Right were on ladies and gentlemen.
New stock from Amazon from 22nd of Jan so any stealth revisions since launch have hopefully been made. Also it's an all digital edition. I'm an all digital gamer, thought the PSU strain might be slightly less and I have my Series X for my physical film media. Cost me £100 over what I sold my disc edition for, if its quieter will be so worth it.

This may sound dumb but i honestly think Sony did something with the software updates, either that or i got extremely unlucky.
I remember when i got my PS5 i was ecstatic on how quiet it was. I played Astro's for like 3 hours straight and it LITERALLY was "whisper quiet". I went onto Dead by Daylight and was in shock on how it made absolutely no sound, no coil whine, and you could only hear the fan when you were right next to the console. I was also bragging to my cousin on how you could barely hear it, compared to the jet engine that the PS4 was.
I thought how i got lucky to have the quietest fan and how i had no coil whine, but i swear after installing an software update it all went downhill. First the fan noise drastically increased, to the point of me getting my old PS4 Slim flashbacks. I open it up and it turns out i got the worst and loudest fan, even though it was insanely quiet the first week.
Now i open Dead by Daylight, and not only is the fan loud, but its coil whining like crazy, where i can hear it from the other side of the room.
I don't know what to do, i don't usually mind the noise or really notice it unless i'm playing with headphones or it's late at night and it's quiet in the house. It is super annoying once i do notice it, and then i can't help but focus on it, which annoys me even more in the process.
Don't wanna try my luck with getting another unit, as knowing my luck it's going to be even worse that this one, plus the main "warranty guarantee" or whatever is called is probably going to check my console and say that it's completely fine and then return it, as my country is pretty stupid in that sense.

Aw that's a nightmare. My type b fan in my last PS5 changed profile after 2 days, I think it may have been slightly off kilter.
Fan noise aside Mystic from YouTube speculated coil whine may be reduced/eliminated in the future via software patch (reducing the power draw of games, or something more technical that's beyond me). I've heard a Sony CS say that before too.

Haha cost me about extra hundred than what I already had. Worth it for a chance at a quiet PS5 lol. It's from Amazon last week so hopefully a newer batch. Got e-receipt etc

You are not kidding about the charger. I luckily managed to snag one from Best Buy about an hour after I ordered a cheap knock-off from Amazon. I returned the knock-off unopened.
Probably a good thing since the box for knock-off says that the charger is for a controller known as "P-5".

Yeah bud that's great in comparison to the PS Pro (even though I prefer my old pros fan noise, which wasn't as bad as yours) but when I have both consoles for multi plats I'd much rather choose the version without the background noise over pretty much any graphical differences

.I put my TV on like 7 and you can't hear the coil whine anymore, this fan you could hear from the TV being at like, 20.
Mine doesnt make anywhere near that much noise, mine you would have to go within a foot to no it was switched on apart ftom now and again when playing a game and ramps up when there a lot going on screen, but even then not to that level on yrs, my ps5 is first time ive had a noisy playstation since ps1-ps4 pro have all been quiet

I know this is as useful as saying to someone with a disease "well I don't have it so there's that" but my PS5 is still as good as silent while my PS4 could be heard whining from the next room over so there is hope to get a silent machine.

Silent in everything. You can *just* to say hear it's on in 60fps Spiderman on mute if you really, really listen for it.
I made sure to do all my tests before this post so I didn't come back with issues.
November the 19th I ordered my PS5 and now I can finally enjoy it. Too little data to read much into it but this is an all digital and only the second PS5 not direct from Sony "repair" centre.
First three had coil whine, fourth had an annoying fan profile, it was the type B fan (noise even in PS4 games where the other 3 with coil whine didn't).
Anyways this one from Amazon via ebay sold 21st January is spot on. Theres always a chance they have already made a stealth revision. If your not happy with your PS5 noise there is definitely hope. One big take away from this no one can deny is there is massive variance between units so if things like this bother you be forewarned... your in for a journey.

, i dont hold out for much from sony repair centre, although just sold my house and living back with parents now, till i find a new house, so cant even use my big 4ktv, now stuck with a 40inch 1080p cheap tv at there house, so as long as my ps5 bearable with headphones on will just keep it till get new house then hopefully new revised stock avaliable so will sell and buy new if they beter. Now holding off playing some single player games on ps5 as want to enjoy them on a big 65inch 4k tv with hdr, prob time for me to finish my ps4 backlog

With a new controller from Amazon came to £700. Sold my last one with a controller for £600. So basically the silent upgrade cost me £100. Worth it IMO

Boy what a ride that was for Hostile - I hope that one remains quiet. I'm happy my PS5 doesn't have any of the issues many are reporting. Dual Sense (both of them) have zero drift. No coil whine - in fact it's whisper quiet even when playing Miles Morales in quality or whatever mode. My disc drive isn't loud and doesn't spin up all of the time. It hasn't dropped its wifi connection once. I just hope it remains that way because the prospect of sending it in, even a controller, for repair sucks.

I'd feel better if Sony had better quality control. The coil whining systems should be a rarity not the norm with silent ones being the chase system. Other platform holders wouldn't be allowed to let this slide.

They're a rarity, not the norm. Only hear about it on gaming forums and gaming facebook groups. I bought a total of 6 ps5 consoles for me, friends and collegues and no one had a loud console or any crashes. Guess what? We're playing and not posting about our consoles

Don't forget therea just as many videos on YouTube where people have multiple units and every PS5 has Coil Whine to different extents. I just don't think we have enough data to make any solid conclusions yet.
