Anthem Next cancelled

Reads more like.

Disney would kick our arses for the state it was in.
Nah, I read it completely differently.
BF2 was mostly a functional game with a broken progression system.
Anthem was a fundamentally broken game with disparate game systems trying to function together on top of a skin deep hacked apart narrative and an unpleasant user experience. It would take far too much work to actually fix the primary game system, then the loot and progression systems, put the narrative back together the way they intended, and then overall quality of life improvements.

They indeed tried dozen of times to say they did were not copying Destiny instead when they basically rip off Destiny ideias lol

EA was always clear they wanted their own Destiny and BioWare was clear about watching Destiny close.

True. But what's funny is that according to Aaron Flynn, EA was actually very hands off when it came to the development of Anthem.

The only time they kinda intervened was when they noticed how much bioware was struggling with getting the games original engine to work and offered (note the word, at no point did EA actually tell them to use it) them Frostbite in order to speed things up (which made sense as the game had languished in development hell for several years at that point).

I think this was the wisest choice they have ever made about this game. Of course it would have been even more wise to not having it greenlighted it in the first place but this is EA we're talking about, they have a lot of money to burn.

Good Riddance, a shitty game that was doomed since the concept phase.

I guess DA4 is the last chance for Bioware?

They have been consistenly unable to produce decent games for a decade now, their management is rotten to the core.

EA needs to sell off Bioware. They're such an incompetent publisher when it comes to single player games I don't even know why they bother. Stick to FIFA/Madden/Battlefield/mobile bullshit.
Sell Bioware to Microsoft or Sony or someone who knows how to handle a sp rpg studio. Since the purchase multiple Bioware games have had development struggles and/or direction problems. One time? Blame the studio. Multiple times? That's just pure publisher incompetence and fuckery.

To think Quarian Lost Ark DLC died for this stupid game.

Makes me wonder if Cyberpunk will have a similar fate.

Terrible comparison. CDPR doesn't have slot machines disguised as games making billions from predatory microtransactions and C2077 was actually a content packed game no matter what the Youtube snake cunts want you to believe. CDPR partially made their name from great post-release support. EA is EA and gonna EA as long as people keep lining their pockets with mtx money.

At least the figured out how to put numbers on the other opposite side of the screen.

I sitll maintain that the core of the game was good and the entire thing could be phenomenal with some work. Very disappointing because by pulling this plug they also killed any potential of a sequel. Anthem will forever be known as a failure, too bad.

It wasn’t my intention to compare the two.

I’m just wondering if CDPR will have the intention, time and resources to fully achieve their original vision. At some point they’ll have to scale up development on their new games. And that means pulling staff from fixing and improving CP2077.

Anyway, back to Anthem....

This is absolutely insane. Holy shit the devs who crunched their asses off all this time only to see this getting the axe this way.

This is wild.

EA and Bioware management can go fuck themselves, seriously.

It sucks for sure. What a shitty situation. Who knows how many EA people were asked to stick around and fix Anthem, but there's no way it's all the same people. A small group was asked to basically fix the crap job the collective team did while the rest move on to different projects.

That's like being at work and there's a giant shitty spreadsheet 20 people had their hands in fucking around in the file. They bolt and you are asked to go through the file and fix their junky job.

I spent the time to download it off Gamepass. Flew around that very first part and it was nice. Then got to the home hub desuit walkaround part and kinda turned it off. Guess I can reclaim some SSD space on my Series S.

So Bioware has officially launched 2 major failures in a row.
Why are they still being given control over valuable IPs like Mass Effect and Dragon Age?

I mean Maxis was killed off with only one failed game without being given much of a chance to fix SimCity 2013, but Bioware fails two games in row, probably losing hundreds of millions in the process, and they keep rolling..

So, after taking $60-$80 out of peoples' pockets in exchange for a fundamentally unfinished and broken game...they (likely EA) ended development on a promised redesign to deliver the game they originally promised because they didn't see a way to maximize taking more money out of peoples' pockets? Got it.

Also, what makes this even worse is that Andromeda was essentially sacrificed for a game they eventually abandoned too.

This is just straight up laziness and greed. If a POS like No Man's Sky can be evolved into a competent experience by a tiny dev skeleton crew, it's mind boggling that a massive company like EA couldn't be bothered to throw the necessary resources behind this to fix it up and make it competent. The problem, of course, is that it may be that this game could only truly be excellent if it were completely re-designed (as it perhaps originally should've been) as a single player narrative driven game. The need to keep is as yet another GAAS game is probably why the disparate goals of Bioware and EA couldn't be reconciled here.

