Summary of your post : make a proper console.max out that form factor by minimizing the bezels. so that the shape can stay the exact same and still fit in existing docks.
that's what they should do.
also joy cons WITH FULL SIZED STICKS! get rid of those god awful joy cons they have now!
edit: just saw that they're supposedly 720p... that is disappointing and doesn't give me hope that the new hardware is that much of an improvement in terms of performance. a 1080p screen would have been nice, with a mode that plays existing, unpatched Switch games in docked mode when using it porable. this would mean up to 1080p games in portable mode without any patches needed by developers.
but Nintendo is gonna Nintendo, so they will either do something really weird or they will just disappoint.
Its doomed.
The article creates a compelling case, especially as OLED 7inch rigid display prices have literally fallen off a cliff, combined with a more efficient panel that doesn’t drain the battery as quickly (they may not even have to increase battery size) - it’s a combo that sounds like a Nintendo wet dream.Summary of your post : make a proper console.
I still don't believe that Nintendo is going to put OLED in one their console.
but 720p is good for the screen size. 1080p will be overkill for the battery..i was hoping for 1440p in docked but this is great. cant wait to see Metroid 4, Breath of the wild 2, Bayonetta 3 and of course Open world Pokemon. Man the switch is looking great for Nintendo for the next 4yrs.max out that form factor by minimizing the bezels. so that the shape can stay the exact same and still fit in existing docks.

This. 720p for portable is okay, especially with longer battery life.720p in portable mode is great news: native res, better battery life, and barely a noticeable difference at that size if you add decent antialiasing.
Expect docked 4k to be using a reconstruction technique for sure, be it DLSS or checkerboard like the PS4 pro.
Based on what?
same thing has been said when the switch has been announced. Now it’s destroying everything saleswise.
Slightly bigger screen in same form factor, Oled, fix d-pad , improved performance in older games + dlss for 4 output on tv and I'm in
This is the DS play not the Wii play though.I love nintendo games.
But they cannot get consecutive success. Cause whatever innovation they launch gets stale by the time they lauch next gen of the hardware.
All the casuals they roped in due to wow factor abandon it in droves.
On plus side it motivates Nintendo to bring in new innovation after abysmal failiure.
Its a cycle of doom. The Nintendo curse.
didnt sony kill the oled in the revision. hmmmm, i wonder why.Nintendo might finally match the screen quality of the decade old vita
Based on Vita.Based on what?
How'd that work out for the Vita?
I agree with this because I like better graphics, but it is safe to assume that Nintendo will make it it's own way. I even like that more and more people enjoy switch and it's games "as it is".Needs to be at 1080p min and a more powerful system,
thus the Switch 2 that can play Switch 1 games.
I rather have it 720p better battery life..Man let's be honest, that 720p screen is hella disappointing.
you say you want better battery life then say you want HDR. make up your mind. HDR will annihilate battery life.I rather have it 720p better battery life..
do make it oled and HDR tho that would be sick..
why is it?Man let's be honest, that 720p screen is hella disappointing.
what has the screen got to do with dlss? it just means the hardware is rendering to 720p. if the console is docked the screen is bypassed. if the hardware can render a game at 540p then it can upscale to 1080p. if games can render at 1080p then it will upscale to 4K. if any games can do 1440p then you could play your switch on an 8K screen! If the portable screen is 720p you shouldn't be expecting a DLSS 4k upscale from the console docked.
it isn't. it's perfect for a 6-7" screen on a console that requires battery power.why is it?
In context, the closest pixel density you could get to that would be a 21.5 inch 4K monitor. 720p at 7inch, absolutely great.
I dont want to pay more than 350 for this. Why not both? With the technology we have today we can absolutely have a 1080p screen with more than adequate battery life. There's nothing wrong with being disappointed in a 720p screen. And considering they're talking about 4K while docked tells me that the system itself is capable (or should be) of more than 720p while on the go.
Most likely it is just upscaled 720p-1080p.... The article flat out says this model is capable of 4K resolution docked... That's a huge improvement, likely thanks to DLSS.
Why not both? It's 2021. Smartphone screens don't have a big battery life penalty for screen resolutions, especially with the new high refresh rate panels. No, it's not, it's a damn portable console, do you want good battery life or a better screen?
do you have something against nintendo, what they do to you that you see them as greedy. do you have it aready that you know the specs? Most likely it is just upscaled 720p-1080p.
Switch pro is max 20-30% faster than OG by knowing how greedy Nintendo is.
Anybody whom waits big improvements will be dissapointed
and what if it is? is that a bad thing? As I said. Nintendo is going to Nintendo.
No major upgrades. Only slight improvements.
Just like form the 3DS to new 3DS
Just like form the 3DS to new 3DS
Didn't Nintendo deny having any new Nintendo Switch model recently?
Which the DS completely wiped the floor with....Nintendo might finally match the screen quality of the decade old vita
and what if it is? is that a bad thing?
Edit: sorry for double post.
They said last month they had nothing to announce. If this isn't starting production until June then we won't get an announcement until Summer.Didn't Nintendo deny having any new Nintendo Switch model recently?
It's very likely to have upgraded internals as well, not just a new screen and DLSS.The news don't make much sense to me.
Why would devs have different devkits if the console is still targeting the same 720p mobile / 1080p docked?
"4K output" seems like the most irrelevant part to me if the console is still using the same old TX1 chip, even if it's the refreshed Mariko.
The TX1 from 2015 always supported 4K output. Nintendo just decided to adopt a HDMI 1.4 port instead of the natively supported HDMI 2.0. It's a worthless feature for a chip of that processing power.
So unless it has revamped hardware (which doesn't seem likely due to the same 720p resolution), the HDMI 2.0 output is worthless and all we're looking at is an improved OLED panel.
Try gaming at a native 1080p on a smartphone. The thing will be dead within an hour. Why not both? It's 2021. Smartphone screens don't have a big battery life penalty for screen resolutions, especially with the new high refresh rate panels.
Almost 100% sure there is, because they are sending out new dev kits. No need for that if it's just a screen upgrade.Wonder if there is a HW update besides screen.
Tegra TX1 only support 4K/30hz.The TX1 from 2015 always supported 4K output.
you cant get ps4 pro performers in switch form factor no matter what tech is available for $350.For me and many wicht high expectations, yes.
For anyone with a Switch already, probably not.
It is useless, but you can slap a stupid 4K output bullet on the box and maybe get a few people to upgrade. What is the name going to be? Switch XL? It better not be Pro. I fucking hate the use of Pro/professional for a fucking product. It is pathetic. What the fuck is a Professional console? Or a fucking professional phone/tablet. It is moronic. The news don't make much sense to me.

720P Nintenlol is just in time for the 12 inch retina iPad Pro 2021 mini led.
