People are getting pissed :D

Random but interesting:

These posts have like 5 likes each. Hardly anyone cares about these big shows as long people keep getting the games. "you have left the PlayStation community" says a random guy while Sony is out there releasing Horizon Forbidden West, GT7, TLOU Remake, GOW Ragnarok just this year alone...VR2 next year, FFXVI, Spider-Man 2, Factions probably, FFVIIR for 2024...etc...

People are just annoying.

I just realized I voted late September. It is late October and no showcase in sight...

This rumour is completely illogical - even just at face value.

- They can't pull the wool over their eyes; the CMA can get evidence of contractual arrangements in place on games that are not yet released
- The CMA investigation will still be ongoing when some of the 3rd party exclusives actually release, or otherwise need to be marketed
- Sony's ability to make the sort of deals that they have made previously is hardly going to change the trajectory of this investigation

I'm calling bullshit.
I think the fact that Silent Hill 2 and FF16 were shown this month in non State of Play/PS Showcase events gives credence to the rumors. SH2 was apparently paid for by Konami so Jimbo simply moneyhatted its timed exclusivity. It would look really bad had they held a big conference with Spiderman (not their IP), Wolverine (not their IP), SH2 and FF16 right in the middle of a big investigation. SH2 has apparently been in dev since 2019 so a reveal this late could indicate that Sony was saving this game for one of their big shows.

Yes, Spiderman and Wolverine are not your typical moneyhats, but you really dont want to give MS any ammo at this point.

I am not saying thats what happened, simply pointing out that the rumor isnt completely illogical. Death Stranding must have also started dev in 2019, 3 years later? Not a single teaser from kojima? The same guy who created the DS teaser in 5 months with no office, no team while borrowing an engine from Sucker Punch he ended up throwing away for the Decima engine? Something is not adding up here. They shouldve had a show for September. Or even E3. Spiderman and Wolverine were shown last year. No gameplay after one full year of dev time? This aint MS studios we are talking about, this is Insomniac. This is Sony studios. You look at Spiderman, TLOU, Uncharted, GoT, Days Gone, and they all reveal the game with a teaser and then boom, gameplay next year. Hell, Uncharted got a gameplay just 6 months after its infamous reveal. I highly doubt the most productive team at Sony studios has nothing to show after a full year of dev. They literally made Ratchet in less than 2 years. They cant get a gameplay demo ready for September or October? Doubtful. There is something going on behind the scenes at Sony, and this CMA stuff makes more sense than saying ALL Sony studios are in development hell.

Konami showing timed exclusive deals in their own event lends credence to rumours that the PS showcase was cancelled because they didn't want to show timed exclusive deals? U wot?

Spiderman and Wolverine are first party games based on licensed ip. Licensing ip is neither a new concept nor anti-competitive.

Doesnt matter. MS lawyers used Spiderman as evidence Sony was moneyhatting exclusives.

You not thinking this right _ i agreed with you that Sony needs third party deals to complement and diversify their first party output through out the year. They are buying more studios to diminish that dependence. The problem with your theory is that if they depend of this business deals to compete _ if they depend on the third party exclusives and timed exclusives, the third party exclusive content and timed exclusive content (the marketing deals like cod, fifa) _ then how are they going to compete if Microsoft buys those IPs? A PlayStation Experience show very focused on third party would only enforce Sonys stance, and goes against Ms defense strategy that they don't need cod.
The only thing that could give credibility to this rumor is the complete opposite _a ps show full of first party studios mind blowing reveals (including some of that multiplayer stuff) that would prove that Sony doesn't need cod... nor all the other Activision/Blizzard studios and third-party content that Ms is trying to monopolize after Zenimax.

You're not entirely incorrect, but I don't think the CMA is equipped to delve into the reality of Sony's exclusivity against what Microsoft is trying to do with this level of nuance. They should be able to, but won't, and Sony knows that. There are many people across "enthusiast" forums like this who don't understand the nuance or just refuse to recognize it.

