Horizon zero dawn PC worth getting?

I typically enjoy open world games. Is it worth the 32$cad asking price? Coming from someone who usually doesn't like spending more than 20$ on a game.

I remember reading that it's been getting better with recent patches, but I'm not sure if there's still some love it could use to be on par with the performance of the console version. I've heard great things about the game in general though. Still thinking about biting myself.

I will say that people have told me that getting it on PC for less than $30 USD is an absolute must.

I didn’t particularly like it and I wish I had bought something else, but I’m in the minority. Your PC should have no problem handling the game at good settings though, even if it’s not as optimized as some other games.

What resolution is your screen/what res are you going to play at?

The biggest issue left is that it requires a lot of power to keep 60fps at higher resolutions, so I think if you have 3000-series and you are playing at 1440p or below then you are golden, whack it all up to max and forget about it. If you want 4K60 + max(ish) settings you need something a bit more powerful though.

For the money I'd say its worth it though, I paid £35 for it 18 months after launch and that was well worth it. I actually rebought it as the complete edition when it was £12 since it was the same price as the DLC on its own, so I've paid full price for the main game + DLC really.

They fixed most issues. Go ahead. Let them know PC ports are welcome.

Good point. I would like more Sony PC ports.

I will be playing on a gigabyte m27q which is 27" 1440p 170hz. Great budget monitor I must say.

If you'll like combat then yeah, you might enjoy it because the rest is meh. In my opinion it's an overrated game and worst ex PS4 exclusive to me.

I didn’t finish it on ps4 (pro) and feel the same way. I might come back to it on pc on 50 or 75% sale to give it another try just in case my impression of it changes.

edit: that said being able to aim with mouse would probably increase my enjoyment of the moment to moment gameplay

I managed to finish it at launch then sold CD later bought it on sale for like a pocket change but didn't finish it, couldn't stand lots of bow aiming on a gamepad, so M+KB should improve matters but I think this game is just not my cup of tea, although I couldn't say it's an awful game just boring one for me.

I played it on PS4 so I can't say anything about the port, but the game itself is good if you like open world games. Imagine a standard Ubisoft game, but with more plot, more meaningful side content, a lot of good ideas and actual balancing/polishing.

You will be golden then, you have freesync and gsync so you should just be able to whack it up and it'll be around 80-90fps at 1440p, according to benchmarks. Maybe turn a few things down and get closer to 170hz.

Open World gaming has evolved quite a bit since this game was developed, even at it's release it had some bad artifacts that made it annoying to play.

Also hunting the mechanical animals isn't always fun.

The story is the only semi-redeeming thing but only semi.

Games like this I'm fine with anything over 60. Only prefer the high fps over visuals for competitive games.

Seems this game is very hit or miss for people.

It was always evolved. Games like Gothic or Morrowind came out 20 years ago. Games like Stalker near 15 years ago. There always was much more sophisticated gamedesign out there, but unfortunately the industry copied Far Cry 3. Horizon itself is just a subpar game, i mean 2017 is practically yesterday, its not subpar because its old and games evolved greately. They didnt changed one bit, we're playing the same games right now as then.

I was hoping the mod scene for this game would take off more than it has. It seems Reshade settings and stuff like hair color mods are about the extent of things. There is a mod that fixes her fat face and boxer's nose at least.

Well in that case then lock to 60fps and scale the resolution above 1440p internally or add SSAA/MSAA to give you a super clean image + max settings.

J jaysius can be a bit of a grumpy, don't worry about him, he'll tell you everything he dislikes about something without mentioning any of the parts he did like. I do agree with what he said though :messenger_winking_tongue:

I platinumed the PS4/Pro version, I just picked it up on PC for €27 a few days ago.
I thinks its worth that price.

Sadly I do not have the hardware to do something crazy in the game, so 1080p ultra @ 60fps here.

Played the main game on PS4 Pro and enjoyed it a lot. Amazing atmosphere, great story and main character, the gameplay was fun and I loved to explore the world. It's pretty by the numbers regarding most systems, but that wasn't a negative for me.

Am playing the DLC on PC now and aside from the weirdly noisy vegetation, it looks and plays very good.

They fixed some of the performance issues I believe. It wasn't one of the better PC ports when I played with it. The graphics look great as another poster mentioned, and the story is decent. The gameplay for me at least got to be fairly tedious. I'd say the price is fair.

I was pleasantly surprised that it's entirely playable with mouse+keyboard and I never felt the need to grab my controller.

Why would you be surprised ? M/kb is infinitely better than a controller. Even for supposedly "made for controller" games, whatever that means (because everything you do with a pad you can do with a m/kb, but better). You can aim better, track enemies better, react better, move better, manage your inventory better. Its like most every other games. Theres a reason every console game has assists for every tiny thing - and its not because pads are so amazing at games

If you like open-world games it is ace. Combat is very rewarding and contains a lot of skill moves, hit-boxes are very precise and physics real (so you can bounce grenades off backs of dinos or roll just between the legs of big dinos without being hit).

The main story is fantastic - make sure to listen and read all things you find.

Only downside for me were side quests that are generic and overall nothing special.

The controls and enemy designs are great, acting is poor.

The game is great if you are into open world type games, it has a similar structure as UbiSoft titles.

Photo mode, but the game is seriously impressive at 60fps+

I loved it, and the PC issues have been ironed out, but the combat gameplay is polarizing. Some people hate the lack of power and impact behind the arrows in this game. Don't expect there to be a mega arrow that you can super charge to one-shot a piece of armor off a dinosaur. It's best to just rapid fire arrows at the same body part.

Its a really good game, completed it on the PS4 Pro. If you haven played it and have an opportunity on PC, id say go for it.

However i didnt find the locations of the game particularly memorable, and weren't too distinct from one another (besides the obvious, like desert, snow...). Only the underground bunkers offered something refreshing.
Final battle was great and it prepares you well for Forbidden West, should you be looking forward to it.

If you have a PS4 download it for free this coming Monday (Apr 19th), if you enjoy it buy the superior PC version.

Except you have the super charged arrows who strips even more than a single piece of armour with one shot (if you spec the apposite bow around them), they are called tearblaster arrow and if hit the right point it's stun-fest with some dinobots...

Rapid fire work on normal\hard, on ultra hard if you don't know weak points etc you are royally fucked.

It had some problems when it launched but they patched up pretty much all the issues.
It's a good version of the game.

It looks pretty and the characters/world is interesting but Christ the gameplay is boring as hell. Go some place, cutscene, sit in bush, lure enemy to bush, watch enemy stand right in front of you, press X for insta kill, repeat for next 40 hours.
