OFFICIAL: Starfield and Redfall delayed to 2023

I'm not talking about Xbox fans who may be disappointed, but all the Sony trolls that are allowed to run rampant here. None of which had any intent to play these games either way.

I'm disappointed about SF as well, but also level headed enough to know that we won't know what's coming in 2022 until June 12th.

That's not true. I've seen the mods here ban Sony trolls all the time.

Where the fuck to begin????????????????

1. Redfall delay. I have said numerous times that I was always expecting Redfall to be delayed to 2023. February/March was my prediction. Give them an extra six months and stay away from the packed Fall/Holiday season. So no surprise here whatsoever. At least, not for me. When it releases in 2023 I guess is an entirely different conversation. Hoping that there's NO release date for Redfall's gameplay trailer at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase because well, if the following game can have a release date 18 months and get delayed, then what's the point in announcing a release date now??? I say show gameplay in June, hope it's a good showing and then wait until The Game Awards to announce a release date if it's before June 2023. If it's after June 2023, just wait until next June's showcase.

2. Starfield delay. If there was one single game in 2022 that I didn't believe would get delayed to 2023, it was this game. When you give an actual release date 18 months prior, in my mind, it's like, okay, they're extremely confident, you know like 100% fucking confident in hitting that date. Otherwise, why give a release date? Makes no sense to me. If you're not 100% certain no matter what, don't give a release date. As for the game itself, im not a Bethesda Game Studios fan. I am a fan of Arkane, Machine Games and Tango Gameworks though. Excluding a few hours of Fallout 4 years ago, I have never played a single BGS game. This was going to be the first BGS game that I was going to play and give a legitimate chance to. Obviously, this game must have some serious issues and people thought it was releasing in Fall 2021. Hahaha. Hoping the gameplay trailer in June at least looks good and the foundation is there. If it shows like Halo Infinite in July 2020, they should pull it from the showcase in my opinion. I'm going on record right now and saying that Starfield will release in November 2023. I believe that it will get a full one year delay just like Halo Infinite.

3. Bad PR. After this past weekend's outage and DRM nightmare, delaying not just Redfall since I don't believe that would have mattered much in the grand scheme of things but also Starfield is just piling on after last weekend. Microsoft should have waited until after the showcase to delay Starfield. Redfall they could have put a new release date on it in June when they show gameplay and post-show, be like, yeah, they needed another six months or whatever. But for Starfield, I would have waited until July to delay it. Let Xbox fans have a great showcase, stay hyped and excited and then delay the game because if you're excited after the showcase for whatever reasons, at least it wouldn't be as bad in my opinion because there would be so much to look forward to in the future.

4. Empty and dead 2022. This is pathetic. All these fucking studios (excluding ABK since they don't own them yet) and they can't even release any games. This reminds me of the Xbox Series launch where all they had was Gears Tactics and that's it. This year, Xbox fans will get a Deathloop port. Yay!!! (sarcasm). I know people expect Forza Motorsport and I will be honest, I would not be shocked or surprised if it gets delayed to 2023. UGH. This year is definitely giving 2017 Xbox One a run for it's money. lol

5. Mismanagement and leadership issues. Seriously, how many fucking times does someone have to see negative after negative before realizing, holy shit, there may be some serious fucking management issues? And the more studios they add, the harder it's going to be to manage them all. It's like they bit off more than they can chew. I also don't understand how there could be miscommunication issues which is definitely apparent here because how do they start marketing Starfield knowing that it's probably getting delayed? In all honesty, they don't seem to have a clue as what they should be doing. I understand being hands-off in the creative process after green-lighting a game but they should be hands-on and require updates at least every three months. Like, hey, what's your progress? How's the game coming along? Do you need anything? More money, more personnel, more resources? I like David Jaffe and while I don't always agree with him, he's 100% right in this regard because as of now, it looks like fucking amateur hour at Microsoft in regards to Xbox.

6. Phil Spencer. I like Phil but he's too relaxed and laid back. He needs to be more strict. Granted, he's probably a generation away from retirement and has setup a great foundation to build on but at this point, there needs to be some results and games getting released. And I don't care what 2021 was. That means nothing to me now. Spencer and company need to get their shit in order, period because if not, all this investment, acquiring studios and publisher will be for nothing.

7. Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. While majority will probably disagree with me but as an Xbox fan, I DON'T want to see any new game reveals from their first party studios at all. Show me fucking gameplay for the games that have been announced the last two fucking years. Don't show me a fucking CGI trailer for a game that's 3 years from showing gameplay and another two years before it actually if we're lucky. No, just fucking no. Hold back showing new games until they're literally within 18 months from release. I don't need to know games are coming out in 5 years. I want to know what's coming out sooner rather than later.

8. 2023 and beyond. This is perhaps the only upside and positive. If in 2023, Microsoft actually releases 4+ exclusives and all of them are great, then awesome, the future goes back to being bright instead of dark like it is right now but at the same time, they all really need to get their shit together because having nothing at launch outside of Gears Tactics, nothing in the first half of 2021 and thus far, nothing in 2022 is simply unacceptable.

That's enough of my fucking rant. Worse part is that im not even really pissed off, more so, im so damn disappointed and letdown because it's like, every time, you want believe that Microsoft has finally righted the ship, nope, here's another fuck up that makes you think, how do they not have their shit in order? I can fully understand a few studios having issues (like 343 as an example) but JFC, it's like they all have fucking problems and issues. I just don't get it. I really don't.

UGH. What a shitty day for gaming. At least for me. Oh well.

EDIT - I knew I forgot to say something. With no potential exclusives this Fall outside of probably the Deathloop port, Microsoft needs to go after Gotham knights and Avatar to be in Game Pass day fucking one because other than getting major top tier AAA titles into the service at release, I don't see how anything else can even come close to making up for delaying Starfield and to a lesser extent, Redfall. UGH.
As a fan of Xbox I agree, sad but true. At this point it feels like Microsoft has dropped the ball hard this year. If this post ends up aging badly because the June show actually delivers then I’ll be fast to praise them generously. Until then. Meh.

As far as something big to release this year...... I don't know the state of development of "Hellblade 2" but Ninja Theory have been working on it for quite awhile so they should have a significant bit of it done. I'd be happy if Msoft had them split it into 2 parts, divide the team and spend the next 6 months polishing the 1st half to release on GamePass in Nov/Dec. Then, take a majority of 2023 to complete the 2nd half and possibly improve the game as a whole when fully released at whatever point digitally/physically in 2023. Not an ideal situation but it's better than not having a major Holiday game release at all.

Even if the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase delivers, can anything really make up for the delay of Starfield? Forget even Redfall as that was an appetizer to the main course known as Starfield. Rumors have it that we'll get a Gears Collection (meh, why not just upgrade them to Series X/S instead?), Forza Motorsport, Age of Empires IV (console), Halo Infinite Battle Royale and perhaps a small AA title from Obisdian's Josh Sawyer team or Stoic. Even if all this happens, nowhere near enough to make up for not having Starfield.

Plus, it's still Halo, Gears and Forza. lmao.

I really hope that the showcase isn't like last year. Minimal gameplay, only two AAA third party titles and everything else being AA/Indies on Game Pass which is great for those who love all these games but I watch these showcases for the AAA blockbusters, first and third party. All I really want is gameplay for the games that have been announced the last two years and third party reveals like perhaps Avatar gameplay or Jedi Fallen Order 2 gameplay.

I don't want to see any new game reveals from Microsoft at all especially if it's only a CGI trailer. I have had my fill of CGI reveal trailer with gameplay two years minimum later and then if we're lucky, the game actually releases two years after that so four years from reveal to release. Just UGH.

While this is an industry wide issue, I wish they would wait until games are 18 months out and then reveal/announce them with gameplay and only give a release date when the game is pretty much done and within 3 months of release. I don't need a release date 18 months out because I know it's most likely going to get delayed. The last two years, nearly every game has been delayed at least once so im hoping that while we get a lot of gameplay for the games that have already been announced that they show restraint and save any new game reveals for 2023 or 2024.

I'm right there with you on this. Although it's common across the industry, Microsoft seems to be the absolute worst at it.

Someone, I can't remember if it was here or on Twitter or elsewhere, posted a comparison table showing the number of months from initial announcement to actual release for both Xbox and PlayStation's exclusive titles. With exception to Forza Horizon 5, Xbox's numbers were abysmal. If it wasn't originally here, I'll try hunting down the Tweet or the image and post it here if I can find it.

