Arkane: Redfall Playtest Image leaks

Yep. I believe Dishonoured 2 under-performed and Prey certainly under-performed. Deathloop being a timed exclusive was clearly a decision to offset its development cost, and a multiplayer looter shooter comedy gothic horror open world MTX immersive sim game sounds something designed purely to be a revenue stream rather than coming from a place of passion. Hopefully once these two are done we'll see Arkane making something inspired.
Arkane's games don't sell well at all and it's a damn shame. Deathloop looks like it'll be the next one to sell like shit.... it'll probably review well, so hopefully that helps.

I know most people in here are console warring, but this thread is a prime example of why studios dont really show off games anymore when early in devlopment, and we just get cgi trailers.
And you cant blame them really. Long gone are the days we used to see games from varying stages of development, and its a shame really as i'd much prefer seeing early gameplay over cgi bollocks.

Looks like an early build and it will improve eventually. Hope there is a third person option too.

According to some additional details, it will have a third-person mode option as well.

Thank you for reminding me of Replaced again. It looks so good!

Replaced is personally my most anticipated 2.5D game for 2022. Not like there's tons of them coming out, but even for those over the years very few are doing the type of visual effects that game seems to be going for. Plus it's got a Blade Runner/cyberpunk-like vibe going for it which just makes it even better.

Then don't show anything. Don't announce anything until you have a near finished product. This is an issue across the spectrum. Sony, Nintendo, Xbox - All three have done this countless times.

The game looked generic and forgettable as a CGI trailer. As its early access/early development form, it looks even more generic than the trailer made many believe. It could be a great game at launch, but this game should not have been shown off to the world until much, much later. We would not be seeing the amount of disappointment and understandable frustration we are seeing if this wasn't shown off as a major exclusive title at the end of a press event. If this was the first time we were seeing it, people would be far more amenable and you cannot honestly deny that being the case.

Sure thing. It won't change much more:

It will look like this at release. Right...

Exactly. Common sense is somewhat required here. This footage is super early or those markets wouldn't be there lol. Game sounds like it will be incredible.

This is Arkane. If you know their games, you know. They have amazing attention to detail in the structuring of their game worlds and their gameplay. This game is going to be fucking sick when it's ready for its big coming out party.

Arkane level design and gameplay is so good. Add in a bit of systemic gameplay (which you can see hints of in the reveal trailer using abilities with your teammates) with coop and I think it'll be a banger. Let's wait for a full gameplay reveal. Surely will be something at TGA if it's slated for next Summer (which could be September at the latest)

Different teams technically, though they do collaborate as needed. Arkane Lyon and Arkane Austin worked together on Dishonored part one, but Arkane Lyon was mostly responsible for Dishonored 2 while Arkane Austin built Prey.

Redfall is being made by Arkane Austin (the team behind Prey). Deathloop is by the Arkane Lyon team (the team behind Dishonored 2).

I'm not too worried about anything. Their talent won't suddenly change.

Sucks when a game gets crucified so early. Will wait for Arkane to officially reveal the gameplay and I bet it will look better than these screenshots.

You do know theres plenty of hands-on previews to read for the game, right?

https://www.neogaf.com/threads/a-ton-of-new-deathloop-previews.1616699/

I am well aware, however the vast majority of those previews linked are from people/sites/sources that are as trustworthy as your average Era/Twitter user - aka not at all. I will hold off and wait to see what actual trustworthy folks have to say before I buy into Deathloop.

Talent will change when they are forced to do things they don't want/start to leave the company, which is one of the big points in the video.

Who are these trustworthy folks, (just so I can be in the know)?
Depends on the person. For me, they are people who I respect and trust to provide unbiased reviews/releases. ACG (Karak), Civvie11, GmanLives, MaximilianDood, PeanutButterGamer, AntDude, SomeCallMeJohnny, HappyConsoleGamer, etc. Streamers, Youtubers, they tend to be far more honest about the games versus most of the "mainstream" gaming "journalists".

IGN, Polygon, Kotaku, PCGamer, RockPaperShotgun, etc - all have proven time and again that they do not care about games, gamers, or quality. They will shit out whatever they want with a disregard for any basic journalistic integrity or quality control.

Though there are definitely some you want to be weary of. Folks like Jez Corden, GameXPlain and the like - blatant console warriors/platform shills who have as little integrity as the aforementioned shitstains above.

