The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom |OT|

I've fell right off the game. Hardly touched it the last few days. I keep wishing I was playing BOTW instead. Tears of the Kingdom does a lot of things well but something about it just doesn't sit right with me. I'll keep pushing through the game for as long as I can but at least I can always go back to Breath of the Wild.

Do you feel like the dude in this review?

Hmmm.. really? 'Something' is supposed to happen immediatelly after or maybe I recall wrong.

Just be ready, just in case.. you read it here first! 😅
I only encounter the new enemy after defeating one in a cave. But that was first time, I said fuck it i'm tired of running! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

you're not the only one. botw, for me, is the realization of a unique vision. totk builds on that vision, &, in the process, also somewhat obscures it. i enjoyed replaying botw easily as much or more than i've been enjoying totk so far...

Wind Temple done and tbh I think I'm gonna put a stop to doing the other 2 just yet and instead concentrate on the Side Quests and getting all the Shrines I can first, I wanna 100% this over June before FF16 is out and this plus SF6 will do fine until then

Man I never thought I'd be this unenthusiastic about a new Destiny season starting but hey thats the Zelda effect....

So first on the Agenda, where is this Master Sword and what happened to the Korok Forest?

I will dunk on Nintendo all the time for all the bullshit they pull as a corporation but goddamn it they're great at making games.

Zelda is one of those franchise's that just never fucking misses, even the most divisive games within the community are levels above most AAA garbage we see nowadays.

Playing TOTK is giving me the same sensation that I had as a kid playing my first proper games in Twilight Princess on my Wii and Wind Waker on the sister's GameCube, every hour that goes by something new is introduced which floors me and just when I think they can't keep that chain of ingenuity going, another amazing mechanic comes out of nowhere.

I feel sorry for people who will miss out playing this, game's like TOTK remind me why I fell in love with this medium in the first place, it is quite literally a generation defining masterpiece.

What is even going on.

I don't know, this is undeniably cool but I just have no interest in it in a Zelda game. The more I play TotK the more I kind of wish it wasn't a Zelda game especially with how the story is playing out so far. Link being this great swordsman and warrior just seems kind of pointless when he can do all these crazy inventions and things. It just doesn't mesh with the character he is supposed to be.

Thanks! I'll go that way then because im getting my ass kicked lol
I was getting my ass kicked. Running into blue and black mobs of all kinds. Then I backtracked and went to the east and running through a bunch of reds.

Also Watch Peco videos and see how much of a badass Link is.

This game is great without the building mechanic. I basically only use it when I’m in the sky to build gliders.

Ok so I’m advancing slowly in this game with the little bursts of time I have but

Tulum and the ascension to the tornado, are you kidding me!!!! So good. Some of the best gaming in years and it’s just the beginning, oh boy 😳

How are you guys playing this?

Controller or joy-con? I started with joy-cons and early impressions is that controls feels misplaced as hell.

Can't I make Link run by pushing the left analogue stick?

you can go into the Switch settings and change button mapping.

Thanks for the heads up. I added running into the left analogue stick, but I always need to keep pressing it. It's better but still feels clunky.

No ideia if you can make it constant run on one press?

This is some ancient control customization, geez.

Are you talking about sprint? It is tied to stamina. Games for a while now have had dedicated sprint buttons….

Best game ever. 10/10
but.
Unfortunately, zelda got affected from souls games.
I've been dodging, flurry rushing, fully mechanic-shitting for 10 minutes on lynel and barely even get it hp's to half.
cause my weapon's hit rating's are low.
bokoblins got too much buffed.
the game is too hard for beginning stage,
it was not like this.
botw was not like this.

I'm saving rupees for the blast resistant gear in Goron City. I need to do some googlin' and find some good mining caves. I didn't realize I was so poor until it came time to actually buy some gear. Been running around barbarian style for the past 20+ hours.

BotW, for me at least, was just way too easy so seeing them try to address it is nice, but I wish it was in more ways than just making enemies tankier. Not sure exactly how that should be.. but it's something.

But I'd say make sure you're fusing relatively powerful items to weapons, it makes a huge difference and after a short while in the game most enemies die fairly quickly (that I've encountered) once I got the hang of which to fuse to what.

It's a shame that two great games such as these are ruined by shitty controls and camera use.
But it's the price to pay to play with a gamepad, I guess.

Got my switch yesterday with the game and I can’t stop playing. Coming from the PS5 the controls take some time to get used to but damn is the game awesome. Gameplay wise this blows everything out of the water I played the last couple of years.

Really happy I jumped over myself and got the switch

I know. You're thinking, how tf can they top this. It's the same with Mario Odyssey, and I'm sure they will.
New world, new time, better hardware. Other than that do what they did here.

The bigger problem I see is how is something like Starfield going to be good enough after this?

Starfield is a different world, look, and feel. I doubt many games will try to do the physics of TotK, it's been 6 years since BOTW and no ones is even close. But, if you could build a death-star in it using materials you find around the world and then take that death-star and destroy planets, that could be cool.

