Mark Cerny platinumed Returnal

how does he find the time and reflexes to platinum games at his age?
Read the GI interview - he's been doing this since arcade games first came to market. "A middle-aged man excels at a skill (that doesn't require physical strength) he has practiced since a teenager" is hardly anything to write home about now is it?

yes but the platinum requirements for most games are really tough, even though say the normal playthrough of returnal may not be. 🙀

Not really.

12% means it's mostly just sticking with it and a little skill. Other hunters have commented that it's actually vastly easier than their last three games.
But that’s a 12% rate among profiles that have been updated on PSNProfiles, largely trophy hunters. The platinum rate for all players of Returnal on PSN is 1.3%.

It's so funny that this guy looks like a psychopath. I love that.

Wow. How can he find the time? That is insane time management that he can platinum this game with someone at his position. Unless he got “very early access” ofcourse.

Maybe he can help me locate log 9 because it’s the only trophy I’ve needed for weeks.
Depending on how things break for you in this game the plat could be anywhere from a 7/10 and 30-40 hours or 10/10 and 70 hours. Good for him
Same. That damn log 9!

Fair enough, but that 1.3% is balanced against every PSN account on the network, a vastly higher number than what you'll find on PSNProfiles. 1% for a platinum for a game that isn't intentionally easy is pretty damn high when you count literally everyone.

The difficulty is not the problem here. It's the randomness and the element of luck that is the biggest hurdle in getting the platinum.

The things you need to collect to platinum the game may not even appear in your world, and you wouldn't even know it unless you have explored every room.

Trophies don't go up on PSN until official release.

Incorrect. Trophies are loaded to the network a bare minimum of 2 weeks before release, but the publisher has the option to not make that public up to 48 hours before official launch. The game will still record trophy data to an individual console before it can be officially synched. This is why many AAA games have several simultaneous trophy unlocks recorded within minutes of release, people who had played the game in advance synched their recorded data. it's a real problem for release day trackers, since anyone could claim they got their game early for any reason.

I've gotten enough games early from Amazon to know this shit won't go up until its released. Yeah you can get a localized set of trophies but you won't pop them on PSN until the game is live period.

That's literally what I just said.
Being accessible, "on the network", and being able to successfully synch your local data are two different things.

Well idk why you're trying to argue my original reply because in context of what I'm responding to, you're just saying the same shit with extra words bro.

That’s exactly why you would think someone as organized as Cerny would avoid like the plauge.

I think we are basically saying the same thing. The rate will be much higher on PSNProfiles because that website contains mostly trophy hunters. But it doesn’t give an accurate picture of all players of Returnal.

But I wouldn’t call a 1% platinum a high percentage personally. It’s pretty rare. I don’t think Returnal is a very difficult platinum, but I’d imagine the grind is off-putting to most people.

Sony know he is seen from the Sony base as a kind of second messiah. Free Pr with just a tweet ....and in fact there's a thread about it ;)

Possibly, but in a world where video games seem to be run more and more by suits - it's great to see someone from that end who actually plays and loves games like we do. It's similar to the vibe given off by Phil Spencer when you think about it.

Rocket League's platinum takes about 2 days of casual playing to unlock. You don't have to be hard into these types of games to get it.

Respect to Mark for platinuming Resogun and Cuphead. And Returnal, of course. Takes some dedication to get the rng trophies.

He has 35 platinum trophies. No he isn't.
I consider myself a hardcore gamer and I have 5 platinum. 35 is not more hardcore, it's more completist. If not, you couldn't be a hardcore gamer before trophies were implemented? So, if you play now the Ghost & Ghouls remake and get the platinum you are a hardcore, but if, as myself, you played the original at release with no platinum involved are you a casual?

Platinum is a time consuming. I prefer to play more games than grinding to achieve a trophie.

Platinum trophies don't necessarily represent how good of a gamer you are or how much time you spend playing video games. You can keep picking super easy platinums and have 100+ of them and you can play big & tough games and only have a few plats in your collection.

I'm slowly moving away from trophy hunting myself. The grind to get the last few trophies is too much in most games while there are other untouched games I could be playing in the meantime.
