Show me the exact moment you felt that Videogames had transcended into a higher form of Narrative Medium for You

Alot of Great examples in here, I just wish most people didn't list entire games but that moment they were awestruck. Also, the trolls 🤣 I see you.

Well, with The Last of Us I cried manly tears at the end of the prologue when Sarah died. Troy's acting is just sublime.
I did the same with the remaster. My younger (31) year old brother downed the controller and went to pretend to look for something in some drawers.

That was me at the end of MGS 3 when Eva talked about the real plot. That salute and tear was me feeling exactly what The Boss was feeling. Only I literally bawled afterwards in silence. Now that was powerful.

FFX ending was like saying goodbye to a good friend.

Heihachi Mishima is actually dead. Fuck you Namco. Trying to kill him off since Tekken 5. Although Tekken has never had a decent storyline but still. Heihachi is Tekken.

MGS1 was the first time a game could visually tell a story in the same manner a movie would, but Shadow of the Colossus to me was the first time the medium itself was used to tell a story using all its strengths, from the visuals to the music to the gameplay. Shadow of Colossus is a big deal in the history of videogames.

I know that you really just mean tell me what games you think are the best, but to answer the question that you actually posed (if a little cryptically) of 'when did they become your favourite media:

They haven't transcended to anywhere. They aren't better than other forms of media to me. I still watch films and TV/streaming shows. I still read comics and manga. I still read books.

And I enjoy them all equally. I also tire of too much of any of them equally. Sometimes I don't want to interact with media. Sometimes I'm up for using my imagination to fill in the details of world. I can just as easily stay up all night engrossed in a good book as I can binge watching a TV/streaming show or playing a game.

Yes there are plenty of movies where the protagonist is part of a kingdom and later finds that kingdom is evil and joins a rebel group and builds an army and goes in war with the kingdom the protagonist grew up in.

However back to OPs answer what makes this story more effective in a videogame. To personally build your army, talk to different characters, see your castle expand and have tons of dialog. Recruiting with loads of side quests, upgrading armour and weapons starting small to become a big army. That feeling is just different in a videogame where I feel it's hard to capture in a movie. A TV show does come close due to a larger runtime across episodes. But things like upgrading armour and weapons and walking around your castle cannot be done with TV of film.

I saw the spark with A Link To The Past (SNES)

Then Link's Awakening on Game Boy (original B&W version)

And so many others sparks since then.

But one memorable "recent" was Journey aka "This is pure Art"

Tell me when gaming reached a “higher form of narrative medium.”

*posts a Forza racing montage*

Might want to go back and understand context mate. Subjectively and first of all its not a montage, secondly its literally letting you play out a narrative of passing seasons/events as an introduction to the genre as a form of moving time and the exciting things you can do in a massive sandbox. You probably won't understand. Lastly, I was off the feeling we will never see something like DriveClub ever again, this game gave me that comfort that there are better things out there. Why did you also ignore my first video?

25 years later kiddie Nintendo is killing all competition.
Not sure your point. Switch is definitely doing well, but let's not act like Nintendo consoles have been doing that great the entire time since PlayStation entered the scene.

The top 5 best selling home consoles consists of 4 PlayStation consoles and one Nintendo console (although, Switch and PS5 are both almost guaranteed to take spots in this list eventually).

In that time period they’ve had N64 (mediocre sales), GameCube (bad sales) and Wii U (so bad it’s a miracle the company even survived).

this attitude that Nintendo just has to do their
Nintendo thing and they are destined to succeed and prove all the haters wrong is just ridiculous. You have a pretty short memory if you really believe that. Nintendo is just as capable as MS/Sony (or more) of fucking up horribly.

Mine's a little different but Manhunt on the PS2 was my first stealth game which I ended up loving the genre. Remember being freaked out by the devilish guy in your ear egging you on to commit these brutal murders and getting more and more excited the closer you got. Then howling delight while you're doing it. If you wore a mic you could say things while hiding to get peoples attention. I remember walking through parking lots and fighting the impulse to duck behind cars to avoid being detected. Fun times!

Honestly, Botw though it can go further. The completed freedom after the start allows you to create your own unique story. You can beat it after 20 minutes or after hundred of hours.

You can be a 5 year old or a 60 year old.

Spoilers for FF9. Easily the greatest moment in gaming for me.

This game made me cry a lot of tears when it ended.

I played it as a kid. Despite looking like a game for kids, this game is deep in its narrative. It tackles the meaning of life, friendship, and how memories of the past are important.

Another masterpiece which transcended the medium.. :)

Game that you cant post on reset era :p

Now my serious entry -

:)
