So as many of you I've been busy playing Keanupunk 2017 and completely missed the Game Awards (random thought make the Game Awards should replace E3?)
anyways today i learned MS is forcing The Initiative to reboot Perfect Dark an overrated ok game from the 2000s its sequel was trash. My question is why go around poaching all this hot talent from around the world only for them to make a game from an existing franchise why not allow them to make something that they want?
It just boggles the mind, this is why their first party studio is shait they have clueless people making decisions. Been Xbox 2 gens now Playstation here i come.
first of all, Perfect Dark is better than 90% of today's shooters.
and second of all, Microsoft doesn't force anyone to do anything, which honestly can be a big issue for them.
look at Rare... they didn't want to do another Banjo jump n run so Microsoft just let them do whatever they want.
as a result we got the very controversial Banjo Nuts & Bolts (which is really good if you give it a chance) and the cortical and somewhat commercial success Viva Piñata.
2 extremely weird and experimental games with pretty big budgets.
but Rare fans weren't happy, not at all! they wanted Banjo 3, they wanted Perfect Dark 2 or Conker 2 (3)
Rare didn't want to make those tho, and concepts for some of these IPs either turned to dust or became stuff people hated like Nuts & Bolts.
Rare doesn't want to make Perfect Dark so Microsoft looked for people that want to.
and who better to make a sequel to Perfect Dark than the director of Resistance and Ratchet & Clank?
shooter experience, experience with cool weapon ideas and experience with adventure elements.
if anyone can do it it is them.
do you also think that Microsoft just one day went: "you know who would be the best studio to reboot Fable? THE GUYS THAT MAKE ALL THOSE RACING GAMES!"??? hell no, what most likely happened in both cases was Microsoft threw the idea out there of making a new Fable and a new Perfect Dark, two IPs that they neglected for a long time, and these 2 studios/people who work there then basically came forward and decided that that's a great idea for their teams respective projects.
