Twitter Death Watch |OT| How long until the bird dies?

But the Holocaust stuff? The conspiracies about how the world is secretly run by a select elite? That all vaccines are deadly or cause autism? That minorities are less human than white people? "The great replacement" bullshit?

All of that can be sent into the sun. It does nothing but stir up division, fear, and violence. It has no place in a civilized society and should not be tolerated on a platform like Twitter.
Let’s stick to one example - the holocaust deniers. Tell how their thoughts and beliefs cause fear and violence? You keep saying that it does but this simple question remains unanswered

Btw, you realise that white people can be minorities depending on the country, right?

What about it?
A conspiracy that lead the deaths of tens of thousands. For years it was called a crackpot conspiracy theory. Reality or the telling of it can be molded by those in power.
I understand you're trying to get political, but Bezos, a billionaire, does not have the beliefs you think he does. And neither do most of the actual editorial of almost all media.
Pretty sure there is nothing political about pointing out the hipocracy in that tweet.

I think the subtext is obvious, but whatever 🤷‍♂️

Reality is the arbiter of truth. All the conspiracies I listed are factually incorrect and can lead to dangerous consequences.
Sounds like a game show titled "Which fascist dictator said this?"

No I'm saying I won't discuss conspiracies that are politics related or get into the Left vs Right territory for obvious reasons.
Because you don't like having to address how subjective and political the term "conspiracy theory" can be, we know.

If you want to get into more conspiracies that don't get close to the politics rule then we can do that though.
I'll stick to the conspiracy theories that most strongly illustrate my point. Keep ducking though I guess.

Legal analysis of the issues Musk faces with the FTC. Along with other legal issues he may face given what has occurred so far.

Legal Eagle the GOAT.

No because I don't like to be banned.
I'll stick to the conspiracy theories that most strongly illustrate my point. Keep ducking though I guess.
Then you can do so. I'm not stopping you. I just won't be baited into a political discussion for no good reason.

If you change your mind let me know.

They're petty enough to not notice "hateful content" until he bought the place.

Why were they ever so blind to it before? I have doubts any of that bullshit impacted their marketing to notice in such a short window of extraction.

I dont think hateful contest is as elusive a definition as you're claiming

"Hateful content" is the new zeitgeist in this ether we are going to see parroted; as if it were a new revolutionary thing not seen in the likes of the ever so lovable hugbox that was twitter. Derp.

Only if you believe hate speech is hard to define.
And this highlights the core of the issue of the current age.

The internet allowed people to express honest opinions. Truly honest unfiltered opinions, both correct and misguided.
These 'intellectual prostitutes' - and the ones above them - cannot control information through their old methods anymore. So in desperation they scatter and scream and coerce.

The division we see today is a conflict between the people who want the old ways back, a controlled narrative unifying people through their mix of truths and falsehoods - and the people who don't, those who tasted the sweet nectar of chaotic truth the internet provided and wants it to stay that way.

Lol unifying? What old ways were ever unifying? Were where we are because unifying wss never in the agenda. All the needed to drop was the guise of civility.

I used to watch him before I realized he would deliberately leave out key facts in his coverage. Not bad to see the other side of things, but I don’t feel like he’s honest. Explains why he’s a lawyer lol

We don't live in a dictatorship, we live in a democracy with one of its founding principals being Free speech.

Own what you say and what you do. If you want to be a holocaust denier, a flat earther etc etc.. Whatever you want to be or you want to believe. Own it and put your name on it. If not, keep it to yourself as people have for generations.

I mean we have a somewhat similar dynamic here. Sure we are all "Anonymous" here to an extent. But guess what, because of that people probably say more than they should or say things just to inflame the situation which in turn requires Gaf to have moderation.

Anonymity is the pathway to trolling and gaslighting. It does not fit with the ideals of American Free Speech.

Don't get me wrong, anonymity can be a good thing but not when we are talking about Free speech and an open public square.

You're correct. But the bad actors want the anonymity AND the speech.

Can't have both in a just society.

Hitler, ok. Now, what does that have to do with my original meme and me 'not wanting to claim it'? Wouldn't this allegory just reinforce the point?

i said that in response to your response that the political depiction of the empire was standard. My counter was that the depiction of the empires rise being born out of democracy was also standard, so using it as an example isn't saying much. Its a pretty common trope of fascist empires including in real life.

No, you're putting a lot of things out of order:

Seeing all the people vehemently defending censorship - oh excuse me - "content moderation" and "fake news regulation", reminds me George Lucas knew.

star-wars-padme-amidala.gif

George Lucas also made a movie where an oppressed class banded together in organized protest, destroyed property, took captives and killed high ranking members in order to take down what they deemed to be a systemically oppressive fascist regime while that regime called them "terrorists" and used falsehood in media, increased militarized enforcement, corruption and subterfuge to try and turn the public against them.

so maybe you dont wanna claim him?

A pretty standard political narrative for a story. So?

So is a villain taking power from the hands of democracy that initially supported him. It's so standard, in fact, that it happened in real life.

And who is that villain you're refering to i might ask :pie_thinking:

For starters, you're not even getting your point across. You described the whole fascist empire rise narrative, and implied that was the reason i "shouldn't claim him".
I assume you're saying shouldn't reference George Lucas works because of said narrative. If so, why?

Hate Speech

noun
  1. abusive or threatening speech or writing that expresses prejudice against a particular group, especially on the basis of race, religion, or sexual orientation.

