Matt Booty: "We are in a unique position to spend Sony out of business"

If you are talking about the Game Pass comment, that does nothing to validating cloud gaming. That was actually one of the problems I found personally with CMA, is that they extrapolated and assumed Gane Pass owners = cloud users despite that not being the case.
I’m talking about the fact they directly refer to their nearest cloud competitors which validates CMA’s concerns that the acquisition would give Microsoft the infrastructure, the content, and the ability to have such a head start in cloud systems that their nearest competitors wouldn’t realistically be able to compete in the industry. Microsoft’s lead by having all of those things would be insurmountable.

And here’s Booty saying almost exactly that.

This is absolutely a smoking gun that should largely prevent Microsoft from buying any major publishers in the gaming space.

This should give every regulator pause as it relates to Microsoft and their clear intention to block new competitors from participating in the marketplace as well as push out existing competitors.

Absolutely a smoking gun

Too late 😅

Microsoft lost a lot of sympathy. The consequences will be hard.

Oh some of the reactions in here... lol.

I wonder what some 2013 Sony internal emails were saying. "Guys Microsoft is too vulnerable right now... we better pull back and give them a break."
Microsoft has more money on hand than Sony is worth… that’s the difference
Phil sending out the influencers as we speak.
yep…

This is just the email that was talked about in the Gamer's Lawsuit. The Judge here, FTC, EU,CMA & everyone else have had this email for a while. This isn't new information for them, just the full information for the public.

So now that e-mail was real and we believe it? Oh but wait MS said the other e-mail was a 2019 e-mail. Ah but why do we worry about 2020 in this vs 2019 in the other, it is not as if logic really mattered in this staunch defense on this deal?

It is the throwing of arguments at the wall to hope they stick that is almost the most annoying bit…

Matt Booty can’t even get his own studios right

Yeah, Microsoft is good at burning cash, that’s no guarantee you can put your competitors out of business

You have to actually earn it first. Booty is such a worthless contributor to the industry much like Phil Harrison. Incredible that he still has a job after so much failure
MS always had this kind of mindset where they try to solve every problem just throwing money
It's been 20+ years the best they got was a tie with ps3.

Matt Booty is a worthless utter moron. He is the reason their studios are in such a shambles production wise. He should never been hired in the first place. What a joke and disgrace this is turning out to be with each passing day. The more we find out about what has been said and been going on behind closed doors makes me cringe. This may very well have killed the deal itself. MS should fire Phil and Booty after this debacle and clean house and try to salvage what they can out of the shambles that is Xbox.

This should really make your stomach turn. Sony been out here creating IP to bring customers to their platform.

Xbox who haven't brought anything to the table in a decade, want to use the financial backing of Microsoft to put PlayStation out of business.

If that doesn't bother you, you're not a gamer. Don't @ me about it either. Your explanations wont actually mean shit to us.

The same email again... from 2019 (neither Bethesda nor Zenimax were an option) Anyone who stops to read it can see that it is only describing the business opportunity in the face of the competition... Goggle was lagging behind, Amazon showed no intention of entering the market and it highlights how Sony is the great competition...

That the CMA and the IP judge herself already knew about it and did not take it into account should say everything.

Maybe the FTC will come to court wearing PS t-shirts this week. Last week it was console in hand and badgering MS to agree to deals with Sony. How much is Jim paying these clowns? The way they are working for Sony instead of consumers is baffling .

I think you're assuming she didn't take it into account in the people's case against microsoft means that she won't take it into account in the FTC's case against Microsoft.

I think you're jumping to conclusions

Surrrrrrreeeee you're not gonna pull COD of PS.
Here’s a thought experiment for you: with several ”top line” games now said to be “years off” what if ms releases an Xbox series x pro or maybe even a successor in around 2 years time. They’d still keep to their “promise” of a ps5 version of cod but steal a March on the next gen lined up with all their new IPs etc. and the “premium” version of cod for this new hardware.

This is your average corporate email, Sony was talking shit about its competitors and being public about kicking them out until the PS3 came in. To think about it, MS could have said fuck it and bought square in 2000-2001 if they ignored the markup they did at the last minute, it makes you think how they didn't go after similar sized companies immediately after, the MS top management, especially from Windows, was jealous of Xbox existence.

You clearly don't understand how this works.

There is nothing against saying you're going to push the competition out by outperforming them.

Pushing them out by buying them out? That's when regulators get involved.

I mean, I'm sure you understand the difference and you're being purposefully obtuse...

Yeah. I just feel like if we were looking at all of Sony’s internal emails we’d all be surprised at what we saw, too. So we’re really just putting Msoft under the microscope because we’re being shown all these emails written multiple years ago.
You’re right that all corporations are scum and shouldn’t be regarded as our friends. But this is under the microscope because Microsoft is trying to make good on their plans of buying up the industry and regulators are looking into it, as they should.

As others have pointed out, the critical difference is Microsoft has more cash on hand than Sony’s entire company is worth. Or, put another way, Sony is worth 0.12T, Microsoft is worth $2.6T (or was the last report $2.8T?).

This email isn’t just scummy, it proves they’re leveraging that massive difference to stifle competition.
