Scorn - Reviews Thread

Yeah, I’ll definitely give it a whirl.

But I have the attention span of a 5 year old with any kind of media these days, those just so much content to work through that if I’m not entertained within an hour or so I’ll just move on.

Life’s too short and all that!

But I’ll definitely give it a try, why not eh?
Understandable. My favorite part of Scorn was the last chapter which is Act V. I wish the game had more of that and was a tad longer. I think I am a bit bias though, cause I like creativity and art (have a degree in 3D Game Art Bachelor's) so i tend to appreciate art quite a bit more than an average individual and this game is full of it. I think this is one of the big reasons why I enjoyed this game more than others. But in Act V there is a big change in scenary and I found it mind-blowing because I've never seen that type of art before in any other video game, only in books or movies. I hope you enjoy the game enough to at least finish it. Would love to hear what you think, let me know how it goes <3

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The environments look like hand drawn concept art.

The game looks real good if nothing else.

I almost stopped after 5 minutes. Like the first room of the game was already boring and exhausting, 20 mechanism to activate...a little further i spent 15 minutes walking because i didn't walk close enough to the thing that gives you the first weapon.

I don't mind the game being slow paced, i just don't think it has a good game design overall, it's not very well thought out in its formula. It almost could have been a metroidvania but it's apparently very short and just not "fun" enough. Again, it doesn't have to be first degree fun, but if you do that you should have way more ambition in what you want to put on the table. Here it just looks like they have a setting and they have to make a game with it but they don't really know what. Although they were right to go with a "refined" approach in a sense.

I stopped after 2 hours. But From Software should make a sci fi new IP with Giger influence when they're done with Berserk and Lovecraft, it has a lot of potential for the type of atmosphere they like to make, a mix of horror and melancholy.

Just done a 5 hour sesh, and by all accounts i'm close to the end. I'd give the game a 7/10 so far.

The game oozes atmosphere, and looks disgustingly beautiful. The puzzles are a real chore at times though as there is zero hand holding in any way with anything in the game, that will turn off a lot of people.

So yeah not surprised by how widespread the reviews are, its def a 'love it or hate it' game.

About 40 minutes in now.

I spent forever on operating these weird devices that seemed to do nothing until I finally stumbled upon the first major puzzle (didn't like it to say the least).

Not a very promising start to be honest.

Don't confuse bad puzzle design with "it's hard so you can figure it out yourself". You don't have to defend everything that isn't easy.

The reviews are all over the place. In one review they will love a feature and in another, they will call the same feature the worst thing ever. This game seems to be the perfect try before you buy game. You might call this your game of the year , or the worst game you played this year. I can't wait to try it and see how I feel about it.

I wouldn't expect people that like hand holding to enjoy this.

You get put in a world and just have to get on with it.

I'll say to people before going in, If you need wowing every 5 seconds and have an attention span of a 5 year old then pass this game and go browse tiktok instead.

That Gamerant reviewer is a fucking moron.

It's a puzzle game. Nothing more nothing less.

What's he comparing it to Resident Evil for 😂😂

I don't want to be that guy...but how does this get a 1/10...even a 4 out of ten? I'm like 2 hours in and it's just blatantly a puzzle game that's oozing style.

Love the art style and the strange baron alien landscape. Loving that I'm hearing it's short...think it will be done this weekend for me. Its currently a solid 8/10 for me. So I guess something drastically shit is going to happen or something.

It gets a 1/10 because the guy is a fucking degernate basement dwelling goblin who doesn't understand how to properly judge a game on its merits.

A 1/10 normally would mean a game that is extremely broken, filled with technical issues and is borderline unplayable. The game has to not 1 but multiple game breaking bugs or functionalities that just don't work. Everything works very well in Scorn and I didn't have any issues personally.

This so called "reviewer" basically doesn't how to properly use his brain (probably doesn't have one to begin with) let alone be allowed to be trusted with reviewing products for a publisher. Very undeserving review.

What pisses me off the most is that idiots like him make good people in our industry looks bad and it's embarrassing, sad and pathetic.

A 1 out of 10 is a barely loading the title screen. That score is fucking bullshit.

Yea I don’t get it. Like what, Myst would receive a 1/10 today?

