They should make it free to play nahmean.
Why do they have so many USB ports in the first place? Will they be used to power the charging cradle/stand for the Umotes?
If so, then they should keep two USB 2.0 for charging, nix one of them, and make the third USB 3.0.
How do costs differ between 2.0 and 3.0, including any applicable licensing fees?

Guessing the 4 USB ports are in case of charging two uPads, one ethernet adapter, and a harddrive.
sucks, would be something awesome to have at launch for the wii-u. Free to play models actually make a lot of money so I don't see why not. I think they end up doing it eventually if it isn't instantly a big success. If they want it to go anywhere, it should be.
But it won't, and it'll likely fail like FF14.
that would be a pretty huge omission, doubt they fuck up like that. But this is nintendo :|That would be my guess as well, but man. Nintendo NEEDS to slap an Ethernet port on this thing...

Why do people seem so keen on an ethernet port? I Havnt pugged a device into a physical network in about 5 years. I'm happy for them to drop the Ethernet port if it means we get an additional 4GB of system RAM.That would be my guess as well, but man. Nintendo NEEDS to slap an Ethernet port on this thing...
uhhh because a physical connection is more often than not better than a wireless one?Why do people seem so keen on an ethernet port? I Havnt pugged a device into a physical network in about 5 years. I'm happy for them to drop the Ethernet port if it means we get an additional 4GB of system RAM.

I have never noticed a difference between wired and wireless connection. Honestly its probably insignificant, unless your house doesn't handle wireless signals well or something.uhhh because a physical connection is more often than not better than a wireless one?

Finally, Saito hinted that that a beta test will kick off on Valentines Day (February 14) or White Day (March 14). Specifically, he said that it will take place around the “time period of chocolate.”

No console is going to support anything higher than 1080p next gen.
So why would Nintendo need more than a gig in only a game console?
Smh.Why are you jumping to conclusions?
Where did I say anything about consoles supporting higher than 1080p?
All I said was a gig was good enough for supporting 1920-1200.
So what does that mean? It means its pretty good for supporting 1080p.

I think we need to take in account more than just the resolution when talking about how much RAM is needed.

First time we're actually getting a vivid description of Wii U visuals

There is hardly any concrete news. Just (reliable?) rumors and speculation/educated guessing. It's why the OP is never updated.
Edit: From time to time there's talk about what Nintendo needs to do in order to be successful although those conversations usually dissolve when occasional troll (luckyman) troll pops his head in here to cause animosity.
I usually just lurk on this thread because it's a good read.
I thought you were banned Luckyman?

