I hate Hollywood. I cannot watch a trailer anymore without thinking is this really the movie or is it going to be bait and switch and Neo will be side character in his own movie?

Looks ok, so far. I like NPH but somehow he does not belong into the Matrix universe for me.

But, I will wait for reviews, just to be save.

What I usually fear with these semi reboots is having to wait for the characters to catch up to what the audience already knows (if they watched the previous movies).

There better be some interesting revelations about the Matrix and other big actors in that universe for it not to feel like too much of a rethread.

Yeah i was thinking that because we know what Hollywood is like with older actors and reducing their roles in action films, but Keanu and Carrie Ann both still look really good in this trailer so hopefully they are still the main actors.

I just hope this turns out good. The whole 'He's a videogame developer and the first 3 Matrix films were videogames he devloped' angle comes accross really annoying lol.

Definitely. Morpheus is arguably even more iconic than Neo and that's in large thanks to Fishborne, so seeing him replaced by a younger actor sucks.
From what i understand, the time from the film being greenlit to production starting was quite short by Hollywood blockbuster standards, and i'm guessing thet they thought there wasnt enough time to get Fishburne into good enough shape before shooting started.
I agree with what you're saying though, and its the same with Agent Smith for me. How can you have a Matrix film without Agent Smith.

Huh, just read Fishburne wasn't even asked to be in it. That's a pity. He was easily the best actor in those films.

That looked like absolute trash to me.

Seriously, it legitimately look like it's either a Chinese knock off of the Matrix, or a fan fiction movie sequel to the original trilogy.

I was super excited at first, especially after reading some of the possible storylines they're exploring - but after that trailer, I'm uber skeptical and likely just going to stream it online and save my money.

Just rewatching old Matrix trailers and how they approached it back then, you can see the huge disparity in style, mood, and tone with this over-the-top borderline spoiler filled trailer that's suppose to be a direct sequel set in the same universe.

This is the Birds of Prey: The Emancipation of Harley Quinn of the Matrix trilogy, is what I'm saying.

I know Keanu is the internet's hot crush (unless you're hating on Cyberpunk) but he is a shit actor now. He just goes into the film and plays Keanu instead of the actual character. Same stupid hair style, same emotionless expression, and same deep edgy voice. Dude's been phoning it in and he gets away with it cause the internet can see no wrong in him.
Was he ever a good actor? His only character that somehow feels different is Ted from Bill & Ted. Oh, and Dog Boy in Freaked.

It looks like the rebooted Matrix at the end of the trilogy, just without Sati's coloured sky.

I'm talking talking about the colors--which I do like. Just the overall look of the trailer is "cleaner" than the teaser clips made it seem. It doesn't look bad, but it looks more like 2020 era film than the gritty Blade Runner look of the teaser footage.

I'm still super excited. I've watched the trailer more than 15 times already!

Not having Laurence there is kind of jarring. I won’t be able to view this film with out thinking about how Laurence would have been in the Morpheus scenes. Also it looks too colorful. I thought the real world was kind monochrome too, I know they had filters on for real world vs matrix.

Why was there a blue haired twitter user in the trailer?

Gives nothing away except loads of action so it's hard to have an opinion really. It hasn't made me excited or less excited, just kind of waiting for summat different?

Always thought the most interesting premise for a follow up to the originals was a 'what if' scenario, in that Neo originally refused to take the Red Pill and walked away from Morpheus & Trinity

..and now we catch up with Neo, 20yrs later to put it right.

What does forced even mean? One of the worst buzz word criticisms on the internet these days.

The whole premise, setup and chosen actors for the cast feels like WB just wanted another matrix movie without thinking maybe we can make something smarter in the universe and not go down the tried and true Neo route. The fact they specifically show Blue Pills, and a lot of the same intro shit as first matrix, makes it feel like those are in there so people recognize its a matrix movie making it feel forced.

The beauty of the first matrix movie is it was a enigma, you had no clue what the movie was about from trailers. once you go down the rabbit hole with neo everyone is surprised and excited for the possibilities that can come from having your mind freed.
This literally just hits you with all the same imagery to let you know its the matrix, its literally called Matrix resurrections as we know Neo died at the end of the third film.

