Mandalorian Season 2 | DIsney+ | October 30th

It all feels like fan fiction.
That's because it basically is fan fiction. Favreau and Filoni are the ultimate fanboy producers.

Star Wars is basically in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. Do something original like the prequels, get raked over the coals. Rely too much on nostalgia, get raked over the coals. Rely on nostalgia without interesting character arcs (the Sequel Trilogy), get obliterated by the fanbase.

Mando is a return to simplicity in the storytelling, which harkens back to the very beginnings of Star Wars which was already based on old west and samurai fiction. However, it also respects the Expanded Universe (now known as Star Wars Legends), which many fans have been enjoying for years. One of the big blunders of the Sequel Trilogy is that Kathleen Kennedy rejected all the potential source material from the EU.

I'm sorry, but it's just cool to see Dark Troopers on TV. A lot of us played Dark Forces back in the day.

'The force is female' - except when that female is conservative.
she went overboard with nazi and concentration camps part. that was the final nail in the coffin.

Pedro Pascal also went overboard with his Nazi and concentration camp Tweets.

Yes, but considering their boss is Disney, anyone with half a brain could figure the outcome of both their replies.

If your employer is a strict evangelical Conservative, then you should know what actions will lead to your termination and vice versa.

The termination is not about right vs wrong but about being a dumbass.

Her point isn't wrong though. Her message was lacking in sensitivity. She should have known that her political opposition would seize on her drawing a parallel between conservatives and Jews rather than the much more obvious parallel of the left to the Nazis--the irony being that they are frequently declaring their opposition to be the Nazis, but that's totally lost on them as I've come to find out (ie. Antifa adherents become totally confused when I tell them Antifa are Fascists).

I think the reason people are so drawn to this story is because it reads like Shakespeare.

1) Gina's Tweet wasn't partisan. Conservatives and Progressives both participate in the "othering" of political opposition to varying degrees. She makes no distinction of who she's talking about in her Tweet. However, everyone with their eyes half open knows it's an attack on the woke left because...duh.

2) Disney, a company in bed with China...muslim concentration camp China, finds her relatively benign Tweet "abhorrent". Thanks for having such high moral standards Disney!

3) How many examples could we dig up of high profile celebrities employed by Disney that made objectively more heinous Tweets that are still employed by Disney?

4) Germans removed Jews from their jobs before and made sure Germans villified them before spinning up concentration camps. At a certain point, the woke have to start asking themselves...

This is Alderaan getting blown up by the Death Star and then hearing people like you say "Alderaan was stupid. They should have known they were a target of the Empire."

Hypocrisy is the story here.

Good thing they did this because I felt like unsubscribing.

I wonder what they will do with her character, though. I hope she’ll be killed offscreen.

Dropped my Disney+ account. This is just the final straw for me on top of all the hypocrisy and shit this company exports.

Im the opposite
Haven’t watched the full second season and will signup to view.
I don’t even remember who this person is, but will be fun to watch knowing she’s been tossed away

And her being ousted after this tweet is just a cherry on top that make her point even more valid.

Oh, it sure does. I just wonder if anyone who needs to hear it will actually hear it. What do we do now? I'm inclined to cut off all of my business with Disney/LucasFilm/Marvel/etc, but what will that even accomplish? Even if you do the same, even if all of GAF joined, I'm not convinced that even a loss of a million subscribers would make any difference here. The real point is that another not-of-the-left person lost their job. This is beginning to become a weekly occurrence. What is the response that will be loud enough to halt these jerks in their tracks? I can't think of any.

This has nothing to do with her political choices. Otherwise she would’ve been banned ages ago.

This has to do with her being a full blown cunt on social media. Her point of view should’ve been managed better. Disney is all about inclusion*, and this woman didn’t fit their agenda with her views. And I’m with Disney.

*bigots, transphobes, antisemitism, and other hateful people NOT WELCOME

Disney execs should watch Return of the Jedi to learn about differing perspectives. It seems they are the hateful people from a certain perspective.

Explain, Pedro.

I'll wait.

I sincerely doubt there were masses of people worried about the fate of oh-so-memorable character of Cara Dune.
It's not that hard: Gina can't act for giggles, her character is not particularly interesting (and suffers from her performance imo). She can be written off in a single line and barely a person would notice.
And let's not forget that Gina just kept digging her own grave for months now. Free speech all you want but screaming ultra-conservative conspiracy theories on Twitter and Insta is simply not smart. I'm sure she'll end fine in some wrestling gig.

Don't hit me now, but I thought The Mandalorian was... good but not great? I mean, the style they made it in with more or less stand-alone episodes made it more like a series of set pieces where the story and characters never really took off.

You picked the wrong bear and should change your avatar to Winnie the Poo.

But you're cool with Muslim concentration camps and blatant (actual) racism?

Keep gaslighting.

No, I’m not. Grew up muslim myself.

Even though Disney shot a brief part of the movie there ( they shot in 20 other Chinese locations as well and just had to credit every location), no Oeigoers were involved. But Disney could’ve handled it better, that’s true.

But the Oeigoer situation goes deep. If you really care, you should basically stop buying clothes and electronics since most seem to be manufactured there.

When it comes to the Oeigoer situation: we’re basically all to blame.

I love all the white Knights in here cancelling Disney+ because of someone they don't know and never will know.

I don't care about Gina Carano personally - she could be a complete cunt, I wouldn't know. But how about you don't act obtuse about the situation, and refrain from throwing out labels onto people you don't know, framing them as illegitimate.

Disney also thanked the CCP in the end credits of Mulan.

Either way, you're OK with cancelling Gina but willing to look the other way with Disney. It just seems...asymmetrical.

Was it the CCP who allowed them to film in their country?
Are they not meant to thank them for shooting in their country?
You realise that every film ever thanks the country/government/state/province/suburb where they filmed right?

Classic corporate shifting of responsibility for abhorrent corporate behavior.

Corporation exploits terrible human rights violations to achieve incredibly cheap manufacturing and triple its margin while beating competitors' prices.
Corporation's deeds become known to the public and outrage builds.

Corporation: We also abhor these practices and wish from the very bottom of our hearts for it to change. But in order for this to change we must all unite together under the hood of Inclusivity. For we are all responsible for these abhorrent practices and inhumane conditions. Each of us shares a part and a burden in undoing this mess.
Corporation continues to earn triple the margin on the goods that people continue to buy while being outraged.
Corporation: You make us do these things!
Corporation fights back against political representative who introduces a bill to end the abhorrent use of slave labor, labels politician a racist, and has them cancelled.

Just having a little fun here.

I'm saying that the CCP participates in Muslim genocide.

You don't have to film in Germany and thank Hitler for letting you film there.

But let's focus on "Beep, Bop, Boop" in a celebrities bio.

No, but you'd thank the German government. The CCP is the government right?

Sub_Level

wants to fuck an Asian grill.
Having both a New Republic show and a Cara Dune show would've been repetitive as hell. And Patty's Rogue Squadron might be new republic too.

People dunk on Andor but at least its just one show consolidating the rebel experience into one thing. Nice and simple. Would be great to see a Stormtrooper perspective one day too, cuz Finn sure as hell didn't scratch that itch.

Can't feel too bad for this dumbass. Jon Favreau pleaded to the producers on her behalf to let her stay using his status when she first started making those controversial tweets about the masks. He saved her ass as long as she kept her mouth shut about politics. She knew this and still fucked herself over lol.

Who would guess there were so many people - mostly men - feeling threatened by an actually strong and actually independent woman speaking her mind.

- Women must be able to express themselves!
- No! Not like that! Back to the kitchen Gina!
