lol why does everybody keep saying only watch the first two? are the 2 after that really that bad?

somebody make an analogy so that I can understand the differences in quality here
Alien is like the best steak you've ever had. Aliens is like the best hamburger you've ever had. Alien 3 and Resurrection are like shit sandwiches.

I saw a Weyland-Yutani logo in there.
Weyland... yes... Yutani... not merged yet according to fan lore.

Also, you'll notice at the end of the trailer that if they are indeed on LV426, the lava explosions coming down may point to the sign of the environment changing in which we see in 'Alien' in which the environment changes due to volcanic eruptions.

Lastly, there is a shot from "Aliens" that is a split second cut on the credits of the ship that Newt's family finds.

This is definitely going to be a hell of a ride.

3 is very enjoyable if you approach it with lowered expectations and keep in mind that the studio meddled with it to hell and back. 4 is just a cartoony mess that shouldn't exist in the main continuity (actually, I prefer to think of it as some apocryphus, non canon film).

You know how Terminator 1 and 2 are great, and Terminator 3 and 4 are total shit?

Prometheus. He took the fire of the gods and was punished for that. Pandora's box was send to his brother and was opened... Nothing good was in it, except hope... hehehe :)

Who are the gods? What's the fire? And what will be the punishment... Let us find out in June 2012, oooh yeaahh! :)

something just seems... off.

Just for reference:

Space_Jockey__first_cast__head_2.jpg

There are enough differences to make me believe they maybe aren't the same... :/

The space jockey in alien was something done on such a low budget and so incredibly fast, It would have been a shame to use the original one on this budget. They are the same, also in alien they comment on how this is fossilized. So It would look allot rougher later in time.

Trailer shows:

Nazca-like lines
Easter Island-like Head

Title Prometheus

Sounds like it will have a lot of ancient-astronauts symbols.

In the first seconds of the trailer there is a distress call and an apology... a warning.
What if the signal in Alien is actually from the Prometheus crew. o_O

They're all worth watching if you like sci-fi and movies, but 1 and 2 are really great pieces of film, 3 is a dull imitation with some sparks, and 4 is just a hokey cash-in.

Heres the Ridley Scott timeline:

70s-80s: Awesome
90s: Mostly waste
2000-2005: Awesome
2006-2010: "eh"

Scott has several great films that are pretty underappreciated, like Duellists or Legend

I really like Duellists as well. Not so much Legend. I agree with your timeline, although the second half of the 80s sucked and we can't call 2000-2005 awesome if that's the word you're using for Alien/Blade Runner. How about 'pretty cool'?

demon

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
To be fair, directors of old would have sold their cornshoots to spiky demons for the abilities of movement we have these days, both in production (steadicam, low weight cinema cams, advanced cranes) and post. I agree that it's a nice change of pace, but any idea that motion camera work is somehow "lesser" is stupid.

Never said it's lesser, but it's often overused and there are too many scenes where the camera is panning or swinging around or something when I feel like it would be a much more effective and engrossing shot if it were just still. I swear there are some movies where the camera NEVER stops moving, whether it's car chase or a dialogue scene. It's just sometimes unnecessary, distracting, and quite frankly visually less interesting.

Ironically, from what I can gather, they actually try and pull that space ship from LV426 or where ever they are and something happens which causes it to crash back down to the planet. The ultimate terror would be their communication to their main ship broken, them stuck on the planet and god knows what coming out of that ship from what they had discovered thus far.

Cannot believe there are people here that haven't seen Alien!

Go watch it.

Aliens is more of an action movie, less intense, still good, but has a different vibe.

Bullshit on that one. From the studio's perspective, perhaps, but even then I'd assume that if a cash-in was the target, they wouldn't have gotten Jeunet of all people to direct it.

It's so bizarre to me that R even matters. The last time I can remember not being able to go to an R rated movie was Gladiator in 2000 when I was 11 - couldn't find anyone to go with me. I've always had an older sister or parents to go with.

Also, how many kids under 17 would even be interested in Prometheus?

The problem is that we're talking about Fox. Tom Rothman, specifically.

Some details:

Space Jockey(?) standing in the chair room. You can tell by his size compared to the chair that he's not human. Also, notice the writing/symbols at the bottom.

Close up of the space jockey helmet/head/whatever.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this GIANT UFO! That thing is huge.

Alien 3 - the directors cut - IS a good movie. Everyone who liked the subtle, paranoid athmospehre of the first movie should like the third as well.

So I was reading about Prometheus mythology on wikipedia and ...

In Greek mythology, Prometheus (Greek Προμηθεύς, "forethought")[1] is a Titan, the son of Iapetus and Themis, and brother to Atlas, Epimetheus and Menoetius. He was a champion of mankind, known for his wily intelligence, who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals.[2] Zeus then punished him for his crime by having him bound to a rock while a great eagle ate his liver every day only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day.

