Did sony put re8 on Playstation plus? That is the difference. You don't see netflix pay to block content it is not Streaming. Only Sony blocks content from a whole market.
While it is different, it's within Sony's rights to think that if they are paying for a marketing exclusive that it should include not putting the game on Gamepass.

It also makes perfect sense. They know that if a game came day 1 to Gamepass that would essentially act as a promotion of it's own, w/o any marketing having to occur.

However I will say:

Exclusive marketing contracts offer jack shit to the consumer, games being on a cheap subscription service at least do.

First we had proof that sony does it, now we also finally have a proof that xbox does it. Maybe some people will at least realize that neither of these companies are their friend and they only look for a way to exploit their customers.

Perhaps the customers should also stand together and protect their own interests instead of pointless "console warring"? Naive, i know.

Microsoft execs are hypocrites. Companies only ever look after their own interests (this goes for "peoples beloved steam", epic, microsoft and everyone else). C-suite leadership is the same everywhere, idk how anyone could ignorantly think any company on this planet is any different. Every company is the part of the problem, no exceptions anywhere.

25 pages?

That means this one will hit 30 pages right guys?

Marvel Studios Smile GIF by Disney+
It will fizzle like a wet fart as did the Forza always online, exclusive deals ones, etc.

Here was my take in the other thread.

Streaming services pay for exclusive content all the time. Which in turns keeps it off competitors. Difference here, Sony (and MS, yes they do it too) are not keeping select games off the stores (physical or digital) that they partner with, just sub services.
Some of those posts, LMAO

Lay everything bare and governments all around the globe might start to ponder if this industry should be kept as a "self-regulating" one.

Well Well Well Well... look at that... ALL those Xbox Fanboys that were crying about Sony "Keeping games off gamepass" even though they were told time and time again its part of a marketing deal or timed exclusivity but wouldnt listen. Turns out MS is doing the same thing. I cant believe MS is keeping games off of PS Plus and other sub services... incredible... so anti consumer..its a shame.

I don’t think anyone have a shit about it being done in an exclusive deal, that just makes sense. A marketing deal though, preventing a game from going into certain services for a long period after release is a completely different story but warriors gotta do what they do.

And maybe MS actually does also have these restrictions in contracts for games they have marketing rights to, and if so, that’s just as shitty as Sony doing it. But this isn’t the same scenario as the thread linked here.

Such a blanketed tweet. Would be curious to know what games are we talking about. So many AA games on GP I've yet to see anything AAA that wasn't also on PS. Is it anything on the level of FFXVI?

  • Microsoft and SIE both made competing bids for Valheim and Immortality to have those games on their subscription services. Microsoft won both bids.
  • Sony typically does not require subscription exclusivity for games included on PS Plus. Microsoft often requires day one Game Pass titles to not be made available on competing subscription services.

ends up Microsoft is actually worse about this than Sony… who would have thought?

Shocking, who would have thought?

Edit: I hope that one of the unexpected side effects of the ABK-deal will be the complete shutdown of all these "holier than thou" narratives getting spun by some fanatics and even actual representatives.

It's also sad that there's evidently such a lack of journalistic integrity and/or attempts to investigate stuff like this on behalf of gaming media in general.

Didn't know that FFXVI is on PS Plus and is being prevented from joining Game Pass.

Did anymore expect otherwise? It makes perfect sense for them to want to do that.
The problem is Phil Spencer was crying in court the other day about Sony locking exclusives to Playstation whiles he also locking exclusives to Gamepass. Phil Spencer and his team has been the only company in the gaming industry complaining about exclusives and how its bad for gaming. Everyone should play together. Sony and Nintendo or any other gaming company had never complained about exclusives.

just from the first page
Sony wants to leverage their position as market leader to pay off publishers so that Sony doesn't have to compete with Gamepass. Sounds pretty anti-competitive to me...

Anti competitive and a bit whiny to be fair.
This is kinda the next level of that kind of bullshit. It's not paying to give your customers exclusive access, but paying so you can dictate how your competitors customers can access the content. It would be like say Hulu paying to prevent a show from being available as an off-line download on Netflix.
No it's not. Marketing agreements are for marketing. This falls in line with paid exclusivity and is a bullshit tactic no matter who is doing it.

I took it to mean when a game is on GamePass, MS blocks it from being on other services. Which is why with lots of games you get them day one in GamePass but they can still release on PS5/Switch day one. But that’s not a big deal and is just common sense. Imagine if Netflix paid a ton for Seinfeld and then NBC or whoever owns it went to Hulu and made another deal.

Theyre the worst of the worst. Xbox under Phil Spencer rather lie non-stop to consumers and push false narratives on their competition while they themselves are doing exactly the same stuff. Instead of spending time, efforts and energy into making "Games" the best they can be, they rather lie everyday. Its like they rather sell lies than sell games.

I sincerely blame them for making the console war from fun and games and competition about who makes better games into what ever the fuck it is today. Lies, misinformation warfare.