I saw a reviewer said he was breaking his head for hours for the puzzles, while others says they’re too easy..

Like wtf is this.

It’s so polarizing that I will buy it on Steam. I just know that most big fucking review houses just want hand holding and brain dead things like painted ledges to know where to climb/jump, narrative to spell it for you what’s going on, à GPS for objectives, a pause and explanation for every items/abilities you receive… then it’s a 10 isn’t it? Sprinkle some cinematic wannabe shit in there and it’s a masterpiece.

They’re mentally challenged

Not in artstyle or content, but it reminds me of everyone gone to rapture, a slow game with some type of puzzles.

Im about 2hrs in and im enjoying the puzzles and visuals, the art style and world is creepy and rather good, this game probably has the best geometric detail in the environment out of any game so far.

As usual gaming "journalists" show they have the intelligence of ants. The game is very much a "walking sim" style experience. Shooting takes up maybe 1/5th of the entire game. The art is absolutely gorgeous and I kept wanting to explore this alien world. Doesn't outstay its welcome, but the frustration can come out with the combat as I swear some of these enemies are hitscan.

Puzzles are all mindlessly easy though. Never took more than a few seconds to solve it.

Been playing for a couple hours & the zero hand holding is great but man was I running about for ages trying to do the first big puzzle 😂 (
looking for the arm thing for the dismembered arm
) the rest have been relatively simple so far.

Graphics are stunning in a horrible way 😂 like you can just sit there and it looking like concept art it’s that good.

I've spent almost 3 hours with this.
I was expecting to love this. I like stuff like this (Soma is incredible).
But so far this is just really depressing Myst with just tedious puzzles that make you run around like an idiot.
And the combat is just an annoying distcation.

There are games that don't hold hands and are good. I think that's 2 different things.

About the puzzles, the thing is, some people are calling puzzle being in a giant room and looking for a device to interact with. As some people said, the real puzzles are really simple from what i've seen, but going back and fourth looking for something to do is just uninteresting, no matter how you look at it i think.

But the sections with enemies are even more tedious than that.

It was a fast uninstall for me. Sadly. I really liked the universe and wanted the game to be great. But walking around with dozens of interactions that DO NOTHING but waste my time and let me know that I need to come back later is not fun for me. I didn't even get to fight anything, I couldn't stand it. What a massive shame

Looks trash. Hate how these games are hyped beyond belief just because they are day one Game Pass. You get the odd gem like Tinykin and Tunic but wow, lots of shite too.

I’ve seen this pumped up as a big Xbox get for 2022. 70 average rating or whatever the fuck it is means it’s pretty wanky. Luckily Requiem launches soon, an actual quality game (hopefully).

There’s some 2 and a half hours playthroughs online now. Skipped through some of it and then watched the last 30 minutes since I saw some comments that the ending was disappointing. Just wanted to see what was up with it as i don’t see it being something for me even though I have game pass. At least it’s unique.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I'd say that's a positive not a negative. I want to feel like it's 'me' in the game. Rather video game writers kept quiet than foist their constantly self-narrating character upon me!
Funny, I tend to care more for a character then the whole "you are the character" stuff.
It throws me right out of it because I know it's not me, I can't be hurt and there is no danger
But the character can...

A started to feel sick 🙈 turned off motion blur and that fixed it for me.

I turn off motion blur in 60 FPS games always if given the option. Can't stand the needless smearing.

The game, seemingly, has rock solid performance already that I don't need extra trickery.

2022 & no film grain toggle on console. Fo shame.

I don't mind it, artistically its great, soundwise likewise, but the puzzles so far as piss easy tbh. Combat is meh and I have no idea what the fuck is going on.

Did I die in act 1 or what? Why is the red vines from war of the worlds all over

Oh I know, it's an incredibly transparent post. I want the user to at least say what they want to openly.
They won't though, because they usually don't have any good arguements to be able to back up their retarded claims oh and on top that it's a drive by post.

I've played a couple of hours of the game and *just* got the first weapon. If this is a 4~5 hour game and I'm getting a weapon at what feels like hour 3, then seems like combat is an extremely minor aspect of the game. Seems like it's a primarily puzzle based walking sim. I got the feeling combat will be one of the core parts of the game based on pre-release stuff.