When you're dealing with regulatory bodies, it's often more about how it looks than how it is. Sony whinging about exclusivity while hosting a show reeling off first party exclusives, third party exclusives (timed or otherwise, on PC or otherwise) and marketing deals isn't going to square with their arguments in the eyes of the CMA.

It's not a coicidence that you got pretty random drops for Silent Hill, Resident Evil and FF16 in the span of 3 days. The Helldivers 2 leak suggests that PlayStation was prepping marketing material internally.

Millie A's tweet basically says: "PlayStation thinks what they've got planned to show is too hot". Considering everything we saw this week but Silent Hill 2 was already announced, I'd bet first party was going to have one hell of a showing.

I don't like it at all; I think the acquisition is going to happen and Sony's going to have to deal with it. And I think they will be able to deal with it rather easily. Messing up your own hype schedule in today's world isn't the smartest move, but there's an easy argument to say that Sony's relative silence throughout the year has been defined by this acquisition crap.

I really, really hope it doesn't mean we'll have to wait till March for Sony to say shit, but we'll see. The longer the wait though, the more they'll need to show.

Silent Hill 2 wasn't a big seller, so a timed exclusivity of a Bloober remake isn't a big deal at all. FFXVI, Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine were already announced so nothing would show showing them again. Kojima said they got severly impacted by the lockdowns, but in this time they managed to release the Director's Cut and the two PC ports. After that they started DS2 but surely it may have only a year of development, maybe they started production right now so it's way too early to show it now.

Sony also had to promote TLOUP1, GoWR, PS Plus every month and also revealed important stuff recently at TGS. And in October had to leave room for the 3rd party stuff like RE, SH or CoD events, SF6 beta etc. All this with no consoles in the stores so makes sense that Sony could want to save 1st party bullets for later, obviously this has nothing to do with CMA.

So we still only for October right? I was told its definitely in October.
Sony never promised any event for October and in fact they never mentioned to plan a future Showcase.

Exactly, Sony never promised anything...as usual it was just fans claiming it would definitely be every month since July. I'm sure we will hear its November next bur in reality it will be the game awards for death stranding 2.

I knew it couldn't be October which is why I included November in the poll

According to his Instagram and Twitter he has been hard at work editing a reveal trailer for his new game. But to be honest I think it will be for TGA

P.S.
Oh I see my thread has become significant enough for the dear mods to want to step in, congratulations everyone, this will hopefully not drag as as far and long as Hassan's thread has

I don’t think there will be one, outside of a state of play.

I think we’ll see:

Death Stranding 2 and HellDivers 2 at the Game Awards
Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine in a dedicated State of Play.
A more focused VR2 State of Play.

In the Spring I suspect we’ll get a traditional showcase with some new announcements and some Indy goodness.

I think that their next State of Play will be indie or PSVR2 focused to announce its release date, price and some extra games more. I can see the PSVR2 one in January releasing the device early March.

Imo it will be after Forspoken releases, probably mid to late February. If they have some announcements or showings of already confirmed games, they may use one at The Game Awards.

All this onus on Sony makes no sense, especially when they are due to pump out a potential GOTY in less than two weeks. As a gamer, I am more keen on MS sharing some gaming news because I feel like they need to build some hype more than Sony atm.

I think the onus comes from Sony not having anything in the hopper outside of vague Wolverine and Spiderman 2 announcements. Xbox's E3 show was pretty clear what their roadmap is over the next 12 months.

You don’t really need to announce anything when you have 2 FF’s next year, a GOW sequel in a couple of week and Forspoken in January. I reckon we’ll be waiting until next March for a proper Sony showcase, and I’m good with that.

And I’m really not sure what the roadmap is from MS because as far as I know, only Redfall has a release date.

Idk its kind of hard for me to imagine sony showing spider-man 2 outside of a major showcase, or even Factions.