Cdpr releases a super buggy game gives everyone a refund even people that finished the game gets pulled from the ps store because of that and everybody crucifies them. Their reputation is ruined

Bioware releases a horrible game they keep the money and run while promising to fix the game. years later they cancel it without fixing it. In the meantime they released andromeda that everybody hated and still people can't wait to buy mass effect remastered and dragon age 4.

Then you wonder why companies treat people like shit. Lol

Too bad, I would have liked to see what the team would have come up with. I can't fault a company for trying to make something right after screwing up.

But I can blame them for not seeing it through especially after people have bought the product with a certain expectation.

Oh well.

Exactly
What makes E.A. think that DA4 will be better than the last two Bioware games?

Shame. Customization, weapon feel, flying and core gameplay loop was awesome. Music and visuals too.

Story was terrible, characters were terrible, hub city was beyond terrible, enemies
were repetitive and pretty boring. Not as boring as humans, but still boring.

So eh, I'm sorry for the wasted potential, that's all.

I hate those Unilad social media posts for Anthem. I hate those early trailers even more. They made the game look like something it wasn’t. It was just a bunch of good looking graphics that added up to be nothing. Nothing outstanding came from Anthem. It was forgotten as fast as it was announced. Everyone was watching when it tried to show off in a trailer and everyone watched as it failed to live up to everyone’s expectations. If DA4 isn’t good then I’m never owning another one of their products. Classic BioWare will be the only BioWare that I trust.

Man this is quite sad. I've played this game with a Bioware dev himself who was responsible for the UI elements back in December 2018 when it was in a private technical alpha. The combat, flying and visuals were super solid and very well done. Then came the game with very little content, meaningless loot system that felt very lackluster and then they started releasing updates here and that that improved the game here and there but it was still missing that one piece that made the overall gameplay loop and loot system satisfying.

Very unfortunate, this game had incredible potential. But due to its poor management from both EA and Bioware the game failed miserably and wasn't handled with care as if it was being made by a bunch of clueless college kids who just started getting their feet wet in game development. What a joke.

I am not really surprised by this and they got what they deserved as it pains me to say this because I really wanted and cared for this game to be good, but oh well. Time to move on, hopefully tomorrow's Outriders demo can shine some bright light among 3rd person looter shooters.

It's crazy that EA even gave this game the time they did to try and "turn it around" when its entire design philosophy was broken from the get go.

They didn't plan out how to monetize and ended up with a looter game that had shit loot/terrible monetization strategies, no idea how to keep the tail going on the game, and no idea how to improve the system without hearing from players and then going "Shit can we do that?" for two years.

It's crazy to me that this game got the chance it did considering it plays to non of Bioware's strengths (back when they were good). You'd think theyd keep pumping out Javelin "stories" that help flesh out the world and result in cool javelins to play as or something akin to Warframe but they just never seemed to figure out what the fuck they were making.

That's not what happened here. They were milking userbase as long as it was profitable and once it stopped they put the game on life support.

After a bit more thought, one other thing just occurred to me...if they've had a crew working on this, tinkering for over a year, why the fuck not release at least one more patch to integrate some or all of the presumed improvements? How in the hell did they tinker for 12+ months and have absolutely nothing to show for it?

That's unfortunate, I was interested in trying the reboot. I'll probably still buy the game sometime.

So I guess Marvel Avengers is next? I haven't seen a headline about that game since they dropped 2(two) Hawkeyes.
Avengers game felt dead before it was even released. Anthem lived for some time and had at least 1 semi big update xD which is even more humiliating when you compare the IP involved. Anthem IP was a 0 before its announcement, while Avengers name had all the hype in the world.

If they are going to go on with the IP they would be better off just going ahead with Anthem 2. I think the sequel in the right hands could be excellent but I don't think there will is a lot of nostalgia for the IP though so they would be better off focusing on mass effect.

I mean if that's the case we have to basically take THE most negative read of the events and see the posts about "we're working on these features" as purely fluff pieces, which is even more insidious and worse from Bioware than it is from EA.

Either way Bioware put out a shit product and then failed to support it even after being given time and supposedly resources to fix it.

The same mooks bitch about Madden, FIFA, COD, Battlefield, etc year after year yet still continue to buy those games in record numbers. Addiction is a bitch.

Yeah, I'm down if they will leave all the wokeness in the Andromeda galaxy and bring Colossus power armor to ME. Could be fun...

Wokeness? What incel Youtuber video did you watch to come to that conclusion? I guess a couple of gays and a black dude is "woke" now...you know, just like the trilogy.
