While some of the side stuff got a little repetitive in the end, I loved this game overall. No other game has made me want to play around in photomode as much. I hope we get a sequel in a few years.
This thing is literally a stupid popularity contest, the idea that it is an outrage because people didn't scientifically honor the objective best game...
And who exactly are you to say what is the "objective best game?"
Incidentally, I have news for you, since you didn't understand the concept in my earlier post. ALL awards that involve a voting process are a "popularity contest." This includes awards voted by critics. Those are simply a popularity contest among fewer people, but no less a popularity contest.
Mainly FPS yeah but to me the difference between 30fps vs 60fps is a totally different experience. Also need to mention the fast SSD loading, I fast travelled everywhere I could without having to stare at loading screens every time.
eh. not really. TLOU2 was leading by a massive margin going into the final day when Neil tweeted about it to mock the game's haters and they all banded together here on gaf and on twitter to skew the poll.
Gamers who actually played both games chose TLOU2 by a big margin.
With the way you're taking this and how you have been reacting to everything coming out of Jim Ryan's mouth since the September showcase, I highly suggest you change your user name to something that represents you better.
Here's a good one that I think will suit you perfectly...
What are you talking about? Invalidating the list what? Calm down GOT defense force. You got the wrong idea.
The same above applies to you. You GOT defense force guys are really wound up. I wasn't trying to discredit your precious game lol.
It is sad that I have to explain this cause people take things the wrong way. I just found it funny that those games were on this list.
Geeeeeeeeez... yall need to take a chill pill.
I 100% stand by everything I said in TLOU2 OT and I'm happy to see it killing it the award season as it damn right should, but I think the player's voice award should represent universal praise - and I Ghost of Tsushima deserves it more than any other game this year. Even for Legends alone which might just be my most played & favorite DLC of all time.
You're the one bent out of shape cause you assumed I was trying to discredit your poor poor video game(and were wrong lol). You defense force kids/shills need a reality check.

A fitting game to win a people's choice award imo. It really didn't reinvent the wheel in the open world space, but checks many boxes to be a deserved msinstream success and comes off as a better crafted assassins creed game in many regards.
Playing it on ps5 in 60fps ads to the appeal. The free mp expansion is also appreciated.
Congrats to sucker punch. Wonder where they headed next.
looks like Miles, Hades and Doom had a 1-3 point swing in a day where as TLOU2 had an 11% and 14% swing. yes, that sounds legit.
Not saying its a hack since these polls are so easily manipulated by people who can easily just login and vote, but still disappointing since this win will be forever tainted and GoT deserves better.

