PlayStation VR2 |OT| I heard it has a single cable. Is this true?

Sony seriously needs to sell the Sense controllers on their own. The 3 to 4 hours of battery life is too limiting. It's very annoying. Lately all my gaming sessions come to an end because the battery on the controllers ran out. The only game I can sit down and play until I'm completely satisfied is Gran Turismo because I play it with the steering wheel.

Man, I'm so disappointed by the reviews and impressions of Switchback. I was confident it was going to be like Rush of Blood, only better. Its such a simple but fun premise, right? 🤔

Skipping 😔
I mean... Rush of Blood wasn't that good either if we're being honest. Had to force myself to finish it a few weeks ago so I could uninstall it once and for all lol
Looking at metacritic and opencritic, Switchback seems to be reviewing VERY similarly at the moment (MC: 71 vs 72 in favor of RoB & OC: 72 vs 73 in favor of Switchback).

Hello! I'll be getting my Horizon bundle tomorrow.
Quick question for you veterans:
As someone with very little VR experience is it too crazy to jump into GT7 right away? Or should I ease in with some other titles first?

I don't wanna get dizzy and puke on my lap 😄
Thank you!

I found GT7 pretty dizzying initial even in a slow car, but it's still cool, I just couldn't handle more than a single race at first, others don't have trouble, but the best advice is to do short sessions and don't force yourself through it.

Horizon with snap turning and low vignetting at first is pretty good way to ease in, but again shorter sessions, and then you can turn vignetting off, I still prefer Horizon with snap turning even now - just don't use that dumb marching in place to move, analog stick is way better. And enjoy the scenary/objects/looking around for stuff to find and play with, otherwise you'll just have climb after climb after climb.

I found RE8 a good gateway game too, going from snap turning, to regular movement w/ vignetting to no handicap options, everything off. Just pace yourself day by day, the nausea will go away, I had no problems after a week.

Games like Moss, Puzzling Pieces and a few others such as Demeo where you're not moving around so much in VR are pretty safe. Kayak was hard for me at first, along with Star Wars.

Headset comfort is tricky too. At first I had it way too tight and had marks over my nose and forehead, you should never get marks on your nose, the weight shouldn't be there. Eventually I got better at wearing it, and also wear a thin sweatband to help prevent it leaving any marks on my forehead. They're still there but minimal now, and the comfort itself was never an issue.

Just be prepared for it to be really fun and awesome, but there is a learning curve, and it's not as incredibly clear as you'd expect, but when you're in game you quickly can forget. Hell I forget I'm in my house anymore when it's on, it's just so immersive and good for the price IMO. Do get RE8 though! It's such a great experience, I highly recommend it.

Edit: And keep in mind it's not a race - I find it a lot more fun to take your time in the games and have medium / shorter sessions, and be ok with that, than to expect to spend 6 hours and finishing a game in one sitting. With 30-45 minute sessions, it'll take me a good 40 tries to get through RE8, but it's always enticing and exciting to head back in and see just a little more before the horror and creepiness of it all gets to me, feels so great facing my fears a little bit each time haha.

Anybody seen this post on Reddit?

I tried it and there is definitely an improvement to the contrast and the mura is somewhat less noticeable too.

It doesn't "get rid" of the mura, but it definitely did help the HMD look better.

Are these settings just for the VR or does it affect regular PS5 games too if you adjust this?

I have to buy a charging station for the controllers. I'm surprised this has been an issue for me. When I first heard the battery life I wasn't concerned but turns out I've been playing in longer sessions and more often than I was expecting lol. Good problem to have though.

Saw some guy on YouTube who bought these little battery packs he plugged into the controller (while playing) ans said it's like 4x battery life.

I gotta find that again and post it here.

Also... someone needs to release knuckle grips already. These are hard to live without.

I want some aftermarket batteries asap. It's just too short. I don't mind plugging in controllers when they're empty, but having to plug them in preemptively because I used up 2 hours is really annoying.

I agree with this. The biggest flaw this system has is this

I can't find that video... I've watched too many PSVR2 vids this month. Damn needle in a haystack.

That would work but as a mechanic I would not do that in a million years. You are going to bang those on something eventually and the they are going to act as levers on that usb plug.

I ended up getting the white version of those things, got two of them (one for each controller, and the white version matches perfectly and has little battery level indicator lights too). They make it easier for me than what I was doing before with getting USB C cables every session and it looks less messy now).

I don't use them while I'm playing (but could if needed, I tested and they don't get in the way at all), but they're a lot easier to pop on the controllers than having cables to constantly plug in and out. They can charge the controllers quite a few times before needing to be charged themselves (I have shorter sessions, so I can't always charge every session, but when they are low enough to charge, one charge for me uses around ~20% of the pack). So in theory I should get about 10 sessions in before needing to charge up the packs if every other session needs a charge.

Now that is a great use for them. That way you can at least put the controllers somewhere convenient when charging. Like right on the coffee table while you take a half hour break.

