[DF] Elden Ring performance: what to expect on PS5, Series X/S and PC

Yes, let's ignore the facts that have been presented right in front of your face and resort to "the chatter".

I've had my PS5 digital since launch and it's not happened to me once where I purchase a game that has a native PS5 version and it ends up downloading the PS4 one by default.

But maybe it's my fault because I haven't been indoctrinated with "smart delivery".

Better luck next time.

Indoctrinated? Wow.

The game runs horrible on PC way worst then on console and that they are deleting bad reviews complaining about the game performance not a good look at all for FromSoft

Fine for you. You're okay with the performance, many others aren't. What should be an Overwhelmingly Positive on STEAM is now mixed for exactly what BANDAI NAMCO intimated the day one patch would solve.

. . .and again, first open world or not that they haven't learned ANY lessons from their previous outings is a shame and should have been called out by the press. Pointing this out doesn't make someone hyperbolic or suggest the underlying game itself is bad.

Maybe Dark Souls 1 should have gotten a 3/10 with these Steam reviewers if perfect performance is a requirement. Sad to see From Software who brought us some of the best games ever get review bombed. Sad. The people being anal about it are missing out on greatness.

Man, I also own this for PC. I'm going to test it tonight on my 1660ti. I guess I won't see many issues since I'm still on a CX with it though. Maybe the stutters that I haven't seen on XSX.

I'm playing it now. The stuttering is more than apparent, to say nothing of the FPS swings regardless of settings. If that's okay to you to have immersion break, that's cool. Don't though try and square up on people who think it isn't, you ripe cunt (learned that one today).
The only cunts are the ones crying like pussies about a game that hovers in the 50’s. Acting like it’s broken, unplayable, stutter fest. It’s fucking not. It’s not even close to that. That’s a fact.

couple things I've heard on reeeee. No haptics or 3d audio on ps5 native version, load times differ between ps4 and ps5 by about 3-4 seconds, foliage is the only discerbable difference and it actually may be a plus for the ps4 version because the pop in of said foliage is quite bad on ps5. ps4 fps is a rock solid 60fps.

I'm starting on ps4 and running that until/if ps5 version gets patched. It sounds like the performance mode we all would have preferred.

I've been tweaking out on benchmarking and tuning the game on my 3060+i7 11370H laptop. I'm not getting profuse stuttering on PC that people are describing. I was getting little hitches upon entering a new area, and when a new enemy would appear at first, but I'm not seeing it now. Maybe it's further into the game? Now if you want to talk stuttering The Ascent, a game I absolutely adore, launched on GP PC with crazy shader compilation stuttering. That's real stuttering. Like every 2secs it would hitch until you traversed the whole area.

Now, I am having a hell of time keeping a solid 60fps. It's like the PS5 video where it drops into the 50s, sometimes while I'm only seeing ~60% GPU usage and ~60% CPU usage. Kinda weird. After all that shit I just decided on some settings I like, turned off the performance monitoring, and now I'm just playing the game. It's not bad at all.

What! you cant be serious, after Demons Souls remake combat feeling amazing due to haptics we are going back to no haptics. Did From just completely ignore that game and continue churning out their shitty performing games on their shitty outdated engine.

So we are looking at 45 fps and no haptics, that's depressing.

yeah man that was what finally pushed it over the edge for me going with the ps4 version. really seems they were scrambling to get all the platforms performing.. and the results were still pretty pathetic. I'm hopeful that comes in a patch for ps5 along with a workable performance mode

Just played 2.5 hours on PC and only had hitched when changing area, but otherwise it was butter smooth 🤷‍♂️

Ok my PC is overkill with a 3080 Ti and performances could be improved for sure, but not like game freezing moments like some streamers got. Maybe it’s something between the anticheat and OBS?

Is this game like a free cross-gen purchase on Playstation? If I buy the PS4 disc version can I download the PS5?

game is def dropping heavy frames for me on a 3080 + 9770k in specific areas. not gonna bother with the console versions but i can't believe it's this fucked out of the gate. dark souls 3 and sekiro ran fine at launch from what i remember.

I do. Does that affect performance?

There’s a rumour on Reddit that maybe the launcher has something to do with the Easy anti cheat, improving it, god knows how, as some sort of background app or something that is maybe better optimized on Epic side than whatever From soft included?

