The problem here is that we will only play Halo and FH5 this year. What if you don’t like first person shooters or racing games? I think MS needs a more diverse output this year, can’t have another show that ends with gamers waiting for another year after being quiet for half a year.

If there were no 3rd party developers then this would be an issue. If you don't like fps or racing, you can play one of the other 100's of games available on the platform.

I’ve said this before I think, and know I’m in the minority, but I don’t want to see extended gameplay, ever - I don’t understand how that’s such a big deal for some people.

I want to play it myself, not watch someone else and have large sections spoiled for me. Give me a great trailer that tells me what kind of game it is, shows me the look and feel then make it good and I’ll buy it.

Big fan of Arkane, as well as vampire mythology, so that's great.
Starfield is an obvious win.

Forza Horizon , Flight Simulator, Gears Tactics, Medium, The ascent, Halo Infinite, and Cross fire X. A good year, but not a great year imo. Hopefully next year will be better and I understand games couldn't make it out this year because of the pandemic.

Horizon blew up in popularity and Forza 7 was super stale. GT Sport dunked on them bad with esports and new ideas. FM7 didnt even get an expansion and Turn10 went all in on a new engine and game.

If true, it would probably not be Kojima's fault. He had a very good professional relationship with House and the past management, but rumors say that the relationship with the present management isn't good, and they rejected his game (like Stadia). Microsoft, on the other hand, is trying to scrape everything to gain some attention, and that would be a great opportunity to get the attention of Kojima fans, in addition to the likely great buzz that his next game will bring. If true, it would show some really stupid blindness by Sony, in contrast to last management.

This seems fairly realistic so I'd like it to happen, but I'd also like them to embrace wireless VR in some function too. Series having Wifi 5 limits them somewhere there compared to PS5 (which has Wifi 6) when it comes to bandwidth, but that's what compression is for and some wireless headsets like the Rift 2 (I think) have a lot of localized processing handled in the headset itself, alleviating that situation some.

Pair that with a console port of Half-Life Alyx (maybe even a timed console port exclusive) and that'd get the ball rolling. Still though without a dedicated headset or funding put into 1P content targeting VR that would keep them behind Sony on that front, but at least they would be supporting VR in an official capacity on console.

I know they talked about wireless VR in the past. Maybe they will surprise us. It does sound plausible that a headset that does a bit of the "thinking" on its own should eliminate some of the data transfer, I have no idea how much.

What are the specifics of the PS5/XSX WiFi anyway? I know that both Wifi 5/6 have a range of performance depending on the configuration.

However, I feel that if Fable OR Perfect Dark they show gameplay for one or the other alongside a new IP gameplay that would be enough for me personally. I don't think you need all the games right now to be fully showcased. Many of them are still years out.

The problem is people trying to act like mgs 2 sons of liberty was a multiplat release when that is 100% not the case. It was a ps2 exclusive and the substance variant was a shock to all when announced, it was not foreshadowed.

Never forget that most titles today are multi-platform because of opportunity cost. Its a no-brainer to spend a modest amount in order to access a wider audience.

Back then the systems weren't nearly so similar technologically, so there had to be an actual reason/desire to have the game ported to another system. It wasn't cheap and when you're talking about porting onto a brand-new platform as Xbox was back then... a quite significant investment for uncertain return.

That's the only reason why it was unusual.

Its always about economics.

For sure. Outside of Zenimax, Microsoft has had a bunch of studios for 3 years now. Personally I feel like there is zero excuse to not have actual gameplay to show for Hellblade 2, Everwild, one of the Forza franchises, State of Decay 3, and whatever it is that Compulsion is working on. That's in addition to the obvious expectations of Halo Infinite and Starfield. Their other studios get a pass because they did drop some games not long ago or are preparing to. Like Obsidian, Inxile, and Double Fine. Mojang I would imagine will announce some kind of new Minecraft as well. Outside of those first party studios there should be a couple third party deals they show off.

Preparing something for E3 has to be fine tuned and polished. It takes months away from ACTUAL production work because the vertical slice, demo, whatever, is often a WIP that will change quite a bit when it comes to actual shipping. This mattered more when demos were made for E3 instead of just trailers now, though. If they decide to make something for E3 that's great, but it's likely they've only been out of pre production for maybe over a year. Factor in covid and you don't have a lot to work with.

Yeah, they finally did a couple of things right with Forza 7 but did far more things wrong.

Forza Horizon is apparently the top dog in racing now, as it's topped both Forza Motorsport as well as GT. Will be interesting to see where they all go from here.

"Playing the game" doesn't mean playing some vertical polished slice. It could literally be anything like prototypes in grayboxed areas or testing out the character controller and seeing some of the direction they're going. This was early Feb 2020 prior to the reveal in December 2020. If it was so far along wouldn't they have shown more then...? If not, then why not this E3..? Doesn't seem like it will be, so it's obviously taken time to spin up and get things in full swing.

don’t agree with not hard to top horizon. GG are at the top of their craft from a production standpoint. Topping that level of talent and resources is difficult, being next gen exclusive doesnt solve that

for instance my expectations are not nearly as high for Starfield, it’s just never been in Bethesda’s DNA to make something look like that, which is fine

I’m mostly wanting to see good looking and fun playing games but they don’t need to be earth shattering necessarily

ex: Returnal was fantastic but graphically it’s impressive but not necessarily UE5

As for "real arcade racers", give me an example. If games like Dirt 5, Forza Horizon 4 or Wreckfest cannot scratch an arcade racers gaming itch in recent years colour me bloody surprised.

If true then it’s definitely looking promising. Starfield, project dragon, omen, fable 4 and avowed. Glad MS is now going big on rpgs. Hopefully they all support robust modding like past elder scrolls games. Never been so excited for MS since they shut down ensemble studios. Glad they are back on form!
