The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom |OT|

This game (and Elden Ring was like this ) is so addictive and moreish, I’m currently at the gym on a 5k jog and all I’m thinking about is what should I do next, then when I do it I end up going “oh I’ll just do this quick thing or cash in my blessings” and spend another hour doing something else

Goty and best game on switch by far

Was laying in bed the other night and a random idea popped into my head on how to beat a shrine I gave up on like 4 days ago.

I'm being serious, playing this on a 65" screen and draw distance is not that sharp. I'm having trouble spoting shrines.
I don't believe you lol.

You can't see the green blue swirls of light that surround the shrines?

When I was playing it earlier I had travelled quite a bit and saw a shrine and realised it was one I had already been in because I could see the door had been opened lol. And I'm playing in docked mode.

I can see the green ones from the ones I visited, but that's it. From the current view level I am I can't spot anything, maybe I'll need to go higher. Mind that I'm not by any means a Zelda veteran.

All of them have green blue light surrounding them but when you activate a shrine you'll see a door open. Some shrines will be hidden (which is meant to be part of the fun of discovering them) but generally you can spot them from far away. If you're on the ground or near it then you're not going to see many either. For example, I only spotted some after recalling a piece of falling rock. The game does say that you should try using things like skyview towers/falling rocks to get up high enough to survey the map. I don't know if you can see shrines from any of the sky islands as I haven't bothered going back to any since landing on the ground.

In BOTW of course you couldn't fly into the sky. It was enough to climb up some mountains and glide around. It could be that shrines are at higher elevations now. I use Pro HUD so don't know what elevation i'm at and obviously can't compare to BOTW.

Sorry if my comments sounded harsh but I thought you were having a go at the games graphics/performance. It's not the greatest I know but Nintendo has done a good job of working with it. Shrines, Skyview towers, and stables are some of the easiest things to spot because they have lights/smoke that can be seen from long distances.

Yea Odessey is very overrated, it’s a great game for sure but there are several 3D Mario games better than it ( personally 3D World is my favorite followed by both Galaxy games)
Id put Galaxy first, then world, followed by 64, but I can definitely respect that list.

I want 3D World 2, but with a tone/presentation closer to 64. It's the best 3D game but has the most preschool vibe of the whole series. Not asking for M rated mature Mario but a 3D game that hits that "Completely ridiculous and kiddie with racoon suit yet industrial" Mario Bros. 3 tone...man I wish 3D World was that

Yea but it’s Nintendo, it’s the same as when they do the sports games and never lean into it more, for example the Mario golf games having 4 Normal looking courses and maybe 1 Mushroom kingdom one, they just always play it safe

Best game ever. 10/10
but.
Unfortunately, zelda got affected from souls games.
I've been dodging, flurry rushing, fully mechanic-shitting for 10 minutes on lynel and barely even get it hp's to half.
cause my weapon's hit rating's are low.
bokoblins got too much buffed.
the game is too hard for beginning stage,
it was not like this.
botw was not like this.
Yeah. Botw was waaay too easy.
Now they push you to fight creatively

Well im gonna ask how do you find the violin the Great Fairies ask for,no idea
Assuming you’ve started the quest to assemble the band and go fetch the flute guy, if not you should talk to this lil’ dude at the stable I think;
LZJmqKp.jpg

, the flute guy can be found sitting in a tree at Highland Stable. Then you just have to do a quest for him and he’ll join the rest of the band and you’ll be able to take them to play for the fairy.

That's the main story beaten. I've probably played around a hundred hours in 9 days, didn't sleep much last week.

I'll have to let it simmer a bit before I post some long winded drivel about my final opinion of the game but I'll just say I don't think any other open world action adventure game compares to this and I'd be very surprised if any game released in the near future could even approach the level of game design mastery demonstrated in TotK. Legitimately awe inspiring.

So yeah it's a pretty good game.

That's in Eldin, right? Haven't been there yet but people at various stables (or the band's drummer) have been pointing at it insistently.

My god is the encounter
Inside the Deku Tree
a pain in the ass, I hate those Gloom Hands so much, they respawn so damned quick and are really fast

Also, Master Sword obtained!
I ran from them like a little bitch the first 4 times I encountered them, by the 5th time I had so much health I could just tank it :D

Yea I can do that now I have better gear but my god do enemies just hit like tanks sometimes

Anyway, just got all the Dragon Tears and the game is starting to tell a decent little story! I mean the Memories in BotW were fine but it was all open to interpretation at times, its much improved here, also I called a twist:

Zelda being the Light Dragon, as soon as I saw the memory about eating a Tear causes you to become an everlasting Dragon, and the Light Dragon has the Master Sword, I knew!

Though its kinda weird the Quest line ends there and you don't tell Impa about it but whatever its inferred I think

Close to 200 hours and nowheres close to seeing everything the verticalities in this game so insane yous be findings secrets for years

How did they do all this with barely a bug or load screen? Nintendo wizard developers with Zonai technology confirmed

I can see the blood, sweat and tears on the part of the dev team on every inch of this game. They deserve every bit of praise (and a raise and a bonus).

For gloom hands: bomb the hands or use anything with an AOE, it stops them in their tracks (granted it takes mats so a speed up potion or meal is still wise for a contingency plan) .

For the guy after: use a long weapon that allows flurry attacks and just dodge back on the obvious charge attacks, you can do it without even getting hit period while still getting right in their face but out of the gloom.