We’re a bit in the dark as of now, so many theories.

Played a bit to see for myself on PC.

Have a 2080 Ti. Playing at 4K max settings causes stuttering which is noticeable but nothing game breaking. It's annoying if you want the master race experience, though.

Playing at 1440p max settings seem to be giving me no stuttering at all, though I need more time to be sure.

1080p/60 with max settings and a near constant 60fps with my 980ti. Spent 1 hour playing and just messing around going around the starting large area. Almost none of this loading stutter people have talked about.
Just like with Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro, 2 PC ports that had problems for a lot of PC gamers but were perfect for me, and its the same here. I mean maybe it gets worse the further you go in but its been near flawless in my opening hour.
I swear some people dont look after their PC's, or know how to keep them running well.

Both console versions bad, SX just more botched. PC version also fuked.

How the fuck reviewers give it 10/10 when performance bad across the board?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I KNOW RIGHT.

I've been wondering. Either the reviewers ran into the inconsistent performance and just didn't notice or didn't care.

Cyberpunk on consoles got lambasted universally but I guess that game also had a shit ton of crashes etc, at least there don't seem to be any reports of this game crashing on anyone yet.

That's because most people don't care that much about the technical aspect of the game. Their enjoyment wasn't affected by frame drops. Bloodborne too ran like shit, that didn't prevent me from loving the hell out of it. Same for Sekiro, it was far from a locked 60 fps game.

A lot of games have gotten lower scores due to slight performance issues, dying light 2 being the most recent.

It’s not fair for reviewers to pick and chose who gets points loss from bad performance issues.

If they are giving this game a 10/10 it should at least be running at a stable FPS. I think this game got a lot of browie points because of the hype but like everyone else, I will be playing to see if it deserved those scores.

PS5 still pushing out the best performance.
Come on guys. It’s obviously just not well done from a technical standpoint. Both platforms have issues and yet both are imminently playable. Let’s talk about the good stuff instead of trying to throw “gotchas” around.

This board can definitely get tiresome.

this gamma flicking is well over exaggerated, I’ve been playing On a CX since launch and I see gamma flicker every now and again on loading screens, hardly ever if at all in gameplay.
I have similar experience, that during gameplay it's not noticeable, but to be fair, the games that I have played so far have usually a stable 60 fps.

Anyone compared ps5 and pc loading times?
I’ve put over 5 hours on ps5 and performance mode is really good looking aa wise. The only downside is terrible frame pacing due to running in middle 50s. Ps5 needs vrr or this game needs fixing. The lock to 30 on resolution mode is a must.

VFXVeteran VFXVeteran what hdr setting you use? I see horrible gradients banding on my lg c1. In game I just lowered hdr max to 800 nits and left sliders at 0.
The banding in the intro looked really wrong. Maybe game wants other black levels entirely

REDRZA MWS

You are so very wrong. Middling 50s are just the worst without vrr.
I don’t ask for much. Just add 30 cap to quality mode or bring vrr to ps5
Nah bruh…. 30 is always worse than unlocked hovering in the mid 50’s. VRR is MADE for fluctuating (unlocked) frame rates. SX players gonna be fine. Ps5 holds a bit steadier frames without VRR, wish Sony would get their head out of their ass after close to a year and a half. VRR Shouldn’t be rocket science for an HDMI 2.1 compliant machine . Yet as I’ve said, the game looks and plays GREAT on my 77” LG GX

So I found in task manager performance, GPU Copy spikes exactly whenever the game lags. Any idea what this is measuring?

No contest

does he mention VRR and how it affects the Xbox version for those who have it?

I just saw the loading comparison, there is no way this game has been developed evenly for the Xbox to the same level as ps5 if the ps5 is loading three time faster. Fuck me I hope from patch this game asap.

Wow,this has to be the worst launch experience I have had in quite some time. I am playing on PC with a rtx 3090, absolute shit show. Had three hard crashes, one during a boss fight, loads of frame drops, it doesn't support ultrawide (this is a personal nitpick but wtf), also being capped at 60fps is just laughable. Gonna wait a bit for this to be patched before hopping back in. This all happened in under 2 hours of playing, it also froze on me trying to simply exit the game, that was very appropriate for how my first night with this game went.

Can someone who played the network test tell me: was it basically locked 60 with no stuttering then or what? Cause the game stutters constantly on ps5 yet I don't remember anyone saying that prior.

