IGN: Xbox Series X Is Great, But It Needs Games ASAP

Series X is kinda collecting dust for sure when the competition has gems like Demon's Souls or Spiderman Miles Morales.

Who would have thought launching a next gen console whithout a single next gen exclusive could be a bad idea ?

The geniuses at Microsoft apparently couldn't figure it out.

Well, Demon's Souls (my GOTY), Spider-Man Remastered, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Astro's Playroom (fantastic), The Pathless and Sackboy that I'm playing now and is great.

2021 so far only has - Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus, Returnal, Horizon Forbidden West, Final Fantasy XVI, God of War Ragnarok, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Destruction All-Stars, Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo and Gran Turismo 7.

I'm sure Xbox's line-up looks much better, right?

Xbox lineup actually looks like it doesn't even try to compete right now. At least until their new studios kick in, but there won't be anything major before at least 2022.

There's still Gamepass, but there's no next gen game on it.

Unfortunately Phil Spencer did a terrible job managing studios for the past decade and it's gotten to this point. Unfortunately you cannot turn things around in an instant. He's obviously been on a huge buying spree to make up for lost time but many of those investments are still going to take years until new games are released. I think the best that he can do now is try and ensure that Halo Infinite doesn't turn out awful. Ideally, it turns out to be amazing but I don't think many have hope for that.

Xbox Series X just doesn't have the games I want. GamePass is great in theory if I owned an Xbox, but it doesn't cover many of the games I actually buy (day 1 AAA titles).

I just hope Phil's investments the past few years make the Xbox a great place to play exclusives in the mid to latter half of this gen. At that point I may jump in, but for now there's really no need and I think many people are in the same boat.

I mean, haven't we known this? Games are on their way, at least a few that I care about personally that will also launch on Game Pass. 🤷‍♂️

It does need Series X games, no doubt - not sure about ‘fast’ though...

Both launch lineups were utter shit. I’ve played more on my Series X since it launched though than One X and PS5 Pro combined in the last year.

AC Odyssey and Ori Will of the Wisps have been great experiences (I am convinced if Ori was on PS it would be one of the most talked about games on here - utter masterpiece), and I’m going to finally play Red Dead 2 next, and probably Borderlands 3 - mostly games I held off on playing until Series X. Oh and I will definitely play the Gears 5 DLC. When I open up my PS5 at Christmas (bought it myself but decided to wait) I’m going to play Ghost of Tsushima first (and, maybe, only until Ratchet).

Series X is great though, as they say - an amazing console. And not just the games. I watched Wolfwalkers through Apple TV with stunning picture quality and Atmos sound, and it’s replaced my Apple TV box as my streaming and Plex player of choice. Utterly silent, looks great and delivers in every single area except new exclusives, but they are coming I have no doubt. I can wait. There is more than enough to play until then. Very happy customer so far.

It has games, I'm playing the new releases on Gamepass. Unto the End, Morkredd, Call of The Sea, and all the Yakuza games. Also The Medium is coming out in January 2021. It is getting games, but Journalists.. .seem to be ignoring everything that is gamepass related most of the times. Or if its not God of War, or Horizon levels than it doesn't count which seems to be the situation with The Medium, and Ascent ?
GamePass is a scam.

Lol at the damage control comments here. As far as Scorn and The Medium go, these type of games always get brushed over. Same with Sackboy on PS5.

I'm switching around between my gaming pc and the xbox (some titles dont end up on the PC gamepass). The PS5 is gathering dust though after playing the Miles Morales, and Demon's Souls, also Pathless.
Lol riigghhtttt.

Who needs new games when you have 3 generations of Xbox backwards compatibility and the best value in gaming history AkA GAMEPASS?

Apparently people do indeed need new games, according to Xbox sales market share vs the competition.

The best value in gaming is just buying a PS5 for $399. It has the best games, including next gen games and next gen features like haptics, and performs a bit better while also costing $100 less with digital edition.

And you get 20 of the best last gen games for free with it, the PS+ collection.

It's hard to get better value than that.

Has this console even launched with a single exclusive game to that console? That’s quite bad.
No.

And that's what most people fail to see in this thread. With PS5 there isn't much either but at least you have 2 or 3 games that can be considered must-have exclusive titles for the system.

Overall its a bad launch for both consoles. Even if I could get a PS5, I don't think I'll get any new games and just replay my old PS4 games in higher quality until better PS5 titles drop.

They’re right but can be applied to next gen as a whole. Nothing on either system yet. Ya DS and MM but 2 short games isn’t taking up enough time to say there’s a lot to play.

Demon's Souls isn't short at all. It's the most next gen game there is right now and definitely a good reason to own a PS5. Everything is impressive in it (graphics, lighting, perfect smoothness, 3D Sound, instant world changing, haptics...).

I thought Ryan McCaffrey made a good point about MS bringing this upon themselves well before the Series launch.

