Jeff Gerstmann is leaving Giant Bomb

Not a word about Jeff, what the fuck.

Straight up nothing. Insane.

I can totally see him tapping out for this comedy bit though, this is 1000% not Jeff's style lol
Yeah clearly wasn't ended on good terms. Also seems to have been in the works a while given who came back and the spots they left.

Which also makes me believe the NXL guys definitely had to know about this lol. It's a small industry and these guys are all friends.

I didn’t start watching GB stuff till Dan showed up if he back for good, could be great for me. That said I don’t have time to consume video game content like I used to. That’s why I fell off GB year or so ago anyways.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Well, getting Dan and Tam on board as full time employees somewhat takes the sting of Jeff leaving away.

I suppose.

Okay, if Dan is back as Creative Director then this changes everything. There's still a chance for this to be something again.

Giant Dan is the one move they had left and they played it. Good.

So is Dan in charge of all content? Can't imagine he'd want to just reprise his previous role, unless Jeff was actually the reason he initially left.

Wow, I'm shocked Dan is back. I wonder if there was bad blood between him and Jeff after all?

All speculation of course, but it's hard to think otherwise.

Dan without Jeff feels a bit soulless to me, but having Tamoor and Lucy on board full time is nice.

I hope Dan can capture some of the magic he bought with him last time.

Let's see how it pans out. Not overly impressed with the lack of mentioning the Jeff stuff, but optimistic nonetheless.

I like Tam and Lucy, somewhat competent gamers of the new generation at gamespot. And Dan joining back as "Creative Director"? I remember Jeff G saying jokingly ( or not) that Gameinformer can have Dan back if they want him during his farewell stream.

Peak was the Endurance Run with Deadly Premonition.

After that the staff was too inside the game journalists trenches to not get woke. Ryan Davis died before this, but if was alive also would even more woke than Jeff.

I stopped getting Premium a few weeks before Dan left, unsubbed from YouTube a few short weeks ago after realizing I never watch any of it anymore.

Even still, very sad to see Jeff go. I would've loved to see Jeff and Dan together again so him coming back seems bittersweet.
They really felt devoid of chemistry after Brad/Vinny/Alex left. Not sure if the site can ever recover from the current state it's in, but I'll check it out. Dan is hilarious but for me he really needs someone to bounce off of so the solo streams never interested me.

Weird times. Really interested in what Jeff does next assuming it's more than just Twitch streaming from here on out.

The site hasn't been the same since Ryan died, little blips here and there when Dan joined. The split to both coasts was the end. In another timeline, where Ryan is still alive, I could have definitely seen them evolving more towards something like Red Letter Media. They should have transitioned RLM's model of talking about thing they like or something like the Best of the Worst. Unfortunately, the site was started with the eventual goal of selling to a corp like CBS Interactive. Leaning more towards something like RLM, would have allowed them to be neutral as well on politics. Should have just decoupled from the typical Games journalism/marketing cycle or industry.

What does it take to impress Gerstmann? I have never seen him overly excited for a game ever.

Dude, you never see him play Burger time???? Lol
I was avid listener and subscriber for like 8 years but a few years ago fell off. It was the split to the east coast I think it wasn't the same. But damn, had some good times listening to the bombcast and watch quick looks. Early days if Dan talking about never eateing salad or sauce was the best comedy this century for me. All the best Jeff. Bring me the old games show on twitch and I'll sub for sure.

Wild to me that Dan returned, but yeah, as much as I tend to get a kick out of Dan, the whole Jeff bouncing thing most certainly outweighs it for me. I definitely think GB is done for me, but man, do I appreciate everything they've done over the years. Great times.

So Jeff is live now on Twitch

Launching a Podcast and Patreon solo
I risk stating the obvious here but guests will make or break that podcast. Would love to see Colin Moriarty featured on his show in the future then. I think those two together could make for a really spicy podcast.

Jesus christ 1000 subs on Patreon. That's like a minimum of 5K a month in the span of about 10 minutes lol. I don't know what Patreon takes from that and that's assuming everyone subs at the minimum 5 bucks but goddamn that's some easy money.

In for Jeff solo podcast. Unbelievable how shitty they have been recently with Jess talking over everyone and Jan just being a dad joke machine.

Well, I joined immediately. I hope he does collaborate with Nextlander time to time now that he's freelance, but even so his insight and presence in the older bombcasts have always been worth it so it's good.

Seems like there’s some bad blood there tbh. Nextlander reaction to Jeff leaving was weird as fuck.

"I want to create something with you" is a tough sell considering one of Giant Bomb's (and now Nextlander's) biggest problems was how they *never* listened to their community feedback.

Sure. The difference to me is Jeff has been more interesting in this setting, outside of Giant Bomb. At least for a while now.

I do remember hearing Jeff had a lot of say in the direction Giantbomb was going. After Dan, Patrick left they had to fill a hole. And Abby came on and I thought she was alright, but didn't have any of the insight the OG's did. And then slowly the woke BS started coming into GiantBomb, and a lot more dating sims games were being talked about for GOTY. I think bringing in the woke BS and diversity shit is what broke Alex, Vinni, Brad. And the buck in terms of direction for giant bomb stops with Gertsman. Looks like he chose company line, than his integrity, and I think now he sees he's the odd man out in a boring as fuck show.

So I would have a little beef too if Somone chose company over people who helped literally start/build it with him after the Gamespot days.

Dan initially left because he finally had his dream job with a wrestling network. Anything else, especially any type of drama rumor like you've stated, is false.

Edit: I seriously can't wait until the year where this forum finally stops using the term woke as a trendy answer for everything they don't like. Blaming every bad action on wokeness is just as annoying as wokeness itself. This is the most annoying arc of this forum and I'd rather go back to the days of people saying 'cringe' all the time instead.

I mean you have a lot of grown men still clinging to Gerstmann and his opinions. Which is fine of course but ultimately, even as a big GB fan (a lapsed one now), I never really got why he was put on such a pedestal as a lot of his takes with regards to modern gaming are incredibly reductive and of the "hot take" variety. Some other fans go further still in not entirely healthy ways lol. I've come across them in my own circles, going so far as to straight up copy certain personality traits and opinions verbatim. It's weird. But simps gonna' simps I suppose.

All that said I do wish the man the best and hope he can carve out his niche in the industry (again).
