Silent Hill: Downpour TGS Trailer with... the Korn song?

Downpour of my bitter tears. Horrendous music. Which is even more clear since I just got back from Shadows of the Damned. The game isn't doing it for me either.

Akira Yamaoka was the true star of Silent Hill.

yeah, seems to be looking a lot better than that JP preview from a few weeks ago that everyone was freaking out over

of course I'm guessing those same people are just going to dismiss this video now because of the Korn song but oh well :(

Amazon just told me this game is coming out on March 31 2012 in the US. They originally had it out in October 2011.

The release date for the video game listed below has been changed by the publisher, and we want to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

"Silent Hill: Downpour"
Release date: March 31 2012
Estimated arrival date: April 04 2012

Does the 360 allow for custom soundtracks?
I might just upload the Shadows of the Damned soundtrack onto the 360 and play it over the actual soundtrack. Just listen to this amazing work:

It's great but don't despair on Daniel Licht yet just because of a Korn song.

Didn't even know that it was meant to come next month. We haven't seen many screenshots or promo material.

Desperately need to see the vid in hi-res, which I'm sure will happen sometime soon. The song is predictably crap and has no place in the franchise, but otherwise there's a lot of new intriguing footage there. Looks like the protagonist is apprehended and locked in a cell in Silent Hill (Toluca?) over the course of the game, which is interesting.

Oh and folks, don't expect Downpour to come out this year. Ain't gonna happen.

Definitely true that Daniel Licht deserves some cautious hope. However considering the team figured this Korn song was a good idea I have little to no confidence in the direction of the audio director.

I might just upload the Shadows of the Damned soundtrack onto the 360 and play it over the actual soundtrack. Just listen to this amazing work:

Broken Bones, Broken Promises
Smile for a Broken Dawn
Akira Yamaoka & Mary Elizabeth McGlynn
Theme of Shadows of the Damned

Smile for a Broken Dawn is just insanely good. The soundtrack they released doesn't have hardly any of the great tracks from the game. I might have to name and order the soundtrack rip I have and release it.

Also, the that Korn song just doesn't fit at all. The trailer is like a fan AMV.

Who knows who thought to have it. Could have been one guy, the whole team, Konami... don't know, don't care. It won't play during actual gameplay. I hated the Cradle of Forest song in SH4, in fact I think it's even worse than this song, but that didn't have any negative ramifications on the game itself.

this is spot on.

We have heard samples of Licht's score. It sounds good. And again we don't know who thought to have the Korn song. It wasn't necessarily the audio director(s). The song will not have any impact on how Licht's score turns out because composers are pretty independent.

It's worth noticing that Licht had nothing to do with the korn decision, I asked him on his site and he said nope. The decision seems to be purely made by konami, not Vatra either, it's sad and a terrible decision made by big ties that has nothing to do with the actual development of the game. But then again, gaming is like a religion to jonathan davis!

I think the snippets I've heard of Licht's score have been mostly excellent. There was a little piece that played during a Downpour article in some digital gaming magazine and it was striking. Really eerie yet beautiful. I wonder if I could find that again.

Licht's music sounds good so far. I'm going to watch this trailer with the volume off before I watch it with the volume on...

be right back.

So on the trailer itself : I liked it, was much better on mute, but the video shown in there looks pretty promising, a bit too much shock horror shown in the trailer for my liking but still looks like it could be one of the best horror games to come out for years.

No, I am not watching this. Not that I have anything against the game, but it's just the same principle I won't watch fan videos of other Silent Hill games that have Korn as soundtrack.

edit: no sound but dat interlacing

There was an article about this with one of the developers for this game.

It was Konamis choice and apparently the Korn song only plays during the game intro and is not actually in the game itself.

here it is : http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/10/tomm-hulett-on-silent-hill-collection-downpour-book-of-memorie/

Hulett was sure to point out that longtime Silent Hill contributor Mary Elizabeth McGlynn will also create music for the game. The reasoning behind Korn's inclusion depended on "a lot of factors," according to Hulett. "We had our licensing department put feelers out" for groups that would be interested in contributing to the game, he noted. Konami apparently had a few choices, and Korn "made the most sense" to the publisher. "If people don't like it, they can hit start and skip it," he said, adding that the song isn't "thrown down your throat" and that Konami isn't trying to turn Silent Hill fans into Korn fans.

I mentioned that fans seem to be upset about the song, with some even going so far as to sign a petition for its removal. "I'm a big Silent Hill fan. I can pretty much guess how [fans] are going to react to everything we do," said Hulett, "I wasn't wrong on this one, in how they'd react, but I think they should hopefully calm down a little bit." To further assuage fears, he noted that the song isn't "an integral part of the gameplay" and won't be forced on players. "You know, Murphy won't be listening to Korn, or Korn won't be playing over a cutscene. It's nothing like that."

watching with sound off...

dare i say it, but the faces almost look Silent Hill quality...

watching with sound on...

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT I AM LISTENING TO?

'I wanna figure it out, the lyrics are so literal, we are wearing stupid masks'

isn't this game from konami? or is this a new meme to exchange Capcom's and Konami's names because I've seen this a lot lately
new?!?

there's nothing new about it.

Meh, the video itself plays like a really bland fan-made video because of the song. It just doesn't feel like it fits to me. Maybe if the audio were removed and only the rest was left...
Either way, footage looks alright, and I'm optimistic about the game.

Why are you trying to make me not like this game Konami?
Pretty much what I said. I'm looking forward for this game actually. That trailer wasn't good imo. Not to mention this god awful song :x.

Lyrics, as best I could hear.

I s_______ ___________ the places that I have found.
All the decreases (deep creases?) in my mind that are torn up somehow.
I want to keep the pace, I want to figure it out
I've got to do it this way, if I don't ever get __________

-chorus-
Have you ever really never been back in a chain (something change?) in a torment (torrent?) of pain
As you realize you're never going to _________ there (win here?)
Have you ever really been __________ (trying?) to hide, crying/dying/burning inside
You can't escape this, it's always been there

Consume the hatred in my mind, there is no letting go
It eats me up there's no way out I know I've got to make it so
I want to keep the pace, I want to figure it out
I've got to do it this way, if I don't ever want _____________

-chorus-

CLOSE MY EYES I GO TO SLEEP HE'S ALWAYS THERE I START TO WEEP
X infinity

-chorus-

...yeah. I mean, I know silent hill isn't known for having great, insightful lyrics, but this is so pitiful, haha.
