Well first off, it's not on life support because SR3 and SR4 failed.
Second, there are also a lot of people that love SR3 and SR4. It's not like all fans want it to be like the first two games.

These devs just don't fucking get it. I hated Saints Row 3 and 4. They just can't stick to a coherent vision for the game. Saints Row 1 and 2 nailed it. They had the right idea then and should've just built on top of the world they created.
How fucking hard is it to see what worked, go back and expand on those ideas. Surely they must have the hard data on hand to see the series falling from its high in the first two entries.
Then you have to question why its falling out of favour with gamers.

Thing is, these devs probably aren't even the same crew from the first two games. I think those guys/gals have moved on from the company.

That would explain the trash games after the first 2, especially story wise.

From the data we have, 3 and 4 were successful. If anything, the reason it's being rebooted is because it's probably new woke devs working on this game and you know the characters and the humor of the OG games won't fly with them. Just like many of their ilk, they like to ruin old franchises with their politics and shitty self insert characters.

The irony is Saint's Row is a game about gangs. I know devs have to be somewhat mindful what they put in a game, especially since gang life in the past was generally portrayed pretty explicitly... but this doesn't capture gang culture in any way, shape, or form.

I guess the closest we'll ever get to that is GTA San Andreas and older PS2 and PS3 era stuff.

I just can't believe they expect us to believe these god-awful characters are in a gang. Looks like we'll need a reboot of a reboot when this SJW era ends.

Part of me is just kinda annoyed too how they have a shirtless hot dude, we all know how it'd be if he was a woman people would be flipping out about the game '' oversexualizing women ''.

The main protagonist in particular it felt like they were trying too hard to make her look '' strong '' in the trailer and it kinda just made her boring to me.
Even the black guy with the glasses had more personality in the short scene he was in than the main protagonist...
Just looking smug and beating people up doesn't make you a good or appealing character.

It reminds me a little of how Disney treats female characters nowadays it's so obvious what they're doing and feels so unnatural.
