What are the notable Roguelike / Roguelites from the past Decade?

I want to buy rogue legacy 2 aswell but from the gameplay i saw, there is too much traps\platform involved for my taste and i'm not a fan of the artstyle at all...

Also combat and movements looks a bit floaty (again, for my taste)

Boy this dandy ace is pretty legit, played like 5 hours of it already.

It really feels like discount hades (but in a good way).

It's dirty cheap right now, if you like hades gameplay and transistor\hades (supergiant) way of handling power ups, buy this thing yesterday.

Never heard of it but looked it up just now and bought. Cheers!

And played and everything! As you described GymWolf GymWolf it definitely feels like a Hades-lite hah. It's cheap but not sure if I'll actually stick with it as I still have plenty of Hades to play.

In other news: rejoice! There's a roguelike festival (steam sale) going right now. Already grabbed City of Brass for the low low price of €1,67.

This is a genre that I would love to appreciate more, but the lack of progress characteristic to it always seems to demotivate me.

I finished Undermine. 100 percent all the way. I don't think I will EVER do that again to any Roguelike. I just can't, even.

Many roguelites have progression between runs, some have so much stuff to unlock and upgrade, that is one of the major reasons why i play the genre since i love a strong sense of progression.

For some things is even better than hades, like the number of attacks, special, type of dashes etc. Is even higher.

What the fuck?! Loot River unlocks in a few hours and I've seen no hype/trailers for it ever since the initial reveal one? Crazy!

I like everything in that trailer except how puzzle centric the game look.

I want to play a roguelite, not fucking tetris.

But maybe moving the blocks is only for movements...

Yeah I'm still not sure how that works.

To be honest when I first saw the game I thought the main mechanic was just moving the blocks (for the most part) but I see it's a straight up action roguelite complete with a big arsenal of weapons to choose from. Not sure what to make of it yet but colour me interested!

Yeah i'm gonna check some gameplay for sure.

Any other interesting roguelite to check during this steam event?

I mean there's Minesweeper and Peggle/Pachinko roguelites! :messenger_beaming:

I'm itching to buy these but I think I'll wait for an even further price drop, I still have so much to play anyway.

I’ve recently started playing FTL and I must admit that I am getting nowhere. I’m playing the game on normal difficulty and haven’t yet managed to get to the 5th zone in order to gain any new ship. Should the game be played on easy first, or do I just need to ‘git gud’?

Oh, Dream Quest is my fave card roguelike; simple, yet incredibly addictive. Still haven’t beat the last boss lol.

Game is hard as balls, so there's no shame playing on easy to unlock ships and learning the game.

Bagged Voidigo, it had a few mentions in this thread and the 98-99% user score on Steam looks promising, will play it when I'm done with Dandy Ace.
It's currently 35% off during the Going Rogue sale.

Would you mind recommending me some of your favorites?

Solid list, I'll add Children of Morta and Darkest Dungeon 1 and 2
Yes, I absolutely love Darkest Dungeon, and definitely they will go on my list, it is just that I didn't think of them as Roguelike but coming to think of it, yes they are. Children of Morta I didn't play yet, but it is on my radar.

Sure.

Not in order except the first place:

Hades
Dead cells
Children of morta
Noita (this one doesn't have progression between runs but if you like physics based games this is one of the best)
Wizards of legends
Synthetic
Curse of the dead gods
Dandy ace
Source of madness
Devil slayer raksasi

I'm probably forgetting a couple of very good ones but you can start watching some gameplay for the roguelites that i listed.

Also rogue legacy 2 has a lot of progression going on but i don't own the game so i can't speak for it.

The one with the chibi samurai looks nice.

The one game that needs to be on all systems.

For the love of fuck you should all play Voidigo:

It's easily up there with the greats such as Binding of Isaac & Hades and it leaves stuff like Enter the Gungeon and Nuclear Throne in the dust as it offers far more creativity in both its combat arsenal and ways in which you can make a build your own and play to its strengths. Also it has the lady from The Ring as a melee weapon:

Yeah for nuclear throne\gungeon fanboys, voidigo is basically a must buy, it is dirty cheap if you search in allkeyshop, i payed like less than 2 euros for it.