This is the result of neglecting the portfolio that built your brand to begin with. Games take a while to come out of the oven, even in the case of PlayStation where we started to see the hits come in the latter half of the gen.

I like my Series X, but it’s not as captivating as it can yet be. GamePass is a nice stopgap, however.

Ya It’s a great game but still a short experience. You beat it in 2-days and you’re in the same position as XSX. Nothing there for both systems to hold your time. So I see them almost in the same situation.

As great as Sony’s IPS were this gen I probably spent 10 times as much gaming time with Xbox’s. Sony has a lot of one and Dones that don’t hold your time. That’s not a bad thing necessarily

My first Demon's Souls playthrough is around 60 hours, so it's definitely not short by any means.

If I remove every great Sony launch game (Demon's Souls, Mile Morales, Astrobot, Sackboy...), then yes I guess it becomes the same as the XSX launch which had zero exclusive. Not sure it's a great point.

Remember PS5 also had 20 of the best PS4 games included for free too, the PS+ collection (god of war, the last of us...). So that's even less close. Among those games are multiple games of the year, the kind of games you unfortunately can't find on Xbox right now . It may change one day with the new MS studios, we'll see. Meanwhile, if you want to play older games, those ones are mostly better.

You can prefer spending more time on you Series X playing older games, but according to console sales, you're in the vocal minority.

People love new shiny games with their new shiny toys.

I'd agree if I'd had an 1X or had been keeping up with Gamepass on PC. I hadn't so I bought one knowing I'd have all that to play as there's a ton of Gamepass games I want to catch up on, games I want to replay on there etc. Also ended up getting Cyberpunk on there as I wanted the 30fps quality mode option and glad I did as I strongly prefer that to the 60fps performance mode. It's a game where I want to go slow and take in the sites so the better resolution, graphics, denser pedestrian and car traffic adds more for me that 60fps. I've never bee that fussed about 60 vs 30 fps anyway. As long as the frame rate is stable, I'm good.

%100

I've been rockin Quality mode from day 1 on S|X and it looks-plays amazing. No game breaking bugs whatsoever, runs even better with the latest patch.

Stunning art design and a Goddamn achievement by CDPR creating insanely beautiful Night City. The content, SP campaign(top level writing), sidequests, gigs are surprisingly unique to eachother (cdpr's creative signature) are definitely worth your time and where the whole package shines.

Yes, you should stay away from last gen consoles, Don't even bother unless you have S|X/S or PS5.

How many of those are coming out in the next... 6 months? Or even 12?

we know literally nothing about most of those except a bunch of CG.

I dont care when they coming out, I dont care what you know and I also dont care if Phil announces them at home in his office with power point presentation. Hate it all you want but Xbox's game lineup is pure fire. Its the best on any platform period and I already posted whats coming soon. A storm is coming and this is one that you cant bunker down and ride out. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Look at the first row and then work you way down row by row. This is just a sample. :messenger_savoring:

Besides Motorsport have you seen any actual gameplay footage from any of these projects?. And to be exact when I say "Actual Gameplay Footage" I don't mean Computer Generated animations better known as "CG" for any of the above projects. I'm asking because I might have missed it myself and also because CG created by an outside / third party animation studio holds very little weight amongst a sizeable portion of core gamers.

Not singling you out for any other reason than you were last person I saw guilty of it.

I just need something explained to me, because apparently my logic (or lack thereof) just doesn't seem to work with the reality here at GAF.

Is Demon's Souls an entirely new game that is a brand new experience, and just the latest adventure in a long running franchise... Or is it simply a remake?

I haven't played the new one on PS5, but someone needs to explain the difference between this oh so great launch exclusive... and a game that came out in 2009.

While we're at it. Anyone who's attempting that mental gymnastic. Could they also explain to me at what point did Miles Morales become this great god tier launch exclusive rather than a simple standalone expansion?

You got me twisted with one of your people. I dont need to see gameplay footage of a game when its announced. I have never in my life seen a game release with out showing gameplay.

It has 99% of the games the PS5 has this generation, and it has far more available via BC which is actually significant this generation.

Where’s the same article about Sony and the PS5?

this thread, as always, will be a real hoot.

It's possible that while you're trying to quantify what Demon's Souls and Miles Morales are within the gaming space... You're missing the much broader and bigger picture. They are games built to give an early showcase what the console can do in terms of hardware and software.

Don't worry about whether Demon's Souls is a remaster, remake, dlc, or add on. Instead check your gaming channels, main stream media and social media and ask if both it and Miles Morales are helping to drive the conversation, build momentum and maintain that all important mindshare?

It’s literally a 2009 PS3 game with better graphics. Same gameplay. They used the same underlying gameplay systems and code. People are just pretending it’s a next gen exclusive brand new game because they want it for list wars, while saying that the 2 dozen Xbox one games that received a next gen patch to massively improve them don’t count because they’re “old games”.

The two consoles could have been 100% identical, with the logos being the only difference and people would argue their logos are better for console cooling and aerodynamics.

Console warz are hilarious.
