I have no interest in the game as the first one bored me.
But damn does it look great, cross gen or not.
It's sad but it looks better than Ragnarok despite it being open world and coming out before.
Sony Santa Monica needs to step up their game. They were the graphics kings of Sony studios on PS3 with GOW3 and Ascension but they lost that crown last gen.

It already looks worse now and is coming out this year. It only looks marginally better than GoW 2018.
Unless they delay it, its not going to look any better.

Not sure about that last statement at all. God of War (2018) is still one of the most beautiful games ever. Their character model is something to behold.

The £59.99 PS4 version on PSN gives you the PS5 version too. I bought some PSN credit on ShopTo so I think it cost about £53 - still not cheap of course but slightly more palatable.

It did look great, especially Kratos, but several other Sony 1st party titles on PS4 looked better.
The materials textures often looked 'off' in 2018.
The first Horizon looked better to me despite being a 2016 game and open world.

Yes.
Forbidden West looking better than Ragnarok is not an opinion I'm alone on by any means.
Several people on Gaf were underwhelmed with Ragnarok's reveal graphics wise and cited Forbidden West as looking noticeably better. I definitely agree with that sentiment.

Agree and I ordered from GS because I sold them a PS4PRO about 6 months ago. I've had $300 credit with them I havent used so thought why not use some for this and GT.
I just checked my order status and it says it's being processed and I'll be notified when it ships. The game unlocks digitally in 11 hours where I am. My order has been placed for a while and they haven't shipped yet. WTF.
I guess I've waited 5 years and another day won't hurt. I'm more pissed I have today and tomorrow off work and won't have it. I'll get it the following day when I won't have time to play for the next five.

No, I'm comparing both pre-release and Forbidden West's pre-release footage looks a lot better overall than Ragnarok's.
I *want* it to improve to the point that it blows Forbidden West out of the water. But in all likelihood it won't.
Your opinion is irrelevant to me, and I'm unsure why you're so invested in mine.
Afterall your known angle is that of the rabid Sony 1st party defender, and all I'm doing is comparing two Sony 1st party games.

They would have an almost unlimited amount of extra polygons for the environment and characters / enemies using the Geometry Engine.

I mean... i posted some pics of tertiary characters from horizon2 that look as detailed as main character kratos or better so yeah, for now horizon looks better than what we saw in the ragnarock trailer, and noticeably so.
Not really worried about the locations, it's the characters that seems to be extremely similar to the first game, aloy looked much better than his ps4 version since the first showing of h2 (and they even improved her) while kratos looks almost the same, freya looks exactly the same.
The dwarf with the octopus and angrboda were the best models in that trailer.

OMG it's even better than all the videos and pictures I've seen!! The soundtrack, the voice overs, the mocap, the expressions and the dualsense features. Man GG has really done it. I'm thoroughly impressed!

Anyone been watching CohhCarnage's stream of this just now?. Holy smokes the game has a memory leak problem or something. he's playing on performance mode and after a while the audio started going out of sync, then the whole game was running at like 15fps in the middle of this big fight lol.
Restarting the console fixed the problem, which makes it look like a memory leak. He's had to restart twice.
So just keep an eye out for that if it happens to you, save and restart.