The game is basically a better-produced Assassins Creed.
I see this as a response to controversies involving The Last of us Part II.
None of them comes close to my favorite games of the year, anyway.
I just wish that the reason for their win wasnt because 4chan got mad at a Neil tweet
Both SP and GoT deserved this win as a recognition for the amazing game that it is, not because of a controversy
I would have given them the award for their own merits, because out of those nominees, it's the game that I've loved the most this year (FF VII R is the real GOTY tho)
Hopefully next time SuckerPunch will make a game that's actually good on its own and doesn't need support from outraged gamers to be actually talked about.
I have to say, I'm so glad Ghost of Tsushima has won. This game was a piece of sheer brilliance and I loved every moment of it. Not only that but the multi-player is surprisingly solid too. The story, the characters and the design of the world was just beautiful. Whilst there were repetitive elements which Sucker Punch are likely aware of from their InFamous days, the island of Tsushima didn't feel like a chore to explore and there were so many stunning scenes and pictures that it was just awesome. My biggest criticism is that I fully levelled up my swords and bows by mid-second island so I didn't really have any need for the items to improve them after that. It would have been nice to have had extra weapons to choose from but I won't cry about it.
My issue with The Last of Us: Part II is that is committed a cardinal sin when it...
killed Joel.
The story of the first game was like part of gaming heritage with up's and down's that consistently tugged on my heart and at times even made me cry just watching them. Watching through Sarah as well as the brothers Sam and Henry's story was just gut wrenching. As a parent I felt like I was burning inside watching Joel hold Sarah and as a brother I felt that level of genuine shame that Henry must have felt in that moment. I think if it was me, I would have done the same. The first Last of Us game was a thrilling ride and amazing adventure that was better than anything that came out that year and I would argue the year after. Even against such tough competition like Grand Theft Auto V.
That first hour of The Last of Us Part II just killed any interest I had in the game. The reason I loved The Last of Us is because it was probably the finest narrative and the most gripping story that I had played for such a long time and left a longer lasting impression than Uncharted 2 - and I fucking played that game to death. What I sincerely hate is that it appears holding this opinion very quickly labels you as someone who has problems with transphobia or homophobia. I'm sorry but the story of TLoUt2 was a mess. For those who don't mind spoilers,
You fucking killed Joel. In such a shitty way too. The first Last of Us was so fresh and thought out, why did it need an incredibly cliche story that Abby's dad was a scientist that Joel had killed. They always have to tie it in some way like that and it's just really basic bitch story telling. It's his brother, it's his father etc. I don't care because I didn't go on that journey with Abby and her dad, I fell in love with Joel and Ellie. I don't care about Ellie's sexual desires, I don't care about the character who was trans, I got fed up of hearing people called bigot or how the game basically ticked every box in the diversity spectrum. It killed Joel and that for me was suicide. But what was equally as bad was how Ellie lost her fight against Abby, then she went home, fucked up her relationship when I thought the game was over to go looking for Abby AGAIN to find out that Abigail Schwarzenegger super solider was kidnapped by a bunch of bitches and now she's a stick insect! Then when we come to kill her, we don't have the fucking nerve and we let her go. I didn't give a shit about the Seraphites or the Washington Liberation Front and I had nothing but apathy when they were at war. I couldn't care less about Abby's friends. I actually got angry when they nearly killed Tommy. The story of this game was supposed to be it's unique selling point, it's what people loved about the first game and this time it was just fucked. There wasn't a political reason or statement behind it, it wasn't homophobia, transphobia, racism or whatever injustice people will try and label it, it was a badly designed story that made a very poor choice. Ghost of Tsushima was gripping from beginning to end, Part 2 was not. I believe The Last of Us first game is a better game than both of these titles, but pitting GoT against Part 2, it's GoT all day long.
It's not even like it's been a bad year for gaming. I've loved Demon's Souls and Miles Morales, I really enjoyed Nioh and Resident Evil 3. The length of RE3:R is the only thing stopping it being higher up my list. But the game that stuck with me the most, the I got the platinum trophy for and what I felt genuine joy playing was Ghost of Tsushima.
I liked Ghost enough. I'd give it a solid 7. I thought it was a better open world game then the garbage Ubisoft puts out. But still in the end rather bland. Combat was ok, but in the end rather restrictive like most of these Batman inspired games. The open world was pretty sure, but not really memorable outside of the graphics. Never felt like a memorable place full of neat sights or scale. And the story was just rather boring with a really lame lead.
Ok game, but nothing I really care about. Not sure Last of Us 2 should have won as I think that game is kind of poorly paced and the Ellie act pretty meh to, but it gets better and is sure something I think more about.
I hope you ain't lyin' cause I actually just added you.
You are usually cool and collected, hence I typically like what you say, but every once in a while, you just can't seem to help yourself but to act like a hormonal teenager!
And Jim (lyin') Ryan is PlayStation's Bob Iger. Guy is opportunistic as heck, but I am confident that the PlayStation division's profit margin will soar to unprecedented levels under his reign.

Why are TLOU2 haters so upset about TLOU2 winning another award to the point to create a mass campaign at last minute to make a game that they probably did not play to win?
I couldn't tell you as it doesn't really apply to me. There are radicals and trolls on both ends.
Again, I thought TLOU2 was a fine game, I just personally didn't think it held a candle to GoT. Especially in the replay value department, even more so when SP added the free DLC. I sold TLOU2 after being done with it, I held onto GoT.
Yeah Ghosts was my favorite game out of the choices presented.
Like I'm sure TLOU2 was better crafted and had a story and presentation that you hit you right in the feels if it's anything like TLOU.
But Ghosts finally giving us the Assassin's Creed in Japan (that Ubisoft refused to make) that we have all been waiting for really hit the spot for me.
In terms of gameplay, I would much rather run around doing standoffs, stabbing people, collecting powerups, and exploring feudal Japan than playing something like TLOU.
I understand you liked GoT...
I liked it too (even so it is not GOTY content imo).
But most votes from 4chan come against TLOU2 and not because they wanted to vote in GoT.
It was choose GoT because it was the closed to TLOU2... if it was another game they could had made that game win.

lol it's me. And yes, I am mostly normal. If you need help with Demon Souls, hit me up and you will find that I am as normal as one can be for someone who spends his days ranting on message boards.
TBH, I used to like Jim Ryan. His stance on crossplay and backwards compatibility made perfect sense to me and you will find my defending him going back to the old gaf days. Though beware of me using colorful language to describe Phil Spencer which got me banned for a good two months lmao.
I may go over board but i wear my bans as a badge of honor. I see so many people my age just resign to being a dad and boring, and I like that i actually give a shit about something so benign to go on a rant online.