OMG you guys, Miyamoto totally just said that Pikmin 3 is the most beautiful thing ever!
Miyamoto was like: HORY SHITU!
And I was like: DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMN!
4GB of RAM and an Ethernet port are not really on the same level in terms of manufacturing cost.
I guess someone had to biteWow lol um no Ethernet is not going to make up for the cost of extra RAM
Man it sucks waiting to hear some real news. I just wanna see some in-game footage or anything from any one of the console manufacturers.
For health reasons I can understand but I haven't noticed any interference per-se. I'm sure they'll sell an adapter and if it saves them 20c, they'll leave it out.I'd like to keep the RF pollution in my house to a minimum, thx
Man, that will be a painful wait if it's that long. Not until GDC, I'm afraid. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo would wait until E3.
My take on the:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JElywbkSbY
Now considering Power7 has been referred to as a PowerPC, the IBMWatson tweet, the Engadget article, the mention of using technology introduced with Power7; the fact that the Power7 (besides the 360's CPU) is the first IBM processor called "multicore"; I'm confident that the WiiU's custom chip is built from the same architecture that the Power7 is based on, and will use the same elements that make the Power7 a Power7 with a few differences that will give it its own nomenclature.
Configuration:
Will be a SoC designed by Nintendo,
where GPU, CPU, DSP and Mem1 will be on the same silicon or die.
GPU = 1000Mhz, They type is really anyone's guess. GCN? It might borrow concepts that have started the GCN line.
RAM = 2000Mhz,
CPU = 3Ghz, 4 core OOE 64-bit PowerPC architecture v2.07
DSP = 32bit, sound processor?
Nintendo will go conservative with memory, but place it in the right places,
and use exotic kinds where it can.
Mem1 4 GPU/DSP 128MB (256 if they want to get jiggy) of 1t-sram(Q), or FCRAM
Mem2 4 System 1GB (g)ddr3 shared, good enough for resolutions up to 1920-1200
Mem3 4 CPU 16MB IBM eDRAM to keep things moving along.
16GB internal flash to support the initial "online" launch games and shop channels.
included. Therefore, no SD card included.
1. pack in game, WiiSportsUlympics: that will introduce, online play, Making Mii cameras using Tablet camera, and of course various ways to use the controller to the public and developers.
1. tablet controller
1. revised design of the Wiimote/Nunchuck
All for a cool $349
Retail launch games to get the Nintendo faithful to throw their money at Nintendo will include: MarioBrosWiiU & F-Zero (either by Retro or Monster Games). Second controller will also include a pack-in-game because it will be priced upwards of $ 80 or more.
Year 1: By Xmas WiiU Relax will be introduced, Pikmin3 & a Monolith's title that we wont get till year 4.
Year 2: Several big Nintendo titles through the year to battle a possible PS4 launch.
Year 3: Drought. Though by this time third party presence will be strong.
Y'all welcome to tear it all apart...
MDX, the main issue I have with your specs is that they all pretty much fly in the face of everything we've heard.
Wii U
Technical Specs:
- 3-core POWER7-based 3.5Ghz
- 640-800 ALUs (don't know which architecture) 600-800Mhz
- 1.5GB GDDR5, 32MB eMemory
Features:
- Pretty much known
- "Full-fledged" online component
- Some Kinect-type functionality in the controller
Launch Details:
- Jul. 2012 Japan (Rest of the world by Sep. 2012)
- E3 2011 announcement
- $349 ($329 minimum)
NE said:First, the two said that more jobs will be added to the game once the game launches. Dragon Quest X will initially feature six already-announced jobs. New jobs could include ones that wouldn’t be expected in the series.
Will DQX will be launching with the Wii-U?
If so, that NintendoEverything article essentially confirms DLC ready at launch. Of course, anything short of that would be frowned upon.. but hopefully this is an indication of having things ready at system launch, unlike the 3DS.
the launch date for WiiU is not known.
But I expect if the Wii version launches mid year 2012,
we can expect the WiiU version to launch end of 2012 with the console.
Im just curious if this game will be a system seller for either console.
Its a very interesting, possibly risky strategy, that is being approached.
I also wonder if this game gives us any indication of the hardware in the WiiU.
For Wii owners and WiiU owners to play in the same game world, does there need to
be some type of compatible hardware for cross-platform interaction?
I guess they'll just use different quality assets, like a ten-fold increase in character polygons on the Wii U, but use the same underlying game (AI, engine, etc).
Man, that will be a painful wait if it's that long.
Of course, so why would you need more than a gig for 1080p gaming?
Considering the CPU gets an additional 16MB eDRAM, and the GPU 128MB of 1t-sram?
Really? All of it? Lets not forget, Im not speculating on what the dev kits contain, Im speculating what Nintendo will possibly launch with. Rumors might be correct about the early dev kits and the target specs Nintendo wanted to go for, but all that could have changed based on E3 feedback and technological developments.
But here is what Caramello speculated:
Its not that much different.
Price is the same.
Caramello clocked the CPU higher,
I clocked the GPU higher, but then again, we dont know anything about the GPU.
About the same amount of total memory, with differences how much of it will
be allocated as embedded.
Yes, I gave the CPU the extra core, but thats because
I simply dont see how Nintendo can sell this system as being more
powerful than current gen when
-the CPU "appears" the same as the the 360,
-when smaller devices are coming out with quadcores,
-the fact that Power7 starts being multi-core at quadcore.
And if you want to go by rumors, we have one stating triple and one stating quad.
There are no commercial GPUs that are clocked at 1GHz stock. None. It's completely impossible. I'd make 700MHz the absolute limit, and even that's really pushing it.
Indeed. The WiiU will NOT use GCN technology.
Okay, bye again.
Indeed.
What a fucking stupid thread.
