Nintendo is bringing the Wii U to CES and I'll be getting more hands-on with the tablet-console hybrid to build on my impressions from E3 2011. Nintendo has historically skipped over CES, but it's great to hear the company will have a presence there in 2012.

Nintendo of America, working with the 2012 International CES management, will offer demos of the upcoming Wii U console to members of the media who did not see the system at the 2011 E3 Expo. However, Nintendo will not have a booth at CES, nor does it plan to include any games, experiences or information beyond what was available at the 2011 E3 Expo. Production and development efforts remain on track for the Wii U launch, which will take place between the start of the 2012 E3 Expo in June, and the end of 2012."

Those were technical showcases showing what the hardware can do. They had one showing the graphic quality (the bird demo) and a few showing what the controller was capable of.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the Mii demos were real games in development, especially New Super Mario Bros. Mii. One of Nintendo's most popular recent titles, updated for the new console? It's practically a given.

I'd personally appreciate a mix of both tech demos and concept demos which show off interesting gameplay mechanics. The demo from E3 made by the WarioWare/Rhythm Tengoku guys seemed pretty interesting.

Seems so. But if they're bested technically at this show by Xbox NEXT by a significant margin couldn't this "Re-unveiling" backfire on them?

If it is behind closed doors that'd make a lot more sense for them right now.

Well its either CES or a Nintendo event...I mean if the console really is coming out this summer/before the holidays, they really have to start showing off the hardware and games in a more substantial way. E3 would be too late for an official unveiling, but that's my two cents.