Whole movie feels forced. Would rather they went with Animatrix type of intro/story and we know nothing of the character and slowly again go through the realization as movie goes on that nothing is real.
Dont even call it the matrix. I feel that would have been the big holly shit moment by the end is connecting it to the matrix by the character meeting neo on the street and watching him super jump a building, end credits.
Similar to the ending of Split where we see David Dunn at a diner, who says one line.

To me thats why that movie is great on its own outside of that one scene you had no clue of its connection to M.Nights Unbreakable.

Its a shame about the film being on HBO Max day and date. It would of been pretty interesting to see how much a new Matrix film could grosss in 2021, opening weekeknd and total gross.
Also if this film is the first on a new planned trilogy, i hope having a lower cinema gross because of HBO Max wont have an effect on the future films being made.

Looks OK. It doesn't seem to be giving away too much, which I actually like.
Not having Fishburne when Keanu and Carrie Anne Moss are back is a bit jarring. It's like "the original cast is back!!.....and also a dude doing Morpheus cosplay!".

Why was there a blue haired twitter user in the trailer?

Because it's 2021 and you are required by law to have a "badass" female character with dyed hair and a side shaved haircut.

every trailer nowadays is 90% slow motion and some waaa waaa song on top

It looks very strange to me, but its The Matrix so could be on purpose.

Also, a young Morpheus?!

Surely Fishborne is in this at somepoint right?

Tbh im thinking this is going down the Marvel road, lots a characters, splintering off into their own stories, multiverses etc

i mean you cant REALLY tell if itll be a good movie from the trailer.... but the action looks on point

I was always there for matrix 4, and so far it's surpassed the low expectations. at least its not Sonic's "redo the main character" level

So you'd prefer a remake instead of a continuation?

It's a franchise, of course they want people to know it's Matrix, doesn't make it forced. That's like saying a Star Wars trailer is "forced" because you see light sabers, laser guns, X-Wings, Gunguns or Ewoks. Or a Transformer trailer "forced" because it shows a transforming vehicle.

Comparing it to something like Split is a bit silly as well. That movie cost 9 million to make so it could take the risk of a surprise. This movie probably cost 150 million or more so Warner would want to ensure a return on investment. Look at past original sci fi films with big budgets and how often they fail. It's a risky genre.

And we have no idea what the story is and how these characters are back. How can you call the unknown forced?

I had low expectations and I was still disappointed. If I go to the movies in December it'll be to see Tom, Tobey and Andrew, not this.

Cinematography did not impress. Action heavy trailer. That's all I can say right now.
edit: So much digital compositing...

The text on the wall says "DEUS MACHINA"

Nicely done.

Isn't Deus Machina
the video games developer Neo works for?

And are those meant to be contemporary shots of him in the birthing chamber? I guess they must be. Are we really going to repeat that again?

How is it having a random character who comes to realize they are living in a program doing a reboot? It;s like you never watched the movie a referenced? Which was not a reboot?

Am I the only one who thinks the whole premise of this one is silly concidering the ending to the trilogy?

What ending?

The Matrix just carries on as it always had, only with the machines promising to free anyone who wants to leave. That's it. That's the only difference.

Yeah not feeling this trailer at all, not sure what it is. Looks kinda like a knockoff, cashgrab type movie. Will wait for user reviews before watching.

Report me if I continue to console war
Dam, that trailer certainty presents many questions.

My guess is, that at the end of revolutions neo was in custody of the machines. In order to control neo the machines decided to delete or surpress his memorys and insert him in a new individual virtual reality.

It makes me wonder why the machines did a shared virtual reality for all the humans, I guess maybe even the machines dont have the orocessing power to do an individual virtual reality for all there human batteries.

Another thing I notice is that the way its shot looks more personal and a little less grand. It does not have the very high quality and high budget look of the original 3. Does anyone know what the budget for reserections is?

Overall this could either very good or they could ruin it.
