Did CDPR just...massively tank PC performance because of one wrong config file?

What time is it?

Maybe. I can get an education to fix my problem. Your issue is far more complicated

Tested this myself at 4k on a 1080ti and saw no difference, even checking between ultra and low settings. Checked it out at 1080p after, again at ultra and low, and while CPU usage shot up from about 25% to 50-80% (expected with the res drop), I saw no discernable difference in framerate between the original and edited files.

That said, we have seen potential config issues that affect specific hardware already (amd cpus) so it definitely warrants looking into.

anyone know if AMD smart access memory is being used in this game. seems like something that would help with performance in this game. nvidia also has something similar but I don't know if CDPR will be implementing it.

Yeah - having the option to potentially unlock your hardware to course correct a developer's oversights and/or shortcomings... what a flaw. Best to just live in a closed ecosystem.

This is a benefit, not a fault. Nobody is forced to do this if they don't want to.

PCMR forever.

Yeah, you just need to be a C# programmer for this option :pie_roffles: .

How many people ITT trying it out now are programmers?

100%, they are pc master racers after all :pie_roffles:

just to be clear, being capable of repeating instructions is not the same as being a programmer, felt like I needed to add this since people can't see to know what a joke is anymore :pie_roffles:

Not being naive whatsoever. I play mostly on PC and dont run into issues. My build isnt even top of the line. The only time I ever consult resources like that are for mods or trying to get something very old to run on modern hardware etc

Congrats brah.

Sometimes I think you like to just hear the sound of your own voice.

What was the point at all of your comment except to shill the PS5 in a thread that had nothing at all to do with it?

All consoles run like crap compared to PC and that's saying something as the PC version is full of bugs too.
Because the situation is ridiculous.
You should not have to change a file to say how much RAM you have in game on PC... never.

It is laughable.

And that has nothing to do with my voice or how the game runs on consoles.

Again as developer you should not need the end user to change a file to tell how much RAM you have... the game should auto decree all these things and run at proper settings.

I mean, this shit is unbelievable lol. PC is really for enthusiasts or computer engineers hahaha
Nevermind that modern consoles literally are nothing but out-of-date PC's in a locked box/walled garden. Anyone who prefers a locked platform where they cannot do what they want has got to be a communist.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
So I guess you aren’t playing on anything these days, huh
The XSX version is good enough for me. It just works. There are bugs, but nothing yet that prevents me from enjoying this game more than any other in a long time.

No shit really?

My issue with you is you go into every single thread and somehow try and make it about the PS5 or why a certain console is "better". It's a constant marketing blitz with you geared towards getting reactions scores.

This time you used the "This is why I game on console" tactic to garner your appropriate reactions while stating really silly obvious things, however completely ignoring it runs like a dog's breakfast on all consoles... with no recourse. It ran better on PC's even before this fix. I should know... I have it on both. It's brutal on console, however the only way you would know that is if in fact, you played it on PC.

Which you didn't.

Anyhow, I'm done responding to you.

Who's to say this isn't the reason it runs like shit on console? They use the same config file and I swear that PS5 and the Xbox SX have more than 3GB pools. As do the XOX and the PS4P.

My friend has the PC version, but he's pretty computer illiterate.

Think he might accident blow up his computer if he tries this.

Ok... pretty low end rig here. (old i5 + 8gb + 1060)

Noticeable improvement. Can drive around the most populated areas with a minimal stuttering here and there (i am locked at 30fps by the way).

I'm supposed to enter half my ram in the cpu pool section? Is that form or should I add more than 8 if I'm running 16gb of ram

1080ti - Don't notice any changes after trying this. But it was good before anyway. My GPU clocks and usage were always high.

RAM usage is just under 13GB and VRAM usage is about 8.5GB.

Think this one might be placebo, but if it did help anyone then that's great (y)

Gonna try upping the RAM mem_pool to 32 instead of 16.

Showed this link to a friend with a 1080, said it definitely improved performance for him.

I didn't read through the thread. I just wanted to add my experience. Changing those values, increased my performance massively. Load times are super fast, and the overall FPS has increased to where I've bumped up the FPS cap. It's crazy.

CPU - Ryzen 3700x
GPU - Radeon VII

This game needed another 6 months in the oven so badly. I can’t imagine what the state of it would’ve been if it actually came out in March.

Is it safe to tell a game to utilize all of your RAM and VRAM? Like shouldn't you aim a little lower?

About to boot up now. Just edited the text.

*fingers crossed*

Nope, not a goddamn difference for me. i7 6700k, 16GB RAM, GTX 1080.

you should be locked around 60 with that rig w / everything maxed except screenspace psycho to ultra

1440p (75% resolution floor) with High settings and it runs around 60ish (no frame rate counter). Looks fantastic, so no complaints for me, but if I make it run at native resolution without scaling it gets a bit too choppy for my tastes.

Did you run the exe as admin? I didnt see any difference either until I did.

Didn't seem to do anything, unfortunately. Tried both Pool at 0 and -1. Oh well! It runs well enough as is.

That exactly why I don’t like to play games on PC.

You talk as if the console versions were shipped at an adequate state. lol

This game needed more time in the oven. From all accounts it's a mess. To think all that crunching for the poor devs and this is what they made.

Yikes.

We can all agree that CDPR launched this game broken.

But the level of problems can be divided the in four tiers.

1- PC gamers with a RTX card, those players are for the most part having a blast, the game runs great even on the 2060, rarely the game crashes, bugs are incidental, also the funny type, some NPCs doing strange things or some routine in quests not engaging, usually after a quick load from a save will solve the issue. These are the people having fun and defending the game. Happily I in that tier;

2- Lower end PCs or even powerful PCs with older gen graphics card and processor, here you can slot the bulk of the complaints in the PC community, people that have powerful GPU's like the GTX 1080ti having poor performance, the popular GTX 1060 and RX 580 running the game like crap. The issue with Ryzens CPUs don't using SMT etc.

3-The new consoles PS5 and XSX and XSS, they are stuck with the BC versions, lacking a lot of features and not taking advantage of the hardware. At the very least they have a decent performance, better than most PC gamers funny enough.

4-The PS4/Xbox One crowd, at this point the game is unplayable, poor performance, horrible graphics, glitches, crashes, textures not loading and all sort of issues. Shamefully CDPR put a different embargo in these versions, to me, they lied to those gamers, always showing PC footage and hiding the state of the game in the last gen consoles.

That's why we see all those different opinions about the game, it's like a different game if you have the "right" hardware to play on.

Feel free to try the console version of this game and you’ll have second thoughts
From what I’ve heard it would play pretty good on my PS5 but I’m waiting for the PS5 upgrade in spring.
Thing is there are just to many combinations on PC to make them all run great. Obviously it’s not the power of the PC thats the problem.

That doesn’t make it even less bad... I mean how a Dev can do something like that.