The last thing I want is a bunch of quick hit CGI trailers and the typical E3 voice over narrator saying "XBOX CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE" for a bunch of games that might get canceled like Scalebound or not show up for 28-36 months (or more!).

Hope they have something for this holiday other than Deathloop and Forza, doesn't look like a good year compared to last year. Is there any hope to have Hellblade II this year?
I think they were still doing photogrammetry/environment scanning not too long ago. I doubt if Hellblade II comes this year

Agreed. If you find that tweet or image, please tag me. Thanks.

PS is just as bad. we saw spider-man and TLOU2 at E3 for years each. they show gameplay, but what does that really mean when you’re 2+ years from launch

I think Gotham Knights might be available (although Sony almost always gets the marketing rights for these superhero games, especially from WB).

On the other hand, I think Sony might have already got the marketing rights for Avatar. Just did a quick search on their respective YouTube channels and found this:

FB4NiVC.jpg

There is no trailer for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on the Xbox channel.

For Gotham Knights, it is slightly less obvious. While the Xbox channel does have the new gameplay demo and the reveal trailer, it does not have the pre-order trailer. But PlayStation has all, including the latest pre-order trailer for Gotham Knights.

In addition, last year WB Montreal also started their marketing campaign on the PlayStation Blog after the initial announcement.

They did a recent post on Xbox too, however, so I think Gotham Knights might be up for grabs.

This is, of course, no evidence of anything. But Sony does try to get the marketing rights of these bigger well-known IPs more often than not. If the contracts are signed, I don't see these games going on Gamepass any time soon. Especially, Avatar, as Xbox doesn't even have a trailer of that game on the YouTube channel. Same goes for COD as we know the about the marketing is with Sony until 2024/2025.

Sorry if this is bumping, but further evidence surfaced that suggests Sony does indeed have the marketing rights (at least) for Avatar. This partnership may or may not also have some form of exclusivity or exclusive content because of the other games on this list.

This is from today's presentation by Ken.

Please explain how this sites "top" posters are allowed to crap up every Xbox thread with abandon and why ridiculous anti-Xbox threads are allowed to persist with no bases in reality or any real facts?
Do you report posts?

Both sides do this all day- everyday.

As for your original gif in response to Sony fans being banned- I've banned many of them myself. More reply bans, warnings, and post deletions than I can count. You know what is most annoying as a mod? Seeing people who are every bit as involved in the juvenile toy wars, act sanctimonious on here.

Friendly little advice, insular toy fan groups should all lead by example- then maybe things would actually lead to change you wish to see. Unless of course, one is already leading by example.

Also when you become frustrated or stressed it’s easy to fall into this trap. I know this first hand because when something bad happens to a brand that you love it’s difficult to resist trashing competing brands. Sometimes it pays to read what you wrote and decide if it’s really necessary to upset the others with your comment.

That’s my advice Hendrick's Hendrick's .

No I don't report, but maybe I should if that is the only way. I simply want to be able to talk about games without the constant derailing by those whose only passion is to troll.

You know, I'm fairly annoyed at MS' strategy of announcing these games years too early. I mean they announced State of Decay 3 two years ago and during an recent Undead Labs livestream, they said that they're still in pre-production. But I will be an absolute hypocrite and will be absolutely giddy if they announced a Fallout: New Vegas sequel by Obsidian and also say that it's 5 years out!

You should do that then. As long as yo don’t abuse it I’m sure the admins will appreciate reading your reports. I got tired of reporting so many people that I asked to get the function removed due to not engaging with others as much as I should.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Or Fallout 76.

Only two Bethesda games that I would consider unplayable at launch.
I would put that down to it being an MMO, and also primarily developed by an untested Bethesda Austin studio.

Fortunately Starfield is neither of the above, so I am not expecting any of those foibles here.

Great info. I think Sony is trying to do exactly what Phil once said he wanted to do, which was not announce games too early. I think they make some exception to push hardware and get people to know big stuff is coming like spider-man 2 and wolverine, but most stuff is getting held close to the chest on purpose. I'm sure they could have revealed TLOU Factions awhile ago, instead I bet it gets revealed and comes out a few months later.

Wait State of Decay 3 is still in pre-production?
