Xbox has a 2 day embargo for multiplatform announcements

THE DUCK

That's the most anti-consummer shit I have ever seen. They don't have anything for 2022 so they want you to think all the games are coming to Xbox only.

We knew right away after the SOP that the games were multiplatforms. Xbox fans made sure we wouldn't forget it.

Imagine the outrage if Sony did this recently 😳

Lol this is the most anti consumer thing you have seen? Do you live in a bubble?

That's weird and unusual. This doesn't happen for Sony, RE4 remake or SF6 for example were announced for everything right away.

Guess it's just another weird fishy marketing tactic

People offended by this, when it is nowhere close to any kind of exclusivity, but hey let’s conplain about how evil is MS because they agreed to keep a 48 hours of silence about the competitor version with the publishers

A press release shared with Eurogamer states: "These beloved games will also be heading to Steam and PlayStation 5". However, without a release date, this could be a timed exclusive for Xbox and PC.

That doesn't look like 2 days.

Some European outlets received a press release early and "leaked" it. But the official public announcement by Atlus was just a few hours ago. The same happened with Koei Tecmo and their game. It lines up with MS paying for embargo dates.

I don't even think this rumor is true as all the multiplatform games didn't have the console launch exclusive label and were confirmed multiplat within 24 hours of the show.

But hey more to rag on a supposed thing I guess.

I thought this is common practice, Sony included I mean, how many people still thinks Resident Evil 4 remake is a playstation exclusive? Let me tell you A LOT.
Not to mention Hogwarts Legacy.

It's not even close to the most egregious thing in gaming.

If this is what ppl are worried about they have too much time on thier hands.

That's not the same. Sony never claimed RE4 is PS5 exclusive. Other platforms were announced right after the stream, not a couple of days later.

what like only allowing pre-orders of Callisto Protocol to be PS4/PS5 after State of Play?
Two entirely different things, don't you think?

Allowing pre-orders after less than 30min.

Vs

Giving the consumer, most of which don't follow gaming news every day, the impression that a multiplatform game is Xbox exclusive.

The latter is quite misleading.

They didn't but they paid to stop information that they were multiplatform from getting out for a few days. Sony/Capcom did not do that.

I suspect both of them are probably guilty of this sort of thing at some point but it's still shitty.
I really don't think we can prove that, and it's not the first time rumors like this have popped up and been found to be untrue later.

A reddit post is probably not the best source.

IIRC correctly it wasn't until close to release that we knew Diablo 3 was coming to Xbox due to their partnership with Sony. I am sure there are more examples. They all do this shit.
I used that example on page 1.

People like to forget things when it hurts thier argument.

Just like there was a rumor a couple E3 ago ago that MS was paying to not talk about Sony with multiplats, and it turned out later Sony was the one doing it.

It's like this shit is cyclical.

So many studios and they still have to buy third party temporary exclusives... and now temporary platform reveals, wtf

Homer Simpson Wow GIF by Justin

You get the point 100%

Microsoft will not know what to do with Activision. It will not change things because it’s not about having studios, it’s about managing them and do great things with what they have. Sony does wonders with their studios for that reason. Nintendo knows how to use their IPs (and mill them). Microsoft on the other hand, has a huge management problem and they just think with money, not talent.

Also, ever since Xbox One, they announce games that never release or take years because they were in development hell, and it’s also happening this generation.

Exactly, it was clearly displayed the type of release for each game, and when it comes to Persona games, the small talk focused on the new relationship with Atlus, never mentioning exclusivity or any other shady comment that might confuse PS owners.

Also, iirc, in the latest State of Play event the RE4 remake and SF 6 were announced and in the trailer only the PS logo (also Steam iirc) was displayed, it was Capcom's press release in which stated it was coming also to XBOX consoles

yes MS is attempting to spend 70billion total to deal with the GAMING giants amazon and google...... you could not sound more ridiculous considering Nintendo and Sony control the market 🧐 and amazon and google are non existent in the space.

This.

I don’t know what sony did to MS, but they’ve been trying for 20 years to get one over on them.

They didn’t spend that long trying to make a working mobile phone…

Maybe saying they’re competing with Amazon makes them feel better because they can win that game, but it’s obvious they really want Sony’s position and having failed to get it through honest endeavour, are now just trying a pay to win strategy instead.

If we are now offended by a 48 hour marketing contract which will just be part of their huge conference video etc terms and conditions then we are reaching a new low.

Who actually gives a fuck? Cos if you do, you're fucked. Haha

You seriously see no problem with a practice of making consumers waiting a period of time after announcement just to find out what other platforms a game is going to be on? Come on. I have no problem with Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo not mentioning the other platforms during the announcement, but this waiting period for any indication of the platforms to be supported should not be a thing.

I get it if its months, like think about it. Microsoft couldn't even mention deathloop or ghostwirr at their conference but it's obvious they will be coming to gamepass ASAP, its obvious that sonys terms to moneyhat exclusivity is that no one can actually talk about the game on other platforms until a certain date.

So I don't see how it's hard to believe that if Microsoft was paying all this money to host this xbox stream that there maybe some terms to state that for your marketing push to be included in this stream we will want exclusivity for 48 hours to line up with our second stream two days later so we can control our messaging.

If it was a week or weeks or months then that sucks but 48 hours to line up with their second stream, I don't see the issue.

Have people really nothing better to worry about than this?
This is just business as usual in all marketing campaigns.

Just don't forget: shows like these are pure and free marketing for the creators of the games. It is really a great thing that MS also includes smaller indi titles so those titles get an audience that would have otherwise never heard of those games.

…so is Hollow Knight Silksong not launching on PS4/PS5 or is it just part of the embargo?
I’d be a bit sad if it launches on everything, even Switch, but not PS consoles.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Threads have been dropping. (Like the Persona one last night)

Basically, every game that isn't published by MS, is on pretty much all platforms.

Anyone who expected Persona to be exclusive to Xbox needs a reality check lol.

I decided the day of the announcement, obviously it's just announcement window, nothing else.

Not the same thing. Persona isn't a timed exclusive at all. This is about paying to keep that information from gamers for a period of time after the announcement. That's just petty.

For two days? To let the gamepass announcement ruminate until your next show? OK, if you are disgusted and absolutely shaking with anger over this then I'll leave you too it.

Just a joke, I couldn't give a fuck if any company had a deal as part of their stream to have the exclusive announcement for 2 days.

We literally have companies withholding games from other platforms for like 2 years minimum and we are angry over a 48 hour announcement. World's gone crazy lol

All of this is “embargo” speculation is based on the publish date for a press release that was publicly accessible on Xbox’s site?

No one sends press releases out on a weekend because no one would read them. Tuesdays (like the 14th) and Thursdays are considered the best days to send out a press release because more people open their emails on that day.

That’s all this is. You guys are angry over nothing.

I think its reasonable for MS to have a short embargo. They promote their announcements in advance and generate a lot of hype for people to watch them. Nothing wrong with them short term benefitting from the attention they worked for before their competitor does.

You are overreacting to mild criticism. I called it "petty". That's hardly the language I would use if this really angered me. The fact that timed exclusives exist doesn't make this any less petty. Somehow this criticism is an indication of the world going crazy? That's some thick hyperbole, dude.