So no one is going to bring up Returnal which is a rogue like?

To me that game is one of the best in this type of genre.

Why isn't this considered?

Wah? No one is NOT considering it lol. We're all just sharing notable (and our favourite) roguelikes that have come out recently. :)

Yeah it's a steal even for the price on Steam and I urge anyone who's not played it in a while to come back to it as they've added so so much over the past few months. Every few weeks it seems like they're adding an entirely new feature or big change that makes the game even more fun and interesting to play.

It's insane that only one other person on my friends list shows up for me on Steam and they are under the "have it on their wishlist"-category. Madness!

Yes yes yes, I bought it and gave it a few tries. It's great and everyone should get it, unleash the console ports! I'm surprised how well the jump mechanic works, most games would have gone with a dodge roll instead. Some crazy weapons in there too, like the mouth breather one? That was weird.

Looks fantastic with ReShade & CRT shaders

Returnal is a niche title on a platform with a limited install base, ask again when there's a PC version.

Was this thread just PC then? Because it was not specified. If you or who ever created the thread for all rogue likes than no offense Returnal should be in here as its one of the best in terms of AAA rogue like which there are very few if any.

I've played Dead Cells Rogue legacy, Binding of Isac, and returnal is the game I keep going back too because of its amazing gameplay loop.

TintoConCasera

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Has anybody mentioned Downwell yet?

Game's tightly designed and fun and addicting as fuck. It's also short, got a lot of fun playing this back then on my goddamn phone.

Binding of Isaac (2011)
FTL: Faster Than Light (2012)
Crypt Of The Necrodancer (2015)

These three popularized the genre to mainstream and are good entry points.
If you like FPS roguelite, Bunker Punks is on a deal on Steam. It's not a big game and It's quite difficult, lot of die-and-retry, but i have enjoyed it so far.

I mentioned Blazing Beaks in a previous post, but it's 75% off right now during the Going Rogue sales event so it deserves a mention.
It's similar to Enter The Gungeon with a greed mechanic as its defining feature. You can debuff yourself by picking up nasty artifacts that weigh you down with negative effects, if you hold on to them long enough you can exchange them for actual good shit.

Also available on all the consoles.

That was a heavy burden, but look at all that sweet loot!

Next-gen platform exclusivity and the pricetag are probably a turn off for a lot of people, especially considering roguelikes tend to be very low-cost games with fans of the genre usually not caring that much about the graphical quality. At least it is like that for me.

I'm really not willing to give this a go until it comes out on pc for at least 80% off the current price.

If it was mentioned, I missed it, but if you love survival games and roguelikes, one of the oldest and best:

I absolutely love this game. It's so deep and I just love primitive survival. And any developer who has supported their game for 30 years deserves your money if you've got any interest in the genre imho.

Been playin the hell out of Rogue Legacy 2. Pretty much everything is top notch minus a few things that could have made the game more interesting. Still though, extremely addictive and fun.

Oh btw Serious Sam also has a roguelite:

Played it for over 6 hours so far and it's not half bad actually. I haven't tried out the 1.0 version yet but my main gripe with the game was how obtuse some of the unlocks/challenges were. I'll have to get back to it some time.

How it is progression wise? Basic or a lot of stuff to unlock between runs?

Well that's the thing, there appears to be a hell of a lot to unlock between runs: items, characters, modifiers, etc but some of it I have no idea what it wants me to do lol. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Maybe I just suck or haven' read some of the requirements correctly though...

Have you tried samurai bringer? It's pretty cheap right now.

Just watch the latest trailer for an overview.

Got it installed but not yet tried it no. Have a Nice Death and Forward have kind of already been sucking up my gaming time.

Hope I get to it sometime this week!