The Rito area's temple boss was easy but it was something I sorely missed from BotW: a traditional Zelda dizzying boss fight against a giant monster. It was less a white-knuckle test of skill (like against a Lynel or something) and more a roller-coaster ride of awesome spectacle. I hope they're all this good.

While the dungeon itself was somewhat modest, the lead-up to it, boss, and atmosphere were all really good. This game knows how to evoke a mood.

Yeah, I way overstocked for it; 4 fairies, maxed out on meals had 8 hearty’s, defence, attack, got the soft rito bed and in the end never actually broke through the gold hearts and stamina from the bed. But god damn did it look spectacular the whole way through, reminded me of old school God of War (in a good way).

Worked out though, since I needed the some of the mats and meals on optional bosses in the open world (or underworld) later on.

Yeah "that guy" is really no problem, he's actually stupidly easy compared to the hands themselves.

botw was only threatening for the first couple hours...then nothing can touch you...while i understand people not liking it, i pretty much prefer totk where enemies are still a threat several hours into the game

I was just about to post here how I wasn't a big fan of Breath of the Wild and not because it's a bad game but because I found it to be too vague but even worse, I got frustrated with every weapon or item I have breaking.

I've only played a couple hours of it though. I completed three of the shrines and I'm supposed to go to the 4th and I don't know how to even get to it even with a guide. Like, they're supposed to be some fish in a little lake that I'm supposed to get and I don't see them there at all.

For what it's worth, I grew up with a Magnavox Odyssey 2 and played on most consoles ever since so I'm used to video games being vague especially in the past. In fact, I like that it doesn't hold your hand but I just thought it was a bit too vague. Maybe it's just my age finally.

But worse than the vagueness was the breakable weapons. I hate that pretty much anything but this one it's especially bad. Everything feels like micromanagement and it's one reason I could not get into another Nintendo game, Animal Crossing.

But I agree part of this could be just me getting too old and also going too long without playing games. I really should jump back into it especially after what you just wrote. If it's true that after the first couple of hours or so things get a lot better, then I should try to put up with it.

This game isn’t guided, you look up the quest marker you either get the quest giver or a general area. You have to read the clues and make out the mystery yourself to continue.

Breakable weapons become moot when you can get some of the most durable weapons off of just cutting down trees and fusing.

But really slow down dude. It doesn’t all have to be done in a day, or a week, or a month…hell if something’s really vexing you, play something else or do something else...you’ll probably figure it out a minute after you do.

I've got to be a bit over 40 hours in now and I have not even touched the south side of the map. Haven't been to Gerudo yet, about to do that today. Game is fucking crack.

Been doing a lot of exploring in the Depths too, that is very rewarding. There is a lot to see there and some very valuable and useful items. I love that it's basically pitch black until you find a root. Forces you to tackle exploration in different ways and can be pretty scary If you don't prepare yourself. It's almost a whole different game down there to be honest.

Incredible, this game is extremely vast and dense.

Game feels better with a Pro controller, but goddamn, graphic wise the game doesn't look that good.

Resolution is so damn bad that I'm having trouble finding shrines after the first one lol...

Mario Odyssey still the king.
They light up like Christmas trees at night. Sit at camp fire set to night and just launch up the towers and pin them! :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Same here. I have the entire eastern side and southern part of the map to explore. I have a lot more than 40 hours though lol.

Finally completed my first 'Temple', but it was a total accident. Been avoiding temples (and the main story) for my entire playthrough in favor of exploration, little did I know that a seemingly random trek into storm clouds would eventually lead to one..

This game has so many systems interacting with each other that it is insane that it runs at all honestly. And on the Switch of all consoles. Nintendo nailed it with this. I doubt they can top this.
And as good as they are I’m basically still playing like BoTW.

Lots of stamina. Rushing all the towers and getting side tracked.

Combat and the weapons are more fun in this though. Every once in a while I’ll find a few devices to make a random machine and use it. But then just keep moving onto my next waypoint.

Can someone explain to me like I'm five how to increase one's battery? I read some comments on Reddit but what they're saying makes no sense to me. I think I may have missed something.

You need to gather 100 crystalized energy and then process it at the station. you can find one of the station near lookout landing. I've found crystalized energy from treasure chest, but the main way is buy it using zonaite. I've found the seller robot on the great sky island or on the mining facility in the depth

Depths are largely disappointing. Some decent armor, but otherwise all you really get is Zonaite which goes towards the part of the game I don't even use much.

Hello guys I beat the factory and now I'm riding a robot called mineru

The game says I can attach weapons to it but I've pressed every button I can think of and it's not happening. When I'm mounted the ultra hand abilities dont activate and when I dismount "attach" doesn't come up as an option when moving objects near to it....anyone get it working?

EDIT: NVM I think I got it u hold X

I love exploring it tho, it's basically opposite Hyrule. Like the
coliseums, Yiga clan stuff, and there are also boss fights

To add on to the other poster, there is a quest from Purah's intern(forget her name) that will bring you to a crystalized charge shop and another hand ability. There is another quest on the great plateau that will bring you to the same location.
The shop restocks every day and you can get crystal energy from field bosses in the underground

Is there a way to remap running? I’m still struggling with the controls a bit. Especially jumping while running. I already switched both controls in the settings but it still feels weird.