James Corden is a comedian ....

I'm not concerned lol. They won't suddenly suck because Microsoft has them.

The build is probably a few months old so I don't know why people are losing their minds about the graphics. But the fact this game is due to release in about a year from now makes me think it won't look that much different.

None of what's been presented is at all in any kind of acceptable quality to ascertain graphics quality. That said, playtesters don't necessarily need to be playing the latest version of the game from a visual standpoint. The fact you even see scripting, game design related markets should tell you just how early this build truly is.

Also, considering I love Deathloop's visual and graphics style, and Redfall is going to have far more interesting locations and environments, with what I can already tell is a more appealing art direction, I have no doubt as to how good this game is going to look.

Also, SIX characters? Redfall has confirmed 4 hero characters. But if they end up having even more interesting characters with a nice story to tell, then even better.

What the hell are you talking about? This has been an ongoing thing long before MS purchased them.

You seem to have no idea what I'm saying. I'm pointing out that the same talented team is still there and hasn't gone anywhere. Nothing has suddenly changed about the talent and skillset of this team after the Microsoft acquisition. Stop trying to find drama where there's none.

Are you so daft with your console warring that you think that this has anything to do with the MS Acquisition? MS has literally *nothing* to do with the ongoing troubles with Arkane. The problems have been ongoing long before that buy out.

Good job, you've made the ignore list. You're so desperate to start a console war argument that you're doing that crap that all fanboys tend to do by claiming that a proven and talented studio, suddenly after acquisition (I know exactly what you're doing so you can stop claiming the statements you're making have nothing to do with the recent Microsoft acquisition when it has everything to do with it), is now no longer the same despite zero evidence backing that up with the quality of their releases.

Undermining what they can do while now under the Microsoft umbrella is the clear purpose and goal of your statements and the statements of some others. It's no different from the desperation shown by people who started pointing to that small multiplayer passion project from ninja theory as evidence that Microsoft was already forcing them to make smaller multiplayer centric games that are cannon fodder for game pass, thus moving them away from their usual style of singleplayer project.

I, and many others, discussed the problems and rumors of Arkane long before the MS acquisition. You are the one who decided to bring that into the discussion in the first place.

No where did I state that they are no longer the same, only that the rumors and evidence suggest things may not continue to be as they were with previous entries. Y'know, healthy skepticism something you seem to fail to understand.

You are the one so desperate to turn this into a console war incident and then project that infantile failing onto others. Seek serious help.

yeah after giving that a small listen and a review of their twitter TL I'm good on not giving any attention to this Sophia person

Not a fan of actual journalism, eh? Maybe Era is a better fit for you, as you seem to struggle with accepting different opinions and views.

This sounds kinda rad to be honest. Borderlands style open world co op with Arkane immersive sim sensibilities? I am into that. And I wasn't to sure based on the reveal.

Screenshots aren't great but they're also internal pre alpha shit.

Guys, no need to be so harsh.

This is how games look during early development. This is why when they announce a game that is far from release they normally show a CG, some cinematic or a target render instead of normal gameplay, because the game still isn't ready to be show publicly. Looking like this is normal, the final game very likely will look way better.

Perfection.

In all seriousness the picture is probably a placeholder, and god knows how old the build is. But seeing as this game probably started dev for the xbone and PS4, I am not expecting anything more than a highly polished cross gen open world 60hz game. Nobody else should either.

But, reading the snippets of information in the era thread has me looking forward to this. Everything sounded pretty fucking great. Plus it’s Arkane.

I'm optimistic for Deathloop because of prey mooncrash.

Don't think we know enough about this game to make a call on it yet but I still hold out hope that Arkane will surprise and stay true to their formula despite it being in a genre that I'm typically not a fan of. They do emergent gameplay better than anyone else in recent memory so it will be interesting to see if they've found a way to make that carry through to a game focused on co-op rather than make a reskinned destiny/left for dead clone.

Ah that's why it's next-gen only because it's a polished cross-gen game... I understand
I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic or not. But seeing as this started development a few years ago, I would bet money that this was originally planned for everything pre acquisition

Unless of course you think that they started making the game last year

People are being too harsh with this game. I don't think it has a big top tier budget either, so what if the graphics are more in line with "Deathloop". It could be the case, and it would be totally fine. I mean, isn't most important that the game is good? I remember people loved Left4Dead games, and those looked like ass!
