PlayStation VR2 |OT| I heard it has a single cable. Is this true?

Sitting here with the money for PSVR2 and really having a hard time pulling the $600 trigger. I love my Quest 2 but I barely used my PSVR1. I really want to play Horizon and check out the enhanced Galaxy’s Edge…but $600.
Have you played PCVR through your Quest 2? When I bought my Quest 2 and was playing native apps/games through the Quest store, it felt like a gimmick, then I built my new PC and ran Half Life Alyx, now I see what all the fuss is about and that got me excited for VR again. If you don't have a decent rig for PCVR but you have a PS5, playing PSVR2, you will notice is a big step up to the native Quest games and is worth it imo. There's not a whole lot now for full AAA high graphical VR experiences apart from RE8, Call of the Mountain etc. But they are coming and the PSVR2 is still very impressive right now over Quest 2. Only downside is the cable but a single cable is really not that big of a deal.

You either wait for a price drop and more games or you just buy it, you will buy it eventually anyway lol

Is it just me or does RE8 feature some text prompts that aren't in focus?

I don't think I have the headset adjusted incorrectly, but sometimes when I pick up notes or see text prompts I get double vision on the text.

Is this just a bug?

No, they're just too close to the viewer. Hold your finger directly infront of your nose (right between your eyes) and look past it to the distance a bit and you see the same kind of double vision. As you slowly move it away it'll slowly stop being double at around 1/2 foot away or so.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
And what will you play on the Quest 2 now? 600 but you play 3 AAA games like Horizon, RE Village and GT 7. Switchback soon.
I mean, games like The Light Brigade among others ppl hype as some of the best on PSVR2 are also on Quest and/or PC. There's no shortage of VR fun on any platform, you can be happy with just one. You can check the Quest thread for Quest/PCVR game updates rather than ask him for list wars...

For recent stuff he could go for Guardians Frontline, Presentiment of Death, Unification, Walkabout Mini Golf's new level, Ark and Ade, Population: One which went f2p, almost endless high quality VRChat worlds, test Breachers for Rainbow Six Siege type fun, Resident Evil 4, soon Yupitergrad 2, etc.

So got mine last night

Plastic is a little cheap feeling imo

The image isn't very focused but I honestly think that's on me my eyesight is terrible I can't even see 3D properly I can always see the double image slightly.

The tracking is awesome though so much better than the first one

I use on my psn us account . I download from psn JP account. The first pop up is to use phone for log in. But I do live in Japan 😢
Further experimentation resulted in getting all the way to the "Purchase Media" screen only to be told "Not available in your area" when trying to confirm purchase even with a vpn.

It's not so much a bug as poor design.
The text prompts in RE8 appear at a set distance from the player viewpoint. This works fine if there's open space ahead of you, but if the distance to the in-game wall or object in front of you is shorter than the distance to where the text gets rendered, it fucks up your depth perception and your brain can't interpret the text that is being rendered deeper than the background on which it is overlaid.

If you close one eye, you'll find you can read it just fine (as that negates the depth perception problem).

It's just crappy design. I was surprised that made it through QA.

OK been working for days and I'm too tired to log on.

Sorry I'm LTTP on the topic but the sweet spot is huge now. The games like RE look amazing. The whole thing is clear.

I really think some people received headsets with a different/outdated firmware, cause I cant see any difference since the patch released, yet A LOT of people talk about a night and day change.

That also explains why some people were describing their PSVR2 as a blurry mess.

Guess we will never know, Sony would never communicate on that ("sup dogs, so we sent some shitty outdated headsets at launch but we fixed it now is cool m8")

There's a lot of games to play on the Quest, but things have been dire lately for the platform, and there isn't a lot of excitement going on specially because of the dated hardware. I see tons of people buying it on impulse and then using it for a month or two and selling it after. Quest 2 success is a double edged sword as it makes vr more accessible but at the same time it ended up holding back pc AAA vr games.

Hush now or we’ll have wired controllers again next gen 🤫

I understand what you’re saying but for me it’s simple, 1 cable or 20, it’s still wired.
It’s not the reason I haven’t jumped in yet though, biggest downside for me is the games library, goes for all VR headsets, I just don’t think the software is where it needs to be yet for another hardware investment.

I'd say the single cable only adds minimal time for me and I am not effected at all by it yet on what I play (that is I don't notice its presence). And any time spent plugging in and wrapping up the cable would be a wash with needing to charge the headset constantly.

As a first headset - the software is actually the opposite of what you describe, I find it quite numerous. Just RE8, GT7, Horizon, Moss 1+2, and the upcoming Saints & Sinners 1 + 2 and RE4 definitely is enough to make me feel like I got my money's worth, probably just RE8 and GT7 alone would be able to do that (the games play so much better than the flat versions for me it's worth every cent). But add in those other games, and another dozen more of the VR community favs like Synth Riders, Walkabout Mini Golf, Rez Infiinite, Demeo, etc, and it gets hard to keep up!

For someone with multiple headset already, and access to PC mods of RE:Village etc, I guess PSVR2 is quite less the bang for the buck. But hopefully Sony doesn't neglect it and throws us a couple nice juicy AAA-like software news/updates every quarter or two. It is one of the strongest headsets in terms of CPU/GPU power behind it, so more well done ports of AAA flat games would be nice!

Not to harp on this topic, but PSVR3 will likely be wireless, but...i think a playing while charging should still be an option, ala detachable cable.

By wireless, i mean it will still be tethered to PS6 by wireless streaming and will not have a dedicated APU. Just a chipset to aid with streaming.

Yeah that’s basically where I’m at. I’d love to play GT7 though, I have it on PS5 and a VR version is very close to a system seller for me. But I’m thinking it could come to PC.

Yes but not nearly as big as doubling the gpu + included eye tracking. It would also extend massively the graphics you could show when connected to a PC. 4090 + eye tracking oh wow.

Also, the difference between ps4 base and pro was like 4x

PS4 to Pro was a little over 2x, not 4. And if you have a 4090, there will be much better headsets than a Quest 3. Valve's Deckard being the most promising as over 4 years later the Index is still the best all around HMD you can buy today. It'll likely be at least $1000 though if it has even half the stuff it's rumored to have (i.e MicroOLEDs, pancakes, eye tracking, 60Ghz WiGig lossless streaming, a Gen 2 Steamdeck SOC, new controllers). Only way its not is if they sell many of the costly components separately and modularly (see also the unused "frunk" on the front of the Index).

Dumb question - but how do you check if your PSVR2 is updated or not? I keep seeing everyone talking about improvements with the latest update, but i'm not even sure what version firmware i'm on.

There was a screen that popped up indicating to confirm the go ahead of updating. I don't remember if it showed any update successful message on screen after it updated though.

I think the PSVR2 controllers were also prompted to update.
