AC VALHALLA: same game as origins and odyssey. i wasn't expecting anything else but it's solid at least 8/10
CYBERPUNK: didn't cure covid: 6/10
performance and bugs aside. i've never seen people have this level of scrutiny in any game ever. sure CDPR is a victim of the hype they themselves created but usually someone plays a game and understands what that game is and what that game isn't. yet cyberpunk is deeper than the witcher 3 in almost every way and people are complaining about things they never even mentioned in tw3. and i like it.
every single "?!" in the map is a gig or a side quest and they are really good. better than any open world game to date but i guess i can't follow a random npc for hours to see if they go to the bathroom and wipe their butt so 7/10.
the game is a narrative driven open world rpg. this should be important. you don't compare a game like this to gta just because it is an open world. the same way you don't compare death stranding, mafia, la noire or horizon zero dawn to gta.
rockstar games have that lvl of random npc/police ai and side activities not only because they've been doing the same game for decades but because that is the game. without that there is no game. in fact i know dozens of people that buy rockstar games and never do the missions.
but i don't see people scoring rockstar games 6/10 because they don't have rpg aspects. or the side missions suck. or there is no player agency at all. mission failed, you ran too fast. mission failed, you ran too slow. mission failed, you turned left. mission failed, you turned right.
"oh well those are rockstar missions they are always like that what do you want? 10/10"
well from now i say we want everything in every game.
- your game has driving? must be at least comparable to forza horizon or 5/10.
- we want to enter every house. deduct one point for every house you can't enter
- we want full day/night work/life cycles for random npcs and i want to have meaningful conversations with every single one of them. and not one repeated line
- your game has shooting? better shooting than every other rpg? well it must be better than destiny or 4/10
- rpg? it must have more depth and dialog choices than an isometric rpg where there is no voice acting or animations at all or 5/10.
- we want to be able to sit on every chair and buy things from every shop or eat on every food stand or restaurant.
- main quests and side quests at least on par with a cdpr game or 6/10
- we want to see and move every single asset in the world like buckets in skyrim or 5/10 and npcs better react to that or 3/10.
- stealth you said? do it better than mgsv or don't even try.
- and we must be able to call every single meaningful character we want and hang up with them. talk about life. play minigolf. watch a movie. things like that.
add yours and let's push the medium we love the next level
luckily star citizen is trying to do most of those things so we have a masterpiece in the works
but i can't wait to see 5/10 starfield and 4/10 horizon forbidden west next year.