Finished the water area. And I think just getting to the dungeon and all the craziness that is that whole area is amazing. The temple was super easy as was the boss fight. But I loved it. Really just a ton of fun with that area.
I just love the fact that getting to the villages near the dungeons is like an organic exploratory puzzle and didn’t realize until I decided to do the wind temple that that’s like easily another hour or so of exploration and puzzle solving and the actual temples are more traditional dungeons.

Still early on, but still getting some great exploration experiences here.

So while running along, minding my own business, I rescued some fashionista lady from a bokoblin. As thanks, she marked my map with the rough location of three different pieces of clothing. While nearing one of them (a large stone outcropping), I helped out another adventurer who also mentioned looking for treasure in the area. So cool, two different ways of hinting to the player to look around for a cave opening. I'm obtuse; it's possible I would have missed it if not for the hints.

So I bomb the opening and head in. I was expecting a short area with an enemy or two, but instead found a sprawling cavern with multiple paths blocked by vines or rock slides. It's not as massive as the ones in Twilight Princess, but still enough to built up anticipation for the end. And the dead ends held minor treasure too, making it seem like a mini-dungeon rather than just delaying the inevitable. Anyway, the path to the end was at least somewhat hidden, perhaps enough to miss it if I wasn't paying attention.

But once I got there, there was a small tunnel being guarded by a rock spewing like-like. That was tricky, since the boulders kept coming quickly and seemingly little room to evade and watch him. It reminded me of the moblin in the Lost Woods guarding the entrance to the Forest Temple in OoT in a way. But while that was an important set piece as part of the main quest, this was just an optional cave. Also, in good Zelda fashion, there were a few different strategies to knock it out. You can use recall on the boulder to stun the like like, but you have to be quick because the next boulder gets spat out quickly and will destroy your recalled one.

But I got past it, then past the next electric like-like (honestly a bit underwhelming after the rock one), and got my reward. Rubber armor. That I will probably never wear. But that's ok, because this was fun on its own

There's nothing special about any of that. It's not mind-blowing, it's not narratively exciting, it's not a crazy spectacle. But it was a well done 100% optional side quest that I think wasn't even an official sidequest. A lucky chance encounter, some solid spelunking, a well designed cave, and a real, tangible reward at the end. These are the moments that make me love this series. I'm glad TotK isn't just the crafting and nothing else; to be honest I'm not into that. But it seems they did go out of their way and make the exploration even better than BOTW. BOTW was about setting out across a giant landscape and I still love it for that. TOTK is giving me a reason to dive a little deeper.

Possibly dumb question…I got to a temple and am inside and have activated the warp gate it’s showing I can travel away…can I actually leave and go exploring around the world again before I do the temple and beat the boss or would I have to redo the insane (but fun) platforming again to get back in?

I am dumber for having listened to that. Zelda had the glider before Fortnite, and he doesn;'t even know the main characters name.

Elite Series 2. Back pedals make the game so, so much better.

Bombs are the key to beating them. They completely decimate them before they can get near you. The fight after them I found pretty easy.

I feel opposite, I enjoying TotK waaaaaaaay more than I ever did with BotW and I fucking loved BotW. The exploration is so much fun in TotK because of all the tools you have.

I dont understand this type of mind set, Link always had tools to solve puzzles and use it for combat now its much more expanded. These tools made exploring and fighting enemies even more fun, whats wrong with that?

People actually like clicking the sticks to sprint in games?? Resident Evil drives me crazy with that nonsense. I can't stand L3/R3.

That said, TotK is a bit unintuitive with controls compared to Nintendo's usual output.

Yes, just like shrines you can get to door to activate and get warp point.

This game (and Elden Ring was like this ) is so addictive and moreish, I’m currently at the gym on a 5k jog and all I’m thinking about is what should I do next, then when I do it I end up going “oh I’ll just do this quick thing or cash in my blessings” and spend another hour doing something else

Goty and best game on switch by far

That one is pretty easy tbh. That thing... dislikes smoke. You need a few hammer-type weapons for it's actual weak points but that's it; and since it drops a pretty important item you'll need a lot of, I go and kill it every blood moon.

That being said, by Hylia, do I suck at combat in this game. I don't think I managed to beat more than one Lynel in BotW, if at all, and this game looks like it'll be the same. Hinox are easy as long as you can put yourself in a place where they can't reach you - top of a tree, cliff, hill, whatever is there works - then it's just Recall fiesta. Talus I can deal with, with enough hammers to break. Battle Talus I haven't tried. But Lynels? Gleeoks? No way I'll ever be able to win in a fair fight.
My only chance is to make some good contraption that kills them without (much of) my input, but that still a long way off; best thing I've done so far, with what was given to me (mountains south-est of duelling peaks, near a Black Hinox) was a little autonomous drone with a small tracked chassis, a targetting thingie and two beam emitters (there was also a canon available but I felt the extra energy drain wasn't worth it). I carried it for a while, slaughtering enemy camps, until I came upon a shrine, where I had to abandon it. :(
(since I have autohand and put it in my favourites I could build a new one whenever anyway, although the cost in zonaite is still pretty stiff for me atm)

Game feels better with a Pro controller, but goddamn, graphic wise the game doesn't look that good.

Resolution is so damn bad that I'm having trouble finding shrines after the first one lol...

Mario Odyssey still the king.
