not play. I'm rooting for Ghost of Tsushima though, not the woke of us part 2.

Good point about Keighley not hyping shit up.

However, I think we are more or less due for several announcements and trailers. I think Elden Ring should be ready for a showing now. It's been a year and a half since the reveal.

Gow and or Horizon should make an appearance simply because of how they were revealed. Again, i believe they are due for a trailer or some gameplay.

If bloodborne or Silent Hills rumors are true then this would be the best place to reveal them. Kojima skipped it last year but i think he should have at least a trailer this year for Keighley.

Zelda might be shown as well. I am cautiously optimistic, but not entirely hopeful. If the show was getting all these heavy hitters, Keighley wouldve been hyping this shit up.

I don't expect anything from Nintendo thanks to 2020 being the year of our LORD COVID. Feels like Nintendo hasn't been too announce/trailer heavy lately.

Maybe there will be a pleasant surprise and we'll see something BOTW2 related. I dunno something about it being a digital show makes me think Nintendo may be less interested in it.

Not holding my breath for Metroid.

Would love to see Silent Hill but I'm doubting that too.

Every year I say they should announce something with Dead Space but nope EA is gonna EA.

Microsoft will show off their own exclusive IP's and again steal the show more than likely. Whether they have anything ready or don't that isn't really the point, they can show off games that wont be ready for another 5 years as Bethesda did with The Elder Scrolls 6 and as MS did at the last game awards and it will still make a large impact.

I'm hoping for a ton and expect to get none of it. Really just want anything substantial from Nintendo. Switch Pro, Prime Trilogy, Zelda 35th/BotW 2 - anything.

From Sony anything would be nice but I'm still riding the PS5 high and have a massive backlog of stuff I'm working on that a lack of imminent announcements would just help me catch up a bit there.

They want the timing to be right and they also want a solid showing. If they don't show anything, they have their reasons. They want to own the media cycle, but you can only really do that when you are announcing something on a day nothing else is being announced though.

If anything, look at the difference in views from RE2 remake's announcement at E3 compared to RE3 remake's announcement during a state of play.

and

Its not to say RE2 remake wasn't a hype announcement, its to say when you are fucking revealing a title like this fighting hundreds of other reveals in a day, even a established world renowned series like Resident Evil can get lost in the shuffle.

If Sony doesn't want to pile on reveals against other reveals, I can't blame them. I do think they will have some demos and a few announcements, but I completely understand if they don't and want to have a random reveal to dominate the cycle.

You're right I guess. I just remembered though how much it sucked last year when PlayStation didn't show anything for next gen and we went through months without a peep from them. I don't like the silence. I think god of war would own the show either way but it is what it is.

I predict the show will be 60% Sony, 30% Nintendo, 5% PC, 3% Xbox and 2% Stadia. And every time anything Xbox is shown Keighley will snort and roll his eyes and try to hurry up to the next Sony reveal. This show fucking sucks because he is so insanely biased. He likes to parade the one time he put Shawn, Phil, and Reggie on the on stage together just so he can claim he is platform agnostic but he is full of crap. This show needs to be hosted by someone(s) who actually feels the love for gaming in general.

Breath of the Wild 2.

Please Nintendo, I've been patient. I'm even enjoying Hyrule Warriors. Just give me a small update. Anything at all.

Also I'll except all MGS games to come to current gen / next-gen consoles. It needs that at the very least.

I've seen a ton of people bashing Keighley and the VGAs lately, lol. Did I miss something?

I understand the VGAs are pretty cheesy, always have been. But it's the only thing we really have as fans of video games. Nothing else really like it, so might as well appreciate it for what it is to some degree, lol.

Geoff has not hyped it up much this year. Perhaps he's realized to overhype things

True.

I think the caliber of celebrities he's pulling this year is a good sign though...

So Geoff doesn't need to hype it up for me as I've set expectation levels to 11 all by myself.

I want a new Silent Hill, whether it's a brand new story or a remake of the original story. But I'm not holding my breath...

  • Kratos & Master Chief in Fortnite were meant to be held off until the show’s opening as a momentous occasion. PSN f**ked up and now MC is the only one they’re saving.
  • Scramble was supposed to be revealed in a similar way that Joker in Smash was, with the broadcast fake cutting out while Geoff was talking.
  • No More Heroes III is getting a full gameplay trailer.
  • RE Village is getting a full trailer showing “Chris”, actually some werewolf dude impersonating him.
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is getting a release date of February 12th.
  • Balan Wonderworld Showcase.
  • Monster Hunter Rise is getting a story trailer.
  • Crash Legends reveal, Crash Bash esque party game but with more variety in minigames.
  • Lego Star Wars trailer, shows off Legacy Mode, which enables the old grunts and sfx.
  • RWBY: Crescent Fall is shown. 4 player beat em up.
  • Scott Pilgrim Vs The World Complete Edition gets a release date. Scheduled for Christmas Day.
  • Something Kingdom Hearts related at the end. Yes. Its exactly what you think it is.
