Fable - Official Announce Trailer

How can one be hyped with a trailer with nothing?

Its has being long since I heard of Fable and this video only shows nothing but "it exists".

That’s exactly it though. Fable is huge for a lot of us OG Xbox fans, and the very confirmation that it exists is enough to get us excited. We went a whole fucking generation without a Fable game, which is criminal!

I want them to take their time and get it right. No rush at all. If they do that and apply the same quality control as they did with the FH games, we could end up with a Fable game better than anything before it.

Potentially setting myself up for disappointment, but as much as I love Fable 1, 2 & 3, they always had a toughness to them, but were carried by their charm.

After the frog ate the fairy I was left waiting for Shrek to walk into the picture and that Smash Mouth song to kick in.

I can understand the hype of the announcement, finally seeing that a new entry is being developed in a beloved franchise - however I don't get how people can say it looks *good* when we have literally seen nothing about the actual game. This also shouldn't have been in this conference, but one that discusses the future of the Xbox Series X closer to its launch. Showcasing games that are coming soon, games that are coming within the next year, and games that are a few years out.

That trailer showed us absolutely nothing... and considering that there is no gameplay, it's disappointing that it still manages to look worse than Horizon 2.

Since it came as the big reveal at the end of a lackluster showcase, they could have at least tried to surpass Sony with cinematics. :messenger_pensive:

I just don't get the hype behind this game.

Fable 1 was regarded a great new IP
Fable 2 was good not great
Fable 3 was considered to be bad
Fable Legends was so bad it got cancelled

Playground Games while a decent studio have never made a WRPG so we don't know their track record.

So we have a franchise with a spotty track record and a developer who has never made WRPGs.

Finally we have had no gameplay to blow us away and disregard our concerns.

Just seems strange to get hyped for this.

I said the same thing for Halo, 343 have had mixed reception with Halo 4 and 5. They messed up Collection at launch. Rumours of dev issues and director leaving. Yet there was still hype for Infinite. The. We saw gameplay and now everyone is dissapointed. So I think something similar can easily happen to Fable.

Microsoft have a history of hyping and not living up to the hype.

ReCore was hyped up with tagline from the creators of Metroid Prime. The first trailer was intriguing and the game was very far away though. Turned out it was a B budget game and didnt do well critically.

Crackdown was hyped with power of cloud, the destruction stuff looked very cool. It was so far out then game turned out to be crap.

It's just hard to trust Microsoft for games that are far out with no gameplay.

It's cool and I want more Fable and this excites me, but I wish they would have shown something of the game. Even a jumped up slice from a PC. I just want to know what they're offering in terms of gameplay.

Looks great. Can't wait to explore the world of Fable. My guess is Spring 2022/Fall 2022.

First game and the Jade Empire made xbox worthy in my eyes. Hoping 4 the best, but I have absolutely no good expectations unfortunately.

Action-RPG hopefully, they can still have the dark humor and all that but it can't be like how old fable games were. I'm fine starting a family, I don't know about the aging mechanic but I'm sure they will add that.

It's just Fable can't use the excuse of being a novelty game. Cause it was a different type of RPG compared to others. But at the same time, I didn't think Fable was better than a lot of RPGs back then and even now.

So I'm pretty interested in where they take it, I'm not a die-hard Fable fan i only played Fable 2.

They are probably already harassing the devs on twitter.

its fucking rediculous in this day and age that i could believe those shower o cunts over at Ree would actually do that...

anyways, i absolutely loved the Fable games when i had a 360, played them all to death, i hope they can capture the unique humour and gorgeous art style that made the originals such great games... man a new fable game running on next gen, that'd be a sight to see

Goddammit. I saw this topic bumped & thought there would be some actual news. But no, it's just the fact that this game is FARRRRRR away.

Anyways, enjoy my bump as well. I hope you are as disappointed as me.

Control was fairly well written I thought.
Lore in control was excellent.

Main story was a little lacking.

I really would have liked to see Jessie's first encounter with the slide projector in game. The description of what it did to her friend, and the gang of bullies was pure nightmare fuel.

Depends on the industry and location. I work in Sales and in the Bay Area 12-18 months is the average.

I've heard that, and I guess I do see that with some people at my current company. The "new" has barely even worn off after 12 months, but at least you're not responsible for knowing any tribal knowledge when you keep on the move like that!

A resume like that would be a huge red flag in my industry. No way would I invest in an employee that would just leave after a year or two.

Super excited to see what she can do with Fable though. I have a soft spot for that game and cant wait to see it again.

I felt that way when reading about the robot swarm feeding on a pod of dolphins in Horizon: Zero Dawn. The in-game reality of the machines' bio consumption method is much less crude than the text made it sound (ie. I really wanted to a swirling mass of dolphin milkshake, but alas fantasy de-molecularizer is all we get..)

I didn't play Control, but I did play Murdered: Soul Suspect, at least for the first 5-8 hours. Got tired of the gameplay. But from what I remember, the writing was fine. Some of the stories were interesting.

I'm glad they're hiring a professional writer with some experience. I guess that's the standard today in AAA-budget games, and that's a good thing. I remember the day when the programmers themselves used to write the stories -- not good, lol.

if my memory serves me correct but wasnt Fable a distinctly british humour type game, i remember it being funny as hell with an almost Terry Pratchett feel to it at times

I feel like "Lead Writer" is not really doing the storyboard, instead the "Narrative Director" is doing that
There are also other people in the writing team

It doesn't mean she actively left the company which had work for her. Writing is pretty much a gig unless it is a franchise with direct sequels that are worked back to back to back to back. I would look at this resume as equivalent to one for someone who has worked several projects at one company.

Yeah, writers are generally free agents, not long-term employees, so moving around every couple years would not be unusual. You're under contract, and when the project/contract is done, you move on to the next project, which is generally at a different company.

That makes sense. In that case being able to land that many gigs is definitely a positive.

Yes it had that particular atmosphere and I really liked it for that. I hope this game keeps that feel despite being by a different developer.

It's basically the closest you could get to a Discworld rpg without actually having the Discworld license.

An open world Discworld game would be so cool though. Ankh Morpork alone would be one hell of a location.
