Reboots are sometimes done to inject life into a dead or struggling franchise, sometimes it's done because if a significant change in game design, sometimes it's done without logical reason, and sometimes it's done by accident and the game just turns into a reboot.

Generally though the gaming industries track record for quality reboot games is spotty. I think I might be a tad too generous here by only using the word spotty.

I've found the most talked about disliked reboots in the industry. Which do you believe is the worst reboot game of all time?

What exactly constitutes a reboot? It has to be more than a game in a franchise with the same name as the first. God of War on PS4, for example, is a sequel to the other God of War games story-wise.

As for the question, I tend to avoid games that get destroyed in reviews and public perception. From what I hear, Sonic 2006 is pretty bad. I'm not sure if that's a reboot either or just another mediocre 3D Sonic game with that name.

Are Like a Dragon and RE7 reboots? What about RE4? Just curious, as I know those are all good games.

Tomb Raider 2013 was good! Lol
Turok 2008 was pretty disappointing considering how much fun I had with the n64.

Neither are the worst on the list.

Hmmm... in terms of quality or in terms of setting the IP back? I voted Star Fox Zero as it checks both those boxes.

How is Tomb Raider 2013 even on this list? Some where annoyed by what it wasn't, but it was a well made game. I enjoyed it back in the day.

It's not on the list, but Descent Underground. Holy shit, what a clusterfuck. I think it actually got pulled down from Steam. This was peak kicksploitation era, a no-name group of devs who bought the Descent license and made an extremely mediocre multiplayer game while promising a single player component that never came.

Shadowrun was pretty bad. Not because the game itself was the worst -- it was okay, or would have been if there were players -- but it was the exact wrong way to relaunch that particular IP, and it ended up doing more harm than good. It was also a $60 multiplayer shooter with like 5 maps.

Although I think it's an interesting game and I sometimes defend it, Underworld Ascendant is also probably part of this conversation. That game at launch was like barely even a game.

Bomberman is the only right answer.

I mean, just look at this:

Syndicate was a quality, stylin' FPS :lollipop_smiling_face_eyes:

Alone in the Dark '08 is the worst game I've ever played. It's weird and risky and ambitious, and also it's terrible and I hate it.
100% agree! it had some good ideas, but holy shit was it awful.. I got the 1000/1000 BEFORE they patched the car shit in the game. I think this is one of the games where I went "Maybe I shouldn't give a fuck about achievements anymore"

I went Bionic Commando. How forgettable and so unlike the original.

Close second was Castlevania Lords of Shadow. No one asked for that, and to boot it sucked ass in every way and didn't even come off like a Castlevania.

Metal Gear was a fantastic top down arcade style game that was simplistic and used story as a set dressing. This was before Metal Gear Solid, which became wholly slef indulgent, overly complex, more of a movie than a game, and ripped all of it's ideas off of MG2. Fuck off Kojima, you hack.

(I love MGS)

What was your reaction when they said it was the best selling game in the series?

I picked Turok, even though its not the worst game on the list. I was a mega Turok fan though so the letdown was big lol.
Also i dont think Twisted Metal was really a bad game, in fact it was a pretty challenging and fun game. It just felt a little dated.

Definitely starfox zero, that game is pure shit, should've named star Fox zero quality

The best of the bunch is dmc, people hate it because of the new Dante, but that game is in fact stellar

Voted Bomberman. I could see what they were trying to do with it, but that doesn't excuse them trying :messenger_grinning_sweat:

There's some legitimately good games in the poll tho. Twisted Metal was an awesome, if somewhat dated, release in the series*. The E3 announcement with Sweet Tooth on stage in his van is still a highly memorable moment for me.

*When the multiplayer servers worked!

Bomberman seems like the obvious answer, but Sonic 2006 purely as a bad game is in a league of its own compared to the rest of the list.
