Hello,

Today I used the report function three times.

1) For a person that compared the pressure of being anti vax to the jews being followed in the second world war ( https://www.neogaf.com/threads/covi...fauci-edition.1608887/page-231#post-265134179 )

2) The same person for calling for violence and people that want a vaccination mandate to be culled the next day. Yes those are this person's words (https://www.neogaf.com/threads/covi...fauci-edition.1608887/page-231#post-265134287 )

3) A different person in a different thread insulting people as idiots, dumb asses and people that can't read ( https://www.neogaf.com/threads/the-...ng-black-friday.1624941/page-3#post-265135071 )

And what happens? I get a warning and three points for using the report function while those posts still stand?

I hope this is a single moderator that is doing this and not reflective of the entire moderation staff who are doing this hard work voluntarely?

It would be very much appreciated if the moderators could look into this. I don't want to cause drama, but since I can't see who is handing out these infraction points I can't talk to them in PM.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

Mods aren't your private security OP, either engage in a discussion with the user and try to get them to see your side or throw them on ignore.

I understand that, but we as a community are better than anti semitism and insulting each other or wishing for someone to be culled aren't we?

Have you guys even looked at those posts?

I feel like you're targeting someone you disagree with about Covid and vaccinations.

No. there are plenty of posts that disagree with my stance on vaccinations and I have never reported any of them (I don't report someone who doesn't want to get vaccinated), but this is about calling for violence and anti semitism. There is no way Neogaf can stand for this

Okay. You're upset you didn't get the outcome you wanted then.

report the post, put the user on ignore and move on with your life. they will take out the trash if and when they need to.

its not your job to moderate the moderators. what youre doing here itt is more for yourself than it is for the community.

I don't understand. I am not jewish. It wasn't a personal thing for me

If you have a question or concern about moderation then I suggest just messaging EviLore EviLore or another member of staff. They will be far more helpful and will likely explain their reasoning behind the decisions.

Not to mention it would be far more constructive and less damaging compared to what you have done to yourself by making this thread.

Thanks. I appreciate your post. I wanted to talk to a moderator, but this website doesn't let you see who is handling your reports. It just said "The Moderation team"

That is not true.

Although I don't agree with the views of the first two posts, and agree the third post was unnecessary, I don't believe any of the posts broke the terms of service.

I know, but by messaging Evilore or another staff member you can get a new set of eyes or perspective on your issue. Or maybe even luck out and get the person who was handling your reports and get their perspective directly.

Both outcomes are better than making a thread publicly complaining about the staff. Which is not only going to ensure that your perceived issue is not addressed, but could also lead to more actions against your account. Not to mention the ridicule you are gonna be getting now because of this.

and yet...

In all honesty I just want Neogaf to be a better place where I can report people that call for violence and anti semitic remarks and not being the one who gets punished for calling it out and reporting it.

If I am out of line here and those things are actually fine, then I have to wonder where is the line of what is okay and what isn't.

Neogaf is way more thick skinned and open minded than many other communities and that is great, but calling for people to be culled?

No worries I can take it. If my accounts get banned for this then at least I know I tried to do the right thing of pointing certain things out. Thank you for your words. I appreciate your calmness and reasonable nature.

Ultimately it is up to the moderation staff and whatever they decide I will accept it one way or the other.

Report 1: Comparing and contrast. Apples to oranges. There's nothing to see.

Report 2: Mob incitement is bad. Unless they're actually doxxing, it's the internet.

Report 3: You're a snowflake. It's words. If you're easily offended, just mute the poster.

I don't understand. I am not jewish. It wasn't a personal thing for me
Here's the problem. You're being one of "those" allies. Being offended on behalf of others. Did you not see all those BLM "protestors" are a bunch of white shitheads causing trouble? Did you not see all those trans "allies" pushing for dumb pronoun shit?

It's absolutely bad to be racists, -phobe, etc., but you're not helping the cause by mass flagging and lecturing everyone that "we should be better." That is both condescending and extortion via guilt trip.

People should stop saying you belong to resetera and all these stuff, this only promotes Resetera. Yes there is a lot wrong at Neogaf. More wrong in Resetera. Here is a point to consider.....there is a sticky about console warring which I really like....it wasnt before. Which means something was wrong and then the course was corrected. So yes people can criticize action of the mods. That being said telling mods that they are not good at moderating is likely going to earn you a ban. So write a good constructive criticsm substantiating your claim and possibly a solution to Evilore. Other than that you are beating your head.

They should get rid of the report button. And if you don't like what someone says tell them that or move on and forget it. I have never touched the report button, and probably never will.
It is still an important tool, especially for the moderators. There is a huge range between "if you don't like what someone says" and a violation of the forum rules. It is not always black and white and sometimes things need to be reported.

I could see it is someone is posting pornography and violating the TOS, but this thread is pure cringe.

I just meant it is not a good idea to get rid of the report function entirely but you are right that it should be used responsibly.

Wikipedia definition: "Antisemitism (also spelled anti-semitism or anti-Semitism) is hostility to, prejudice towards, or discrimination against Jews."

Unless I'm missing something, I don't see how the "offending"/reported posts are anti Semitic, at least going by Wikipedia's definition.

As for the third reported post calling people names -- report that, put the user on ignore, and move on.

This thread shows 2 things:
(1) as the content in the original threads was getting dangerously "political" in nature, it shows that the decision that Evilore and the staff made to nuke the Politics section of the forum was a FANTASTIC idea. Politics -- as it exists in 2021 -- in general is poison
(2) that the mods potentially took the correct action by not initially or quickly banning the poster who made the "offending"/reported posts. Again, the anti Semitism claim may be at best subjective, at worst incorrect.

Had the mods taken quick action without review, it would set a dangerous precedent. Today would have been those posts; what about tomorrow? What if someone decided to report, say, the Butt thread? Are the mods going to nuke that thread immediately, based on one person's sensitivity/hurt feelings towards the butt thread? It's a bit of a facetious example, but the point is that -- as I've said multiple times now -- GAF's biggest strength is its freedom of speech (within ToS constraints, of course).

I lost my keys and compared it to the displacement of Aboriginals in Australia.

I often compare not being allowed a parking spot near the front of the store as a greater struggle than Mandela.

Britain's Got Talent is more culturally relevant than the Nuremberg trials.

People who litter should be harpooned like the Japanese do with the whales.

Being stuck indoors during Covid allowed me to understand Hitler's last days in his bunker.

Yeah I think I've only ever used it once for an account which was just making spam posts. I don't think it should be used for stuff like in the OP, at least not in that thread which is pretty much NeoGafs Mos Eisley.