Edit: Inb4 Gif response or deflection based whataboutism
Now i shall introduce you to another dictionary word:

Perversion

noun
  1. 1.
the alteration of something from its original course, meaning, or state to a distortion or corruption of what was first intended.
"a scandalous perversion of the law"

That wasn't our of order lol, thats what I said.

And George Lucas shouldn't be claimed because he's not really making a point with those scenes, those are standard for political themes because that's usually how fascism tends to rise anyway, and rebellions generally work by doing things the rebellion did.

So? Its a cool phrase from a popular movie that still describes reality to ominous degrees. Of course i will meme it.

Define it.

Id post the dictionary definition but I dont think youd accept that, so I'm gonna define it as speech that features and/or condones unjust treatment towards a group of indivuals on the bases of a trait that defines their lifestyle, identity, or living experience, and or speech that supports others with that endorse this unjust treatment.

It doesn't generally cover speech against someone on the basis of actions, behavior or stance, as those are things that are assumed, not lived. It also doesn't cover speech against any one indivdual, unless the attack is on the basis of one of those things.

So me saying lawyers are blood sucking parasites is not hate speech.

Me saying "[racial group] people are lying, untrustworthy thugs" usually is.

That being said there is room for nuance in the discussion, namely intent behind the statement and other things.

Legal Eagle the GOAT.

No, LE used to be entertaining back before 2016. But like many other people, lost his mind after it.

Now he's just a partisan hack. Case in point, Musk said Twitter would be neutral and then HE endorsed the Republicans in the midterms. I guess for some people it's completely alien to have a position in the company and not use that to affect your political agenda but it does happen.

What are your thoughts on ice cream truck drivers?
Those scammers need to fuck off. The pictures on the side of the truck DO NOT represent the quality of the product I pay for. Sonic head is supposed to get me 3 gumballs. 2 for the eyes and 1 for the nose. I buy it obviously, but suddenly we live in Soviet Russia and I am lucky if I get 1 gumball at all and the ice pop is just a mushy mess of colors in an arrangement that is allegedly Sonic.

And yet Congress wants to talk about inflation or gas prices. The TRAVESTY of it all is obscene.

Nah Legal Eagle is still fantastic. Sorry you fell off him.
My, i wonder what it is :pie_thinking:. Here are some hints:

Fascism, free speech, nazi, equality, far-right, white supremacist, diversity.
Either explain your point or don't. Its not my job to fumble in the dark for your meaning.

you're no fun :lollipop_sad_relieved:

Dictionary meanings of these terms are worthless when these terms get distorted and perverted to mean whatever. Its easy to pull the dictionary card to say its obvious, but it remains a fact these terms are used as justification outside those definitions anyway 🤷‍♂️. Apparently "majority" (which apparently also doesn't mean what its supposed to mean) groups can't be victim of hate-speech, did you know?

They are not worthless when the definition given is exactly what it means.

The fact you disagree with the dictionary definition is your own issue. Not mine.

I don't disagree with the dictionary definition, i'm saying it is not followed 🤷‍♂️. Not by the "content moderators" anyway who'd rather give their own arbitrary interpretations.
That is a different issue. I was asked for a definition and I gave it.

Hate speech is clearly defined. The moderation against it and its accuracy is a different discussion.

Nope, the moderation against it and its accuracy is 100% the core of the issue and discussion.
Pull whatever dictionary definitions you want, those "intelectual prostitutes" will just make up their own definitions in order to protect the narrative they want to protect.

That can mean any speech. Abusive and threatening are entirely subjective as is expressing prejudice.
It doesn't though. Any reasonable and sane human being can read that definition and know what it means. Its like that classic pornography line. "You know it when you see it". Hate speech may be hard to define for some people, but it is ALWAYS easy to spot. Leaving it there for the night though. I have to get some sleep. I'll check back in tomorrow night or Friday because of the holidays.

Despite the bickering and the pissing I wish all of you a happy Thanksgiving. I wish you all the best of health and I hope you don't murder your family in the process of the holiday. God knows I and others will be tempted.

And Twitter employees think Musk is an oppressive trolling right winger. Hey, at least he has fun about it.

Name one other company on Earth that has StayWoke tshirts, fanny packs and who knows what other politically inspired promo gear that's leftover in closets.

And to think these come from the employees and bosses in charge of one of the biggest social media sites on Earth. If they are going to be fueled internally by StayWoke messages, then people should be able to chat AntiWoke if they feel like it. Instead they get oppressed by mods and algorithms at the click of a button.

Twitter is a lot better now and I think it'll probably be even better in the future especially after the dust settles. Musk did overpay for it, but the upside is definitely there. Twitter does need to move fast for new features while being transparent and fair to all users. If that happens they could probably grow bigger than Meta especially after Zuckerberg decided to chase the Second Life and Playstation Home crowd.

Not a perfect comparison, but the only one I have to twitter post acquisition is neogaf after resetera. Twitter's new competitors are legit garbage (i.e. Mastodon, Gettr, Truth Social, Tribel, etc) and I don't think Twitter saw - or is seeing - the major dip that we saw on neogaf in the early days.

They are also running just fine with less than half of the previous workforce which shows how incompetent Parag and the rest of Twitter were. The engineers who stayed and new engineers being hired will bring in new features which twitter hasn't had in a long time. People certainly are hoping Twitter will crash and burn but I highly doubt it will. People outside of politics do not even care and will still visit twitter regardless of political affiliation for their news or trending topics.
