Watched it yesterday with my wife and my son who came specially home (doesn’t live here anymore)
It was his favourite game when he was in high school.
My wife played TLOU for the first time on the PS5 version (not her kind of game but she loved it anyway)
Verdict.

Well, it's an adaptation so the important story beats will be the same(so far), it's the stuff they fabricated just for the tv show that can make or break it IMO.

Of course they weren't, gluten IS bad. Just the degree of how bad changes depending on the individual.
Said fuck it and watched the first episode. Wasn't interested (I love the first TLOU, but that's it) however some reviews had me too curious.
The opening was good, great even. First 2003 portion was decent/good (and that's it, nothing more, we have seen this a million times before and better done, even in parodies like Shaun of the Dead which some shots are 1:1). Rest of the episode was kind of meh.. locations, cinematography, acting, all had a kind of live-action videogame commercial feel to me.
It's surely better than most, or probably all, game adaptations, but this so far got absolutely nothing on Walking Dead S1 or the actual game, like not even close imo.
I have to assume further episodes are going to be much better given the response the series got, because so far this really feels what it is: a live action videogame adaptation from the guys behind the Scary Movie series and The Last of Us: Part II.

I haven't watched it yet, going to this week. But I appreciate you actually sticking up for WD S1. A lot of people trash it now, but it was made by the guy who did Shawshank Redemption. It's still one of the best seasons of TV I've ever seen. Casting was crazy as well; found multiple unknowns that turned into huge stars. I don't think TLOU can top that for me, and I do have to assume some of the extra review padding is due to politics. I'm sure it's well made, but 99% is just getting nutty.

They were looking for someone capable of showing a cold-looking face, representing a little girl putting up a front as a noblewoman leader of an important House.
That's sufficient enough if you're going to show said little girl during a couple minutes throughout two seasons.
But a main character's worth of screen time with this? Sheesh...
This reminds me of Megan Boone's casting as a main character against the brilliant James Spader in the otherwise excellent Blacklist.

Druckman explains the casting choice in an NPR interview. The hope is that she shines on the violent portions, since her character has to have light humor, but also gets very dark later on.I also think Sarah's actor was better and I wish she'd been cast as Ellie instead.

The unsaid portion is that for some reason, studios like to just stick to the same actors. You see it all the time. Sony with Tom Holland and Chris Pratt, and Adam Sandler over and over. HBO with Pedro, and Jon Snow, and even the king in House of the Dragon was in The Outsider. They get into the studio system and get reused. I've never seen an explanation for why. You saw multiple other Game of Thrones actors in HBO shows in small parts like His Dark Materials. Happens over and over.

Only thing I found odd was how they go out of their way to not show that Joel is brutal by nature now. Beat the guy who stole from him? Nope, he was already dead. Kill the Fedra soldier to avoid getting caught? Nope, instead it's a PTSD reaction.

She is a little thing though at 5'3".This is the one time I agree with the internet - Florence Pugh needs to play Abby
Not only could she easily be made to look the part (minus the buffness), but she is a phenomenal actress.
You're not gonna find a super buff girl that can act to play Abby - so she wont be buff in the show.
Abby is estimated to be 5'8" and about 160-170lbs.
But who knows.

There's a scene showing her reaction about being bitten that is real af. Amazing acting.
In pretty much all reviews people are praising her performance. We've seen 1 of 9 episodes, that she was not a part of for the majority of it.
So dont jump to conclusions yet. Druckman has yet to miss regarding casting.
Every Uncharted and TLOU characters were perfectly casted. Including Joel, Tommy and Tess on the series.

But maybe by Pascal being cut of the next season, they would have the budget to afford her.
Being buff is essential for Abby's character tho. So she would have to hit the gym. Abby has to be buff (not like in the game, of course, but realistic buff)
I'm more worried about Bella. She is 19 and looks 14. Maybe she will look more like an adult 2 years from now? Probably. But Ellie should look older for the next season. And recasting wouldnt work.

Well I guess half the Internet is going to implode when they find out that no woman can look like Abby outside of female bodybuilders during a competition (i.e. for 2 days after bulking + dehydration).
Even peak performance Jessica Biel has arms half as big as Abby's.

That was pretty much 1:1 with the game. Except for the tentacles instead of spores thing, which I'm not exactly sure why they decided to go with. Maybe that will become clear. But I like it!

Spores would require them to wear masks in several areas like they do in the game. And they unfortunately hired an actor who hates masks so much he literally quit Mandalorian half way through shooting season 2 because he didnt want to be behind the mask all season. He probably had it written in his contract that he wont wear masks in TLOU so they likely had to change the virus from being airborne to something else because of Pedro lol.

No zombie outbreak truly makes sense if its bite only. They just skip the initial outbreak and move to later on in the apocalypse.
No modern military would lose to zombies. Literally just shut the door. Drive over them with some semis and tanks. Wouldn't even take any ammo really. Light some fires. You can beat all zombies by just having a ladder and going upstairs lol.

Looking back that was so obvious, can't believe I didn't pick up on it. I was mostly repulsed by the cake when I saw the son smear it all over granny's face.
I recently watched all the cutscenes of Part 1 on youtube and must say that I expected the show to differ much more from the game. Some scenes were almost 1:1. I hope they succeed in separating it a bit more from the game in future episodes.