I can’t imagine sony giving Keighly a big spider-man gameplay debut trailer. I assume whatever he gets from Kojima is just gonna be a short in-game teaser trailer.

Think of all the PS5 owners, or all the potential PS5 owners (~100 million people) who aren't interested in buying Ragnarok or FFXIV.

That's a lot of customers who are basically in the dark as to what 2023 and beyond looks like. We've almost certainly never had this level of fog surrounding a PlayStation console in their long history.

MS gave us a 90 minute show detailing "the next 12 months" so comparatively, it's night and day between the two.

Now does it matter? Not at the moment, but PS5 stock is exploding and scalp prices have never been lower. It could matter in a jiffy.

I’m guessing potential PS5 owners will be looking at the games already released and not what is going to happen in the future. And it isn’t like Sony are struggling to sell consoles atm.

Edit - and the only thing night and day are the actual released games ffs.

Well now you're questioning the importance of revealing games to the public before release. A practice all major publishers have done for decades.

No. The next 12 months (9 months now) look extremely different between XBox and Playstation because we got a 90 minute show from XBox detailing what their next 12 months looks like. We're completely in the dark with PlayStation.

The only thing I'm with you on is how much it really matters. Neither you or I have any metrics to base our thoughts on regarding that.

They'r will be a new event when Sony is anouncing it.
And they wil, i dont care when. I have enough to play for a time to come.
When i have no games to play anymore, i'am shure the event has been on YouTube, i'am shure about that.
Al this fuz about when, why they didn't, what they are trying to hide and Sony has non ore only a few games next year has a specific reason.

PS5 2023 lineup is already mostly defined and it's fantastic ?

Forspoken, Hogwarts Legacy, Yakuza Ishin, Octopath Traveler 2, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Horizon Call of the Mountain (PSVR2), Street Fighter 6, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Little Devil Inside, Final Fantasy XVI, Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty, Stellar Blade, Silent Hill 2 Remake, Diablo 4, Spiderman 2, FF7 Rebirth possibly in December and possibly TLOU Online and Pragmata as well.

What else do you want? :messenger_tears_of_joy: Are you even going to have the time and money to play all these games?
This drama about a "showcase" is becoming a joke, Sony has been getting away from that kind of marketing for years, they want to have a continous flow of announcements and not have their development teams being forced to announce stuff early just to meet the date of a specific event. They'll announce their next round of first party projects when they're ready and not necessarily in a single huge show. Indeed Death Stranding 2 could be announced at TGA.

I mean, if Sony only released one or two first party games next year, there’d still be a shitload of great games to play.

There will be indeed a shitload of great games to play next year.
Sony is already greatly positioned in terms of exclusives with Forspoken, FFXVI, Silent Hill 2 Remake, FF7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Horizon Call of the Mountain, Spiderman 2, quite possibly TLOU Online and also a couple of interesting indies like Little Devil Inside and Tchia.
They're already fully set for 2023.
Things from Bend, Sucker Punch, Kojima, Deviation Games, Haven Studios, Team Ninja, the Firesprite horror game, Wolverine and many others will likely be 2024 games.

I am personally not at all a fan of FF so I couldn't care less. also based on what I have seen, Forespoken seems like it will be a lukewarm experience. Sony's line up is currently inadequate no matter how you slice it. they have got things up their sleeves but unwilling to show them at the moment which is odd

If you‘re not into FF, Spider-man 2, Forspoken, PSVR2, Silent Hill 2 or Stellar Blade, then yeah, 2023 probably is a bit lukewarm.

They already announced a lot of non PSVR2 games for the first half or so of 2023, plus many games with '2023' date that could release there. Some of them even with exclusive of some kind.

There's also Resident Evil 4, Street Fighter 6, (both exclusive in previous gen) and many more listed above. It's only a bit lukewarm for you if you don't like videogames.