Is it just running worse now or were people just not reporting it then because they figures that whatever problems it had would be ironed out for launch?

I think the performance sucks on ps5, stuttering every few seconds. If this is the case I just can't understand how Fromsoft managed to make the game that much worse for launch.

I see all these people saying "stop complaining the game is perfectly playable" every time a game launches with bad performance. That's what's so tiresome, not the people complaining. This game runs worse than the vast majority of ps5 games so I think the natural and correct reaction is to complain! It's the not complaining that is part of the reason this type of thing keeps happening with games.

Like, we're on an entirely new generation of hardware with vastly better cpu with a game that is no more advanced technically than Sekiro. It shouldn't run like crap.

It is though. It stutters every few seconds. Your post and the language used in it tells me all I need to know about you. You can't handle people being negative but your attitude is much worse, not to mention you are just accepting bad performance from developers with that attitude.

If the stuttering and fps drops aren't a big deal to you why not shut up and be happy it doesn't affect you instead of adding NOTHING to the discussion aside from name calling and throwing your own version of a hissy fit.

What are loading times on pc vs ps5?
On ps5 it takes about 5 seconds .. About as fast like dark souls 2 on pc

It’s weird running on my pc 3090 everything maxed at 4k getting frame rate drops and stuttering also, tried wife’s pc 2080ti max everything no issues… wtf is this? Playing on PS5 now (wife confiscated her computer) more consistent experience this one makes no sense. My stuttering comes when mounted or during large shifts in detail or sometimes just because…. It’s pretty annoying.

So I took vacation to play a game that runs like pure shit? One minute in and I was distracted by the awful frame drops on the PS5 version. How is this acceptable? This needs to get flamed

I'm on XSX and I teleported to another part of the world and it took 6-7 seconds. Seems fast to me. Must be 2 second on PS5?

Anyway, the PC performance is definitely worse than on XSX. I played on a 1660ti with 32 gigs of ram at 1080p. If the framerate is bad on XSX, VRR is certainly working wonders cause it's smooth for me.

Playing on PC.. 6 hours so far
3070
3900x
overall it holds 60 with the above mentioned drops to mid 40s for a second every so often,
which has really not bothered me at all, great game and real nice looking, thoroughly enjoying it
Oh and the music and audio design is fantastic

Tldr; Similar performance profile to the network test version earlier. PS5 Generally has more stable 60fps compared to Xbox Series X. Frampacing issues on PC.

Version 1.02 (still WIP)

- Nothing was changed from Beta
- Performance mode: 45-60fps
- Quality Mode: 30-60fps
- Unlocked framerate for both machines
- 60fps in Quality Mode is rarely hit
- PS5 is typically operating at a higher frame-rate than Series X
- Running the PS4 App on PS5 gets you locked 60fps (at lower resolution 1800p reconstructed and lower settings in grass density)
- On Series X you can use VRR but it is not perfect and it doesn't work well on Series S due the lower framerate range
- Even with the trade-offs PS4 app on PS5 is the best way to play the game on consoles right now
So that is the reason why only the Playstation version was available as test version. The other versions are even less optimized.

Maybe you shouldn't talk about things you clearly have zero experience and knowledge with.

This is the post purchase screen where you can clearly select which version you want to download:

IMG-20220225-015525.jpg

And while I'm here let's revisit your original statement shall we? :

And let's see what happens when you go through the purchase process then hit download without selecting anything:

Oh would you look at that, it automatically downloads the PS5 version.

Who is the "knuckle head" again?

Not involved in this conversation, but even I felt that burn :lollipop_fire::lollipop_fire::lollipop_fire::lollipop_fire::lollipop_fire:

I guess PS4 version on PS5 it is for me. The visual downgrade doesn't seem that large and performance appears even more consistent than the PC version running on high-end hardware. I'll just imagine a gardener visited every area before me trimming the grass.

The game is wonderful.

But fuck me the frame pacing on PS5 is shit. I cannot fathom how this doesn’t get called out in reviews.

Not sure what kind of ps5 you’re playing on playing on PS5 now and it’s pretty damn fluid. Was playing DS3 on PS5 earlier this isn’t that fluid which is a locked 60 but it’s close. Game feels good in both modes.

Edited to add: if you can defeat the tutorial boss it’s worth it.