Because if there is one good thing about a small battery, it's that it charges fast!

Initial impressions with a race in GT7 and Horizon up to the first Watcher is that I’m impressed with the picture quality, but the cable is annoying as hell coming from the Quest 2.

Same. If I had never gone wireless it wouldn't have bothered me at all though.

I’d start with Moss I & 2 or something easy.

But GT7 isn’t too bad. Just stop playing the moment you start getting signs of sickness

Horizon is OK too, but ease into it before adjusting locomotion settings to the analog sticks.

After a few weeks of gradual play it gets a lot easier

I actually got no sickness from gt7, played like 8 races in a row the first time and was fine. Pavlov also hasn't been an issue.

I have a quest 2 but I hadnt used it in over a year and I only used it for some beat saber so I was expecting to suffer.

Question for peeps that have played both NMS and Switchback, would you say NMS is even blurrier than Switchback? I’m keen to get NMS but not if it’s as blurry as the comments about it suggest.

Looking at metacritic and opencritic, Switchback seems to be reviewing VERY similarly at the moment (MC: 71 vs 72 in favor of RoB & OC: 72 vs 73 in favor of Switchback).
Really? That was the first PSVR game that really impressed me at least. I absolutely loved it, but was a bit put off by the low resolution and imprecise controls. I thought it was very innovative and had some cool ideas.

I guess the expectations are just higher of Switchback, and some of the criticism makes it sound unacceptable to me for a PSVR2 title.

I don't know - I grew up playing House of the Dead and Time Crisis in arcades so I think I may have different expectations when it comes to on-rails shooters because the enemies in RoB were just too bullet-spongey, and coupled with the imprecise/wonky Move controllers it just wasn't the best experience for me.

That said, it was a decent game to put on for people who were new to VR. Always got a few good scares, especially with that intro to the game.

I had the exact opposite initial impression 😅 was so disappointed with the image quality and never got annoyed by the cable. Now I quite dig the IQ and the cable isn't something I even remember while playing.
Perhaps the organization of the room where I use the PSVR2 helps a lot: when I play standing, I put the cable over the TV panel and I turn my back to the TV, so the cable remains "aerial" all the time and never on my way. It doesn't even touch me and there is cable enough to move without worrying about damaging something. While playing seated, the cable goes through the sofa gap and, again, it never touches me while playing.

Wish I could play it, would love to see it ported to the PSVR2. There are quite a good number of titles I would love to play, skipped PSVR1 entirely because I honestly thought the tech wasn't good enough, and that includes the PS4 too.

Star Wars was designed as room scale on the Quest so it absolutely doesn’t work sitting, but it’s great on PS5 as long as you play standing.
I find pretty much all shooting games work better standing, like RE8 I tried once or twice sitting, but I don't know how you can correctly get the various weapons and map out unless you need to change options too. Either way, they work so well standing, I'd rather just do that, then you're free to turn around and it's all way more accurate than just analog alone.

I guess having a large 20' x 20' space and being able to run all over and jump and duck and dodge could be fun, but standing with minimal seems like a big enough change from sitting to me for now.

What are your thoughts on PSVR Without Parole? I do like that they review virtually every new VR game as none of the big outlets do so it's great to see what the game plays like. However always seems like they're very forgiving on games and just happy that there is something new on the platform to play.

I love them! I don't think they are forgiving of games at all. He explains why they score a game the way they do. Just don't run to the end to see the score. Listen to the whole review. They are very fair and balanced imo.

Maybe it was a bit more so for PSVR 1. The PSVR2 reviews so far feel a bit more balanced. Still think it's great that they pretty much review every game.

What's the best way to fix vr face?

I hate leaving VR and it looks like I just came out of a coma.

Especially the red band across my forehead and around my eyes.

From my new buddy Minsc:

On my side I bought RE8 (50% discount!), GT7, Moss & reinstalled No man's sky.
Both of my controllers are charging and just waiting to get off work 🙂

Are you over tightening? My wife over tightens like mad, I worry she will cut off her circulation. Are you pulling the back of the headset low on your head so it cups the lower part of your skull?

Following VR subreddits, I have noticed that some people posting pics do not do enough preperation with putting the headset on and getting it perfect. When I got the PSVR I spent a good amount of time trying differing positions because I have never had a headset that I have been happy with comfort wise. My Quest 2 is modded to hell, all in the name of getting it as comfortable as possible.

I also have a velcro strap that I use to take some weight on the top of my head as that is where I prefer the weight to be.

Something like this

Not sure if im overly happy with it though.

Yeah, there's a small line for me between over tightening which is easy to do because it doesn't feel bad or anything, just leaves the red lines, and under tightening, which makes the headset bounce around more. These days I get it setup fairly painlessly, it's basically routine now, just a little here and there on the knob to tighten sometimes. The headband does help me a bit, but it's not perfect. Still, I prefer to have it, to minimize the lines. I'm sure in the future I'll try some comfort/padding mod, then I'll totally be fine, but for now I'm happy enough with the fit.