This sounds eerily familiar to that leaked script that was supposedly debunked. A few words jump out at me here. Lets play pretend for fun ok?

So Prometheus is the movie title, also the name of the ship in the film .. we know that already. But lets pretend its also a lose easter egg thats been hinting at the plot the entire time? So "Prometheus" isn't a person in the movie, its the crew acting as the role of Prometheus in Greek mythology. Humans were created long ago by the Space Jockeys and we are their children.. they are by definition our gods. The Space Jockeys uncover humanity's wily intelligence, in that we have ventured into space and found them. The crew (Prometheus) steals their fire (bio tech), and the Space Jockey's (Zeus) unleash their Xenomorph (Bird) to punish them.

From here the Prometheus script does what it pleases, and some turn of events allows the wily humans to turn the xenomorph against Space Jockeys and barely escape. We see the Space Jockey ship in the Prometheus trailer, and we see something crash. Prometheus and Alien are tied together via the Space Jockey ship, and loose ties to xenomorph introduced late in the film. Somehow a Space Jockey gets impregnated by a face hugger and after coming to, decides to unleash its wrath on Earth. The movie is taking place at LV426 at this point. The humans are on the planet, the Space Jocket flee's to the ship, takes off.. gets nearly in orbit when the chest burster scene happens. The ship comes crashing back towards to LV426. The humans have survived, they escaped the SJ and its xenomorph pets.

Lastly there are some hints that the chest burster from the Space Jockey is the queen who later lays eggs on the crashed ship for the crew in Alien and colonists in Aliens later find. Her size and intelligence (to use an elevator for example) is explained by her mixed DNA with a Space Jockey. The movie ends with a panned camera angle of the crashed ship, even further out to LV426 and lastly harrowing .. pronounced and familiar beeping a warning beacon earlier activated by one of the humans on the ship. End

That of course leads right into the Nostromo picking up the warning beacon some 50 years later at the beginning on Alien.

Thats my guess.

something is wrong in your story

Zeus is the son of Kronos a titan, so humans are parents of space jokey xD

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.
I may go pick up the Blu Ray Anthology after work. I dunno..GAF tends to overhype crap. I better not be dissapointed! I want to geek out over this trailer too

You can't get any better than the first two movies... I wish I could relive seeing them for the first time again.

I told you on a wednesday and I'll tell you on a thursday. Go watch Alien and Aliens.. and you'll see how just about every single video game or movie has tried to mimic them in every way possible since. Everything started with these 2 movies, and nothing has come close since.

Nothing until todays trailer that is.

I think Alien is a better piece of filmmaking overall, but I did want to say... I've seen Aliens probably 20+ times over the years, and even still the last 30 minutes of that film makes me so tense that I could break the arms off of my chair from gripping it so hard. The tension of Ripley going in after Newt and everything that follows is just spectacular, and I think that whole sequence stands toe to toe with any of the most tense scenes from the first film.

Hasn't Ridley Scott specifically said there will be no xenomorphs in this movie? Why do people keep mentioning facehuggers and shit if he's already said they won't be in the movie?

I don't think the large humanoid standing in the space jockey room is the space jockey... I think he/it possibly created the space jockey.

I could also buy that he was/is a human being transformed into the space jockey by some crazy metamorphosis.

yeah... that thing seems like a totally different craft than either the human craft and the jockey craft. Hmmmm...

Is there an exterior shot of the Jockey craft from Alien?

I don't necessarily believe the guy.

So the Space Jockey is a giant human? I knew that we'd receive incredibly lame answers with this movie. Sometimes its better to let things remain mysterious, Ridley Scott. Maybe someday you'll learn.

If you think about it it totally makes sense. The warning message that the Nostromo crew mistook for an SOS from the space jockeys ship in the first aliens movie? Of course it would be in an unrecognizable alien language that the Nastromos computers couldn't decipher until the end of the movie.

Trailer looks fantastic. Great thing to wake up to. As for..

...So no, it's not like Sunshine. I don't really like the look of that movie, like you implied it looks cheap and small.

You're dreaming ma'jett. Sunshine looks FANTASTIC! And the reason Solo rightfully drew that comparison is because Boyle was actively trying to channel Alien. Only the Icarus in Sunshine was made with scientific practicality in mind.

cool im sold
now i just hope they have the blu ray anthology available some where

How is it not? Fox threw away Whedon's radical 'war on earth' first script and pursued another rehash of the Alien formula. They even
went to great lengths to bring back Sigourney even though she thought the concept sucked
just to make sure it wasn't in the least way different or fresh. The only director they could bribe to come anywhere near it was Jeunet - everyone else turned it down. Even he did until they offered him millions. Alien Resurrection only exists to grab more of dat Alien cash.

Maybe I'm missing something here.

There's a fair indication in Alien that W-Y knew what was up when they subbed in Ash as science officer, and that the Nostromo crew was basically being intentionally walked into danger by W-Y.
