Do you use additional cooling on your consoles?

Remember Gamers Nexus doing a video on a 3rd party PS5 cooler a while back. Even tho it clipped onto the rear exhaust the fans were actually configured as intakes :messenger_smirking:
Haha, i was gona reply to black stride above about a video i remember watching, and the fans were backwards. Couldn't remember which console though.

I also remember the xbox 360 having a backplate with 2-3 fans.. they tested it and it was actually hotter due to the back blocking the flow.

Having owned just about every console, ive never used extra cooling and never had a console die. 360 i owned was the new revision.

"No wall mounting, unless you hide those wires." Wife
Got to agree with her. Wires running out in plain sight on walls looks hideous.
All my stuff sits in cubbies under the TV. No overheating yet. Including my HTPC.

No. Never had the need to, and I dont think theres is any reliable information suggesting it would be a benefit.

These consoles go through extensive testing, following instructions from the manufacturers seems the most sensible course of action.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Nope, at least not on any of the 5 consoles I currently have set up. Used to use a cooler on a laptop tho.

you have to mount your ps5 to wall to prevent it from overheating??? Lol
That's actually to help keeping the place warm. :messenger_winking:

Although I don't think anyone would mount their console in the ceiling you might benefit from mounting it as low to the floor as possible as the temperature difference at floor level tend to be lower there than higher up (because heat rises, duh).
I got it about Midway up, I try not to keep it to High because of heat but I also have to be aware of the cat hair that builds up on the floor. Especially being summer this cat sheds like crazy and I can’t keep up with it. It’s one of the reasons it’s mounted instead of just sit down somewhere.

Edit: Siri sucks - spelling

Both the Series S and PS5 actually look quite handsome when wall mounted.
If there was a way to completely get rid of the bottom on the Series X for airflow im sure it would also look good wall mounted....and in white.

This is exactly what mine looks like with an additional 8 inches between the system and the wall.

I swapped the thermal paste on my PS4 Pro to liquid metal, and swapped the HDD for an SSD. Very quiet now, can barely tell its on most of the time. Even when playing games. If I get a PS5, I'll probably get the dark plates 2.0 or something for it.

Fuck no!

It looks like you’re displaying them as an art piece. I’d have mine stashed under the stairs if I could…

Sounds like a terrible idea. Unless you completely overhaul the cooling internally which I imagine most people won't, you're just making the airflow worse no matter how many fans you use on the outside.

My condo is constantly at 76 degrees in the summer time (thank you AC). My consoles are in well ventilated areas of the living room. I have ever had an issue with any of them.

The PS5 is an art piece?
It just so happens to also be good a playing games.

Hell half the reason I got an Enthoo case is cuz I think it looks good and I want to display it.

I don't and never have but I have sometimes been worried about them getting hot.

These things are designed in climate controlled buildings whereas mine is in a house in a tropical country that averages 35-40 degrees (95-104) in summer, sometimes more. It's 1830 now, in winter, and it's 24 degrees (75).

I should probably use AC when I'm playing them during summer, but I don't.

XSX has a pretty solid thermal setup and I can't even hear the thing when playing something. What's the point when the system isn't pumping out 200FPS like a PC?

Trick I found to keeping a console cool, fill up a bath with cold water, now dump a few bags of ice in it and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then throw your consoles in, it will keep them cool guaranteed.

NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
Not needed. I have an ice cold personality.

No. Maybe with PS5 or SX I would perhaps consider looking around.

My Series X gave an overheating warning yesterday and now I'm thinking about it. Nothing else in the room has ever given me that. My Series X is only 3 months new.

I can only see this making sense with the original Xbox 360. Normally consoles are designed to run at safe stable temperatures, insofar as their ambient environmental temperature is within operational range. Modern consoles will shut themselves down if they do somehow get too hot.

First time I have ever had to. The second PS5, after the first turned out, started to do odd things. I cleaned it, and took the top off. Contacted reps about what it could be. The ONLY way to get it to not have issues was a fan. I replaced it with another PS5 but still have the unit.
All systems I have are in a room that really never ever goes above 65-67 degrees ever.

My Series X is much cooler and quieter than my PS5 during AAA games. The PS5 is like a space heater, annoying as fuck in summer.

Looks like it would have plenty of airflow, the swoopy design is in part to make it hard to really fuck up the airflow, like the big collars that prevent you from putting something near the intakes.

Just dust it regularly and take it down and check for dust every 1.5-2 years maybe depending on how dusty your environment is (i.e pet hair), more if you smoke, maybe yearly

Aftermarket cooling addons haven't ever really been shown to help longevity, and sometimes hurt it going back to the 360 intercooler days. Putting something outside might just disrupt the vortex airflow they designed the console for, or at best cool the outside plastic and have little to no impact on the SoC.

That wall mounted ps5 look like one of those big ass boxes verizon fios puts in peoples home.

No additional cooling here either. Arent there safety shutoffs on these systems when they do overheat? So that way you know your cooling is not sufficient.
